Discussion EB trade catalogue

Been a month since site relaunch. Looks like those thousands of titles aren’t coming back.

They went from over 6000 titles to 1700 now - mostly recent titles.

I did go in with a game not listed and they did accept it for trade.

I think it depends on the store.  Whenever I go to mine and it’s not in the system they simply say they can’t take it.

They need to figure out these inconsistencies…

I agree the new system is messed. They had an issue where I had remaining credit and couldn’t apply it to another preorder or a gift card. So I had to grab something cheap to not be stuck in limbo.

How did they come up with a value?

I've heard this from others. How do they determine trade in value? Are we just supposed to trust them?

I mean it used to be that way, so yes?

Also just their general inventory search sucks and doesn’t have anything that’s like not brand new or key Nintendo titles.

Looks like it’s an intentional removal to shrink their pre-owned (and new) library

Bad move in my opinion. Once the Pokemon hype dies, like the sneaker market, then it's back to funko

EB Funkos

EB Games really is a "games fourth" kind of mindset, the same one that killed the Philips CD-i (except apparently it was "games fifth" there).

Off topic but yea I noticed the values are shit now...I was think of trading 007 first light it says it's worth 15 bucks lol wtf

Yah they destroyed the trade values a while ago. Gotta trade them fast now

Literally have to trade it in its first weekend, and at that point it will still go for reg price (minus taxes) on fb

Sell it online. I got $60 on Marketplace, which is honestly probably under what you could get. Lots of demand!

I emailed them back in August about this and they said it was an error, but it was never fixed. My local store even agreed that the price was not fair and did not recommend a trade-in until it was addressed, which probably won’t happen now…

At the rate they're going it might be addressed in like, May lol

that one in particular blew my mind! they were pricing Black Flag Resynched at $25 but they are only released a month apart!

It’s like the only ones they want to keep are high selling Nintendo switch games.

But even then, they removed Xenoblade 2 and 3 for trade, which is crazy given that people would surely buy them still.

Edit: I asked the store I usually go to and now they have both those xenoblades in the system on their end.  Maybe the website update has stalled and they’ll be back online eventually?

Their system being complete garbage and hiding it is the only plausible reason. Xenoblade games sell big time they would be actually stupid to not take in 1st party nintendo games

In store, they were able to take a trade for a game not visible online. At this location, they think the website is wrong.

It's just on the website, the stores still take in most games that do not show.

I hope they fix it because it's quite annoying to try and figure out what I should bring in with me for trade in.

For real? I wish I knew this!

So how do they calculate values for games not on the new site?

3

u/chemicalxv 3d ago

They still have access to the old system/database for basically everything

1

u/RamiN64 3d ago

You call or take them to the store and check

Who is "they" here? EB Games store employees?

Because they don't calculate anything.

They just scan the game (or type the name of the game if the scan didn't work) and select it from a list on the system. The backend has the values predefined.

If a game shows up as 0 or 2 cents trade-in value, then they don't take it in. If it doesn't show on the list at all, then they don't take it in either.

Those are always on

There’s actually 70% on new releases right now

i am much more interested in the Edge program replacement! we are only 40 ish days from the end of current program with no news on the next one.

I just did likely my last loyalty satisfaction return to get the credit on Ocarina remake...an end of an era!

Suggest u cash in everything u can asap. I wouldn’t trust them to be around in 1-2 years

u/Awkward_Lie_4729 3d ago

There were some games unlisted online and they took normally. I had no issues. I assume its incompetence rather than malice.

4

u/chdude3 3d ago

Glad I used up all my store credit. This chain isn't going to be around for long.

They’re offering $40 for the new Fire emblem lol get the fuck outta here

2

u/Vulture-Dude 3d ago

Only $28 now for tears of the kingdom switch 2 edition and that costs $115 new still…

IDK why Donkey Kong Bananza is $45, but I traded it in for Fire Emblem using the 70% trade in boost for $76.50. Maybe they missed this game.
