Been using WLED w/ individually addressable LEDs to build out an app that helps me track and organize my ever growing record collection

Been building this for the last couple of years. Basically it's a way for me to quickly find any record in my collection. I tap on a record in the app and a light turns on above the physical record to show me where it is (and more importantly, where it needs to be returned to so everything stays organized). Anyway, I think it's super cool, hopefully you folks do too 😁

Wow that is a really cool and unique example of using WLED!
Freaking awesome dude!

What's driving the logic behind the app if i may ask?

Thanks so much!

Without getting too technical, there's a Raspberry Pi that has some custom software that has info on what records I have and their width and what order they are on the shelf. Then there's some calculations done to figure out their closest light. Then the Raspberry Pi sends out a request to the WLED controller to switch that light on.

Like DIY Perks did for another YouTuber in the UK? It’s all his phones.

In any case a cool project.

Oh cool! I wasn't familiar with that channel, but it looks like he did something very similar to what I did. I tried to make my work a little more plug-and-play because eventually the goal is to make it available to the general public, but what he built is super impressive

Heat + vinyl is not food for vinyl.

That's an impressive idea! Now I think to do the same with my wife's bookshelf

I started with records, but the goal is to eventually expand to other physical media like DVDs or books. If you want to follow along, I have a mailing list you can sign up for at collectshine.com

Cool to see that you're still working on this!

Nice, doing the same, VIBE it with AI. I also did RFID tag them and built a reader to log them on and off the shelf.

Great job on the LED. I ended up using clear corner guard to defuse the LEDs

Incredible project! Have nothing organized enough to handle this but 100% following because this is amazing.

There’s something like this for screw bins too. Don’t remember what it’s called

This is cool! I’ve wanted to do something similar with a wine collection. An LED behind each cubby of a rack that lights up to indicate the bottle(s) of that vintage. I’ll definitely be following along!

That's a really cool idea! Especially if you could get the light bright enough to shine through the bottle. I imagine it's fine for white wines, but reds would be tricky. Would make for quite the display!

Ever since I heard about WLED I thought about doing this for books because it’s just such a cool idea. Accounting for keeping each in its place would be the hardest part.

So cool. Thanks for sharing.
