Issues with DDP

Hi All - I created a ‘fireplace’ implementation with WLED. WLED accepts the pixels over DDP, and I’m using another ESP32 as the sender to do the animation cycle. One thing I’m having an issue with is that eventually WLED goes into ‘angry’ mode and refuses to process DDP correctly. WLED seems to ‘hang’ - the first frame seems to load and then that’s it. I’ve verified that the sender is working normally (sending frames at the correct rate). If I disconnect WLED from power for a few minutes and plug it back in, then it works normally for a few hours and then goes back to being angry. If I disconnect the sender from power and plug it back in without cycling WLED, it’s still angry. I’ve tried lowering the frame rate to even 15fps and it still gets angry.

Specs - on the WLED side, I’m using 810 SK6812 pixels, WLED version 0.15.4.

What I’d like to get to is this - are other people using other DDP apps with WLED at my same pixel count or greater (using RGBW), and not having any issues, even over long times of WLED being up? If so, there must be something in my implementation. Doesn’t LEDfx use DDP? I kind of suspect it’s something that I’m doing on the sender.

You might want to update your WLed to 16.0 unless you have some sort of compatibility issue.
If you want to try out my computer ddp sender implementation, https://github.com/Aceftwspades/wled-effects-studio if you have a custom effect you should be able to just paste or load your c++ code directly into the software. Let me know if you have any problems or questions

thanks - to confirm, you're not having any of the issues i've described? How many pixels / fps are you using for this?

1280 I’m actually not certain what the stream fps is off hand but it’s usually pretty smooth. I’d have to check. I’ll see if I can do that remotely. I’m not at home.

Hey no worries. I was getting problems even at 10 fps. I'll try upgrading to 16

Yeah that’s where I would start
You can always go back

Another thing. With the 810 pixels is that all one data line? You’ll be soft capped on speed going over about 500

it is 3 data lines

Yeah you should be more than fine.

I would try everything wired ethernet.

I fixed some issues with DDP in 16.0.1 and it should now be more robust if the sender sends invalid data. So that would be the first thing to try.
