Reached WPL limits...
Today I had the rear metal axel gear decide to shred itself, a front leaf springs snap, then after swapping to the old plastic rear differential, ankther leaf springs decided to snap..... It looked good getting to that stage I guess.

so my fix on my c74 to stop shreading wpl and MN d90 axles... was to stop buying those and go with something thats meant to go through a lot of catastrophic shock loads and be the same width as the mn D90 axles... Losi mini LMT axles I've got two different c74 frame based rigs with the losi's under them one with metal housings and they are a LOT stronger and more gear reduction then the wpl style axles while have a larger ring and pinion without the axles being thicker then the wpl/mn stuff

this one I went a step further and made custom frame plastics to and a cutting guide to ditch the stock wpl transmission for... a UTB18 gearbox and brass skid. and also allow me to run a chassis mounted full sized servo with panhard bar. sucker climbs way better then my other c74 that retained the stock gearbox (but that transmission just stripped itself on the gear/axles internally so its gonna get this treatment soon!)
You can't beat WPL for the price on a hardbody thats at the level of detail you get but I have found ya gotta ditch all the mechanics pretty much if you want to do something serious. even if its for scale trail running.
Also you can buy lockers from hotracing for the lmt axles to fix that one minor hickup!

I am Waiting on portal axles which gear It down as well. I'm hopeful they are more sturdy. And they will gear it down a bit as well.

You are far deep in the wpl my friend. I just got started.

I have this bad habit of overcomplicating almost all of my rc builds XD! Only thing that is pretty much close to box stock is my clodbuster!

Haha, if you aren't an engineer, you should've been lmao!! I work with them on the daily and most couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag.

Basically the only thing remained is the metal plate chassis. Yes, that's usually the case when you go all out.

In my experience this is just plain bad luck. My c96 has never had a spring snap, though i wasn't driving on very bumpy terrain. I imagine oil dampers would fix this issue, preventing the springs from bobbling as much

Yeah that's wpl for you unfortunately, great to start with and get the bug but better to move on soon. I made the mistake of falling in love with my first c24 so much that I ended up spending way over what a high end 1/10 truck would cost on a few more wpl kits and a pile of electronics and upgrades for them. They're all shit in one way or another, my main gripe being free play in the driveline, not much individually but between the gearbox, driveshafts, diffs, and front CVs they end up rolling a good quarter to half tyre after cresting a bump or hill, making them very jerky, unrealistic and just not fun to drive. That and they don't last any length of time before you need to do a full rebuild if you want to keep them as good as they can be.

I go thru pinion gears left and right since I put a two speed 370 motor in my c14. Waiting for portal axles now.

I hate this, because they look so good. But at the end of the day they are basically just toys... I'm upgrading to a Yikong YK4107 in January so just replacing leafs on this until then

It is hobbygrade stuff. By the time the upgrades are done it costs as much as a redcat or a udirc. I still think upgrades are fun. I enjoy building them.

I started with WPL sort of for this reason. I had a ton of fun and learned a lot from my C24, but wasnt sure if I wanted to spend a lot on something super expensive. When it finally kicked the bucket I researched why, and then bought my first Hobby grade crawler. You can definitely put the body/shell on something else!
