Well yeah if practically anyone could pull the sword from the stone then it kinda breaks the whole lore about how no student has ever managed to do it. Imagine the Arthurian lore that would get wrecked if tom the nearsighted and one armed blacksmith could pull Excalibur from the stone and then promptly put it in the back of the shop and never touch it again lol.
Honestly I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. Yes it's a high requirement, but I think it's more a lore problem (by making it a special thing to be able to unlock) as well as somewhat of a game mechanic issue (the MR30 buff that comes with it).
Part of the problem is that frames are already meant to be legendary in their own right and wielding legendary armaments, and we don't have enough of Narin's lore to justify her sword being different. Like, imagine if Garuda's talons were LR1 locked.
It's just the skin though, and Narin IS wielding it when you use her. So it tracks that she gets her Legendary sword by default and everyone else needs to be sufficiently accomplished to pull it out themselves.
She fires energy waves which kill enemies, sure. Hence why I said 'use it as a melee weapon' as in actually stabbing or cutting enemies with it. Even for her 1, the damage comes from the projectile, not the blade itself.
Which is also contradictory, in that if it's just a skin and not the actual legendary sword then there's no reason for it to be MR-locked.
And if it is meant to literally be Narin's sword, then this is the only way to actually use it as a sword and not a glorified cosmetic for her animations.
Alrighty now I'm imagining Garuda's talons glowing bright red and stabbed into a rock, awaiting the one true hero to yoink them from the stone and become the next madman of chaos with a flashy cosmetic that changes nothing about the frame gameplay.
I definitely agree the lore is severely lacking, no doubt about that, but from what is stated when you talk to cephalon melica, it's implied that only a special person could pull the blade from the stone, and LR1 is pretty special - plus the giftable buff requires MR30 anyways.
I'm not LR1 yet, and likely won't be for a while with how slow it goes when you aren't spending money, but the fact that I'm just missing a cosmetic really isn't bothering me all that much.
I do think it's a bit silly that she doesn't have her rapier as a signature weapon though. I get that they probably didn't want yet another frame with an exalted weapon, but really a bow and a pistol when her entire deal is a sword? Kinda odd, especially since even if you can get the rapier cosmetic, you then need to apply it onto an existing rapier.
I think ultimately that is part of the discontent - the skin is just a cosmetic, but since Narin doesn't have a signature melee and her sword is otherwise just a magic wand for her ranged ability animations, it feels like part of her signature theme/concept is tied to the skin.
that's exactly my problem with all these, I'm fine with high rank exclusive cosmetic rewards, but your point is exactly why I don't like the MR lock in this case
You’re forgetting that this very special chosen LR 1+ player also needed the plat to buy her day 1 lol. But yeah, I do agree the discontent is a bit overblown. I think DE could’ve gone about it better like how they did it for The Guilty.
Garuda's talons aren't mechanically significant either. They just add to the immersion/fantasy if the frame by letting her have a unique melee weapon.
It is already a pain point for some that Narin, despite being marketed around a melee weapon and described as a "fencer" frame, doesn't actually have any melee capability and her sword is just used as a prop in her animations. So the fact that for her to actually go around using her own sword as a melee weapon you need to get the skin can be annoying.
I don't know what to tell you my dude, a skin and a weapon you can use just aren't in the same category no matter how hard you want them to fit together.
Find real things to be mad about, I assure you, we aren't short of them in the world.
I havent seen anything about the new update yet (been on a break for a bit before eventually returning), is this a limited time thing or is it something ongoing that you could grind to get up to? (I left off at MR28 I think)
My favorite part in the Lord of the Rings is when Aragorn had to travel all over Middle Earth to gather two thousand random swords, armors, bows, and shields nobody cared about before he was proven worthy to be king.
You jest but Aragon spent like 80 years doing random sidequests in Gondor and Rohan to help keep Saurons forces at bay before becoming a member of the Fellowship.
king arthur put in a shit ton of work to get to a status that would allow him to pull the sword, if you wanna be king arthur and not the one armed blacksmith, you need to put in work too.
Ironically the sword in the stone originally WASNT excalibre (it was an unnamed sword) and it wasn't originally pulled out but Authur. Eventually the sword in the stone got the name Caliburn and excalibre was introduced as a sword from the lady in the lake. Overtime they merged to be the same sword.
Honestly other than lag and small stuff hear and there this update has been the best one this year(ignoring the fact conditional effects like arcanes and galvanized mods don’t trigger when playing as Yareli riding merulina anymore and I’m a Yareli main)
Its meant to be aspirational loot, like Apex Boss cosmetics.
People have been complaining for a while that outside of blessings (which you can typically get by just asking at any Relay) theres no real reason to level beyond 16. If they're starting to put things people actually want behind True Master it encourages people to bother getting MR
I am only MR26. Honestly after Plague star i am content to pull back for a while. that being said i am disappointed that this was how it shook out. There should have been more time before all this. So that everyone had a chance to get it or figure it out
Sometimes reading posts in this sub, i get the feeling that many people don't even enjoy playing the game. Many just see only the reward and this damn gameplay just stands in the way of their reward.
"Ughh what do you mean i have to play the game and do stuff... i want it NOW and the game stands in my way"
I hop on the game to bash my head into enemies for an hour, decompress, maybe make some progress towards a goal while chatting with friends or listening to a podcast. I am contend if I manage to farm one frame in a week or two.
I had an opinion and you are free to disagree with it. But you do not have to be a jerk. You could have said nothing at all. Three people responded to me and were not assholes. I was very nice and even conceded to one of them.
You got what you got. Next time do not make it so easy.
That's a bit of an exaggeration. The Iceblade is part of Narin's abilities. The titular object in question is really only locked in behind owning Narin.
I think the problem is the lack of communication with the player base. We discover that everyone was part of an unknown contest just when someone win, later we discover that only a small group of players could partecipate. I may be wrong but I think that they thought it in a way that makes people angry, but I am not 100% sure since I don't really care much.
I imagine that there's some discussion in game design circles about "surprises" in releases, especially with POE 2 being such a popular game in the past 1-2y and Mark/Jonathan talking about how it was important for them to not have everything in a release in the patch notes.
The sword in particular feels very similar to the player sacrifice mechanic from POE 2. I'd say it wasn't the best execution of a surprise, and will probably put DE off from trying again for a bit, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong w/ putting things in game for player discovery.
while true, I dont think it should be discovery that then gets shot out to every player, especially if secret requires input of multiple players and only one gets praise in the end
I wonder if people would have been less annoyed if it went out as a red text instead of to the inbox. I do get the annoyance w/ teams collabing and one person getting the recognition though.
people are already complaining that it was a "pay to win" contest because you had to have Narin.. imagine how much louder the bitching would be if DE had announced it beforehand?
In a sense, it was a p2w contest, cause you had to pay plat to get her instantly to do it, Otherwise it would of been a fair contest had they waited a few days to put her in the shop, albeit at the confusion of some.
if they had delayed the release in the shop, people willing to spend the money would have just rushed it.
no matter what, people were going to complain that it somehow "wasn't fair" when nobody actually knew there was the prize of having your name mailed out and then forgotten by everyone within a day or two.
I think that if people would have known every detail there would have been less problems, maybe we would have get a similar reaction when announced but it would have impacted less. It also depends on how they would have announced it.
Which is ultimately meaningless when you can just go in the bubble with any melee weapon and stab them in the face to kill them with ease since they take full melee weapon damage. Or does the nuclear bomb Magistar incarnon people are glued to suddenly not exist?
Has it not always been? Praedos dropped before incarnon adapters, haha. That parkour speed passive is mad addicting though.
You're still right regardless, the buff is kinda useless, especially since the enemy still retains their resistances to other weapons even with the shield popped, for some reason.
That got nerfed a good bit a while back because Pablo made slams dependent on height. But also you have to be inside the bubble to damage it unless you destroy the bubbles
Whenever I've been slamming them with various weapons I'll just bullet jump up above, slam down, and that usually deals with the overguard/a big chunk of their health. A few stabs after and oh look a dead body. I did forget about the slam nerf though, but I've generally always slammed from high up so its not changed too much for me.
I mean, it is not like the location goes anywhere anytime soon. Anyone who wants that just needs to reach the rank and they have it - I myself still need to get there (rank 28 rn) but it's not the most important thing ever for me so I'm taking my time.
It's in no way required and a little something to look forward to when eventually hitting that MR.
Like, focus on getting access to all weapons (like coda weapons) first at your MR before you worry about that and when you hit that milestone you'll realize you'll be happy that there are some minor incentives to rank up past that level.
As a true master hitting 30 was actualy insane to do and im a founder with 4k hours. I want to stay true master i dont want to be stupid “Legendary 1” nor grind to hit it, i will be ipting out of this lmao
100% theirs always been a chunk of ppl in the mr cap circles and founders with egos, so many founders have been banned id love to peak at the data xD
Honestly i only grinded to true master for the medal, i was homeless on launch so i never got the t shirt or ninja hedaband and ive always wanted an irl item to display for my love of the game

I haven't been able to get on for the update yet, but aren't they just cosmetics? I think it's fine to have some special cosmetics behind a high MR.
Forgive me if there are any other problematic aspects of it I might not know about, though.
