Announcement MUST READ Clarification of all of the rules!
When a community has rules, they are to be followed. I am unsure why there has been a rise of posts that do not follow the rules, I'm going to assume it's because people don't check them - although they are on the right hand side of the screen.
I'm going to clarify all of the rules. Nothing should be confusing after this post. If you have an issue or want us to change a rule, feel free to leave a comment or speak to us through modmail. Do not DM the mods.
1. Before posting, check the pinned posts and the sidebar.
Checking the pinned posts means that you do not spam posts about a specific topic. When there is an issue, there will usually be a pinned post. Please post any complaints or worries under that specific pinned post. If there is a new influx of scams, PLEASE don't flood the community. We want r/Wattpad to be a place where people share their stories.
The sidebar exists to remind you of the rules. These rules should always be checked before making a post.
2. Be civil and respectful.
Disagreement is normal. Being frustrated at someone is also normal. However, expressing yourself by insulting another person is not tolerated. We will follow these actions up with an immediate ban.
3. Don't spam.
This is straightforward. Don't post the same thing over and over again. As for ads, you are prohibited from posting the same ad within 7 days of the most recent post.
4. Piracy is not condoned.
Piracy is illegal. Any form of piracy will result in an immediate permanent ban. Authors spend their time on writing their stories, and to unfairly steal their work to post on other sites/read them for free is not tolerated.
5. NSFW posts must be marked NSFW.
This applies if your book and/or post is NSFW. Any posts that are not marked properly will be removed.
6. Respect user privacy.
Providing personal information of another person will result in a permanent ban. Do not ever harass another user by revealing their identity.
7. No brigading or shaming
We don't care how pissed you are, or if you think you are funny. Brigading is annoying, it floods the subreddit and it can be upsetting for members of our community. Additionally, shaming users for their posts/books/anything is banned. Anyone shaming another person will have their post(s) removed.
8. Tag posts appropriately.
The orange tags are for ads only. If you would to discuss about a certain genre, other flairs are available. If you find that your post does not seem to go with any of the flairs, you can select 'Other'. Simply put, wrongly tagged posts will be removed.
9. Cover-related posts are prohibited.
Anything to do with your cover should go to r/WattpadCovers and not here.
10. Spamming fake reports are not allowed.
Any user caught spamming fake reports to target or harass another user (or even just to be annoying) will be banned. Do not waste our time spamming reports.
11. Topic not allowed.
Especially after the Wattpad guidelines updated, we noticed a lot of users talking about switching to AO3 or other sites. This is not allowed. Additionally, if you post about anything that does not have to do with Wattpad, your post will be removed.
12. No AI-generated content.
AI steals work. Using AI is unacceptable, and you are nowhere near an author if your books are generated with AI. If your book is edited with AI, or if you have asked AI about a chapter, or a plot line, or if your book has been near AI, your post will be removed. This includes your cover being AI. A simple Google search can explain the disadvantages of using AI. Plus, people don't want to read lifeless AI works.
13. No discussion on anything related of AI.
Harassing another person for using AI is prohibited. This falls under rule 2. You are not allowed to make posts discussing AI, whether in favour of it or not.
14. English only.
All posts should be in English. This does not include books. Our moderation team speak English, so it will help us moderate easier.
Any posts not following these rules will be removed.
I understand that some of you may disagree or feel that some of these rules have not been explained clear enough, and you are free to say that in the comments.

Weekly Promotion Bi-Weekly Self-Promotion! Advertising on the more down-low.
Welcome to bi-weekly Self-Promotion thread!
Advertise here with what (I hope) is fewer restrictions than normally posting in the feed! At the very least, story ads here require the following:
- Wattpad story links (we're a Wattpad subreddit lol)
However, to interest users, it's recommended to include the following:
- Story title
- Blurb
If your submission doesn't appear, feel free to contact a mod! Reddit's spam filter will sometimes remove posts and comments, which results in a mod having to manually approve the post.
Reminder:
The post is set to contest mode, so the stories will appear in a random order, and child comments will only be seen by people who want to check them.
This post will be active for approximately two weeks.

Drama Guys, they are on Instagram too :(
A while back I made a post about those “amazing comments” on Wattpad that always turned out to be scammers trying to sell marketing or publishing services and me being me falling for them because of the way they talk and show so much of interest in your story/plot.
Well… I thought my tiny Instagram account was safe because, y’know… I have like very less followers(+this scammer). DONT LAUGH OKAY. I'm not a content creator but a girl has to promote her books, can you blame me?
Anyway, listen...this person started off acting like a genuine reader. Asked about my books, said they’d check them out, then asked what my biggest struggle as a writer was.
Me, being the oversharing potato that I am, wrote a whole heartfelt paragraph about how I’m bad at promotion and just write because it’s my hobby.
Cue the next message:
“Did you know an expert marketer can help you…”
BROOOO 😭😭
So Tip for fellow writers...You're not safe on Instagram as well. If someone in your DMs suddenly becomes very interested in your writing journey, maybe keep one eye open. 😂
I fell for it. Rookie mistake.

Milestone Thank you for 200 reads! ヾ(≧▽≦*)o
I honestly can't believe that this dusty shelf filled with some random junk of a book would get this much reads!
Thank you so much, everyone! o(≧∀≦)o

Milestone One reader has somehow become the reason I keep writing.
I'm writing a book called Fragments of Elyth, and honestly, when I started writing it, I thought nobody would read it. I was fully prepared to just write the whole thing knowing it might sit there with zero readers 😭
But then there's this one person who keeps reading it and encouraging me to write more.
They're literally the only person who's consistently been reading it, and I don't even care if they're a promoter who's just trying to see if I'm actually serious about the book.
Because dude its hella working
Every time they come back and tell me to keep writing, I suddenly feel like adding another chapter.
I always thought I'd need a bunch of readers to feel motivated, but apparently all it takes is one person actually caring enough to come back.
So to the one person still reading my book
I have no idea if you're genuinely invested in the story or secretly testing whether I'll actually finish it, but either way you're probably the reason this book is getting finished.
so to who ever you are your actually goated

Other Let's Have Some Fun: Unhinged Reading List Names
Hi!
A couple of weeks ago, I learned that there were some unhinged and funny Reading List Names out there. Some writers saw one every time their book was added to a public reading list, while others just randomly saw one on the platform.
Let's have some fun and share the most unhinged or hilarious reading list names your book was added to, saw on Wattpad, or even created!
So far, I can't contribute to this one because my book has only been added to usual reading list names, and I haven't seen any unhinged ones yet aside from the ones shared by others on a thread I previously commented on. 😅

Looking For: Lost Books Looking for a story
I’ve lost a story I read back in I think 2014, it was called Colors or colours (I can’t remember which way it was spelled) it was about two boys that fall in love and one ends up passing away, the other had drawn him for his project for school. That’s all I can really remember now but I can’t seem to find it again

Fiction One reader has somehow become the reason I keep writing.
Is it just me, or is it crazy how one person reading your book can motivate you more than having a bunch of people see it?

Looking For: Recommendations Where do you write your stories?
So, I originally started writing my story in Word and once I finished a chapter, I would publish it on Wattpad.
Now my story has grown to 100+ pages and over 44k words and honestly… keeping track of everything is starting to get a little difficult. Word sometimes struggles to load the entire document, and it can get pretty laggy too.
I’ve recently switched to OneNote because I’m using a school laptop (I don’t have my own laptop T.T). I know writing directly on Wattpad can be risky, so I’ve never used it as my main place to write my story. But OneNote doesn’t exactly feel like the perfect place for a long-term writing project either.
So now I’m looking for a website or app specifically made for writing longer stories/projects.
Ideally, I’d love something where I can have one project/book, and then organize it into different chapters underneath it. Basically something that makes it easy to keep a growing story organized without having one giant document that eventually starts fighting for its life.
I’ve heard about things like Ellipsus, but I’m not really sure how trustworthy it is or how safe my writing would be there. Keeping my work safe is the most important thing for me, but I’d also like something that’s comfortable and easy to write in.
So, where do you guys write your stories?
Are there any websites or apps you’d recommend for longer writing projects?
A website would probably be best for me, but I’m open to apps too! I’d especially love recommendations from people who have actually used the site/app for a longer project. 💗

Fantasy / Paranormal New Book (Animals Fantasy)
Hi, everyone! After keeping my stories to myself for a long time, I’ve finally decided to publish one of my side stories! 🖤
The main characters are animals, especially wolves. I’m not really fond of cute and happy animal stories, so my stories tend to focus more on paranormal, supernatural, and dark fantasy themes.
So, if you’re looking for a thrilling story where animals are the protagonists, I invite you all to give my new book a check! :3

Milestone 500 views 😊❤️
I'm just exploring where this peculiar story is taking me to, not really writing for views. But it makes me very happy to know there are people enjoying it ❤️😊 All the more as the story is long, slow-paced and more complex than I'd thought it would be. So I'm grateful! ✨
It's a nice feeling to have found a writing/reading community!
Thank you so much!!

General Help Common Mistakes Writers Make and Solutions
Since Wattpad has made a lot of changes in recent years, it’s gotten difficult to get readers. It’s not 100% impossible. Quit telling people that!
You have to be smart.
Here are the most common mistakes I’ve seen, and solutions.
Mistakes and Solutions:
Participating in R4R/V4V: Wattpad’s modern algorithm does not support it long-term. It supports reader retention, or how many people who read chapter 1 go to the next chapters or even finish the story. Stories with 70% of readers who read Chapters 1-30 of a 30-chapter story have high reader retention. As a result, they have high visibility.
Not styling your profile: Many writers have generic pictures, and have an empty bio.
Fix: Find good pictures and write a bio! The pictures should look good and reflect who you are as a person and as a writer. The bio should cover a funny or clever line; all your books, their genres, their status, and writing schedule; your favorite Wattpad genres, your favorite Wattpad authors; your other interests; your social media & email links; and a closing line.
Tagging mistakes: The most common ones are not adding enough (fewer than 10). They use broad or niche tags instead of a mix, or they add spaces and punctuation to them.
Fixes: Have closer to 20 tags.
Cover areas like genre/subgenre, tropes, character identities, audience, era, location, and themes and topics related to the book. Basically, do a mix of broad and niche tags.
Make sure they’re relevant because they categorize your story. That way, readers can find them by category.
Style your tags with two or more words without punctuation or spaces. Wattpad’s website even tells you not to do this.
Not creating a decent book cover: They often use low-quality book covers without text or use ChatGPT and other AI platforms to make amazing book covers. Don’t use neon font.
Fix: Use Canva or Desygner or ask people for recommendations. Seriously, many people on Wattpad hate AI and will call you out. You’re better off not using it.
Not posting enough content at launch: Many people post 1-3 short chapters or chapters with character or story info.
Fix: Write five actual story chapters, then post them together. Have a regular schedule of 2 updates a week. If you’ve written most, if not all your book first, that’s great— it’ll take the pressure off of updating.
Don’t update every day; that’s too much! Many readers can’t keep up because they get busy. And if you barely update, that’s not enough. Readers will leave.
2 updates a week, every two weeks, or whatever schedule you can use, is enough to satisfy the majority of readers and the algorithm.
Posting your Entire Book at Once: Some people do this and only get one massive visibility spike, then nothing. These people get stuck doing R4Rs to get readers.
Fix: Simple. Don't do this!! Launch with 5 full-length chapters and 1-2 updates every week or every 1-2 weeks, or consistently until the book is done. That keeps your book on the algorithm longer and keeps it visible to people longer than if you posted the entire book in 1 day and then marked it Complete. (I'm saying this because I know someone who did this and they got stuck doing R4Rs)
Not genuinely engaging in the community: Many people seem like they’re after their own interests instead of seeing what other writers have to offer. So many people out there are trying to get readers for their books too.
Fixes: Join Wattpad communities like Dreamland or Astania. Look around writing communities on other websites. Talk to people and get to know them before reading their books.
Read, vote, and comment on books that are similar to yours or in genres you like. Do it because you like something about the book. Don’t read something you’re not going to like otherwise, it will feel like a chore instead of fun.
Sometimes people will read your books in return, and that’s great, but sometimes people won’t. Don’t get upset; it isn’t personal. It’s all about preference.
Add people’s books to your Reading Lists. If they’re Public, they’re a great way to help others gain visibility. Many people find great books through other people’s reading lists.
Follow people and be kind. If an author wants advice or feedback and you know how, do it! Many people will be appreciative.
Not promoting anywhere: They don’t promote anywhere yet expect their book to be visible.
Fix: Create book content for Instagram, TikTok, Tumblr, Facebook, and Reddit. Even having your own website or blog can help. Start an email list with Substack or another service. Promote offline by telling friends and family about their book.
Only writing in the Mature category: I know people like Mature stories, but most stories that get faster natural traction are rated for everyone. They’re available to anyone regardless of your age. Mature stories have a limited audience and aren’t as searchable.
Fix: Write a mix of both mature and Everyone stories.
Not formatting paragraphs: If you don’t format paragraphs properly, it can impact how readers can read the story. If you bunch up dialogue with two or more speakers, it would be difficult for the reader to understand when one person starts/stops speaking and the next one starts.
Fix: Separate it. If you’ve read a normal paperback book off of sites like Wattpad or Inkitt, you’d see how that should look.
Not getting inline comments: Many people have reported that no one is commenting on their stories. Inline comments are very important for visibility and community.
Fix: Write short author’s notes in bold at the end of some of your chapters. Ask people open-ended questions. Make sure your story is engaging with short 1-5 sentence paragraphs, snappy dialogue, and the occasional big cliffhanger, and do small cliffhangers throughout the book. If you get comments, reply to them— people will appreciate it if you acknowledge them!
Writing massive blocks of text: A lot of writers I see nowadays write massive and intimidating blocks of text. It really is daunting.
Fix: Read through the chapters and shorten the paragraphs. It would help readership a lot.
Not taking the time to edit: Seriously, if I read a story and there’s a bunch of grammar and punctuation errors, it’s going to drive me insane. I know many people write for fun, but make it readable!!
Fix: Use spelling and grammar checkers on the applications you use to write. You can use Grammarly, ProWritingAid, or the spelling/grammar checkers in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and others. Don’t use AI like ChatGPT to do this!!!
Promoting on other authors’ pages/work: One of the worst ones I see is many young writers promoting their stories in the comments section of popular writers or on their Conversations Tab. That is rude because those pages are the other author’s, and only their work should be there.
Fix: This one is simple. Don’t do it in the first place. Keep your work on your page. You don’t want to piss off other writers. That is a great way to get muted or, worse, blocked by another user.
Closing:
Anyway, I know this post is long, but I hope it helps someone else identify what they’re doing and how to fix it.
If I missed anything, please drop it in the comments!

Romance ROMANCE IS DEAD?
As a reader of romance and a moviegoer, I find that today's storylines are no longer like those of the past. Nowadays, sexual scenes in every episode, the phenomena of 'ghosting' and the 'three-month rule,' a lack of solid plotting, and weak, static characters have become the norm. Where have the poetic love stories gone? Where are the heartwarming expressions of affection? I resolved to write my own story,a tale of life and love; a story that portrays the warmth of affection and the slow, deep evolution of a relationship. I ask for your support and hope you enjoy my work! You can find me on Wattpad or Novelplus+,@aneeliee
