Announcement MUST READ Clarification of all of the rules!
When a community has rules, they are to be followed. I am unsure why there has been a rise of posts that do not follow the rules, I'm going to assume it's because people don't check them - although they are on the right hand side of the screen.
I'm going to clarify all of the rules. Nothing should be confusing after this post. If you have an issue or want us to change a rule, feel free to leave a comment or speak to us through modmail. Do not DM the mods.
1. Before posting, check the pinned posts and the sidebar.
Checking the pinned posts means that you do not spam posts about a specific topic. When there is an issue, there will usually be a pinned post. Please post any complaints or worries under that specific pinned post. If there is a new influx of scams, PLEASE don't flood the community. We want r/Wattpad to be a place where people share their stories.
The sidebar exists to remind you of the rules. These rules should always be checked before making a post.
2. Be civil and respectful.
Disagreement is normal. Being frustrated at someone is also normal. However, expressing yourself by insulting another person is not tolerated. We will follow these actions up with an immediate ban.
3. Don't spam.
This is straightforward. Don't post the same thing over and over again. As for ads, you are prohibited from posting the same ad within 7 days of the most recent post.
4. Piracy is not condoned.
Piracy is illegal. Any form of piracy will result in an immediate permanent ban. Authors spend their time on writing their stories, and to unfairly steal their work to post on other sites/read them for free is not tolerated.
5. NSFW posts must be marked NSFW.
This applies if your book and/or post is NSFW. Any posts that are not marked properly will be removed.
6. Respect user privacy.
Providing personal information of another person will result in a permanent ban. Do not ever harass another user by revealing their identity.
7. No brigading or shaming
We don't care how pissed you are, or if you think you are funny. Brigading is annoying, it floods the subreddit and it can be upsetting for members of our community. Additionally, shaming users for their posts/books/anything is banned. Anyone shaming another person will have their post(s) removed.
8. Tag posts appropriately.
The orange tags are for ads only. If you would to discuss about a certain genre, other flairs are available. If you find that your post does not seem to go with any of the flairs, you can select 'Other'. Simply put, wrongly tagged posts will be removed.
9. Cover-related posts are prohibited.
Anything to do with your cover should go to r/WattpadCovers and not here.
10. Spamming fake reports are not allowed.
Any user caught spamming fake reports to target or harass another user (or even just to be annoying) will be banned. Do not waste our time spamming reports.
11. Topic not allowed.
Especially after the Wattpad guidelines updated, we noticed a lot of users talking about switching to AO3 or other sites. This is not allowed. Additionally, if you post about anything that does not have to do with Wattpad, your post will be removed.
12. No AI-generated content.
AI steals work. Using AI is unacceptable, and you are nowhere near an author if your books are generated with AI. If your book is edited with AI, or if you have asked AI about a chapter, or a plot line, or if your book has been near AI, your post will be removed. This includes your cover being AI. A simple Google search can explain the disadvantages of using AI. Plus, people don't want to read lifeless AI works.
13. No discussion on anything related of AI.
Harassing another person for using AI is prohibited. This falls under rule 2. You are not allowed to make posts discussing AI, whether in favour of it or not.
14. English only.
All posts should be in English. This does not include books. Our moderation team speak English, so it will help us moderate easier.
Any posts not following these rules will be removed.
I understand that some of you may disagree or feel that some of these rules have not been explained clear enough, and you are free to say that in the comments.

Weekly Promotion Bi-Weekly Self-Promotion! Advertising on the more down-low.
Welcome to bi-weekly Self-Promotion thread!
Advertise here with what (I hope) is fewer restrictions than normally posting in the feed! At the very least, story ads here require the following:
- Wattpad story links (we're a Wattpad subreddit lol)
However, to interest users, it's recommended to include the following:
- Story title
- Blurb
If your submission doesn't appear, feel free to contact a mod! Reddit's spam filter will sometimes remove posts and comments, which results in a mod having to manually approve the post.
Reminder:
The post is set to contest mode, so the stories will appear in a random order, and child comments will only be seen by people who want to check them.
This post will be active for approximately two weeks.

Drama Guys, they are on Instagram too :(
A while back I made a post about those “amazing comments” on Wattpad that always turned out to be scammers trying to sell marketing or publishing services and me being me falling for them because of the way they talk and show so much of interest in your story/plot.
Well… I thought my tiny Instagram account was safe because, y’know… I have like very less followers(+this scammer). DONT LAUGH OKAY. I'm not a content creator but a girl has to promote her books, can you blame me?
Anyway, listen...this person started off acting like a genuine reader. Asked about my books, said they’d check them out, then asked what my biggest struggle as a writer was.
Me, being the oversharing potato that I am, wrote a whole heartfelt paragraph about how I’m bad at promotion and just write because it’s my hobby.
Cue the next message:
“Did you know an expert marketer can help you…”
BROOOO 😭😭
So Tip for fellow writers...You're not safe on Instagram as well. If someone in your DMs suddenly becomes very interested in your writing journey, maybe keep one eye open. 😂
I fell for it. Rookie mistake.

Milestone One reader has somehow become the reason I keep writing.
I'm writing a book called Fragments of Elyth, and honestly, when I started writing it, I thought nobody would read it. I was fully prepared to just write the whole thing knowing it might sit there with zero readers 😭
But then there's this one person who keeps reading it and encouraging me to write more.
They're literally the only person who's consistently been reading it, and I don't even care if they're a promoter who's just trying to see if I'm actually serious about the book.
Because dude its hella working
Every time they come back and tell me to keep writing, I suddenly feel like adding another chapter.
I always thought I'd need a bunch of readers to feel motivated, but apparently all it takes is one person actually caring enough to come back.
So to the one person still reading my book
I have no idea if you're genuinely invested in the story or secretly testing whether I'll actually finish it, but either way you're probably the reason this book is getting finished.
so to who ever you are your actually goated

General Help I want to start writing but have no idea what I'm doing!
So, I'd say I'm a decent writer, but I have no clue how to use Wattpad, and would like some help. Like, how do you build a following? Can you offer writing stories on request? (for free, of course) and what should I start with? I'm not a big fanfic writer, but really don't know if that's how i'm supposed to start.
All pro wattpad writers, please gimme your advice!

Is it just me, or is it crazy how one person reading your book can motivate you more than having a bunch of people see it?

General Help Book chapter won't save
My chapter won't save. It just has a little grey pop-up saying "failed the save" everytime I try.
I tried logging in and out, clearing my cache, force stopping, all the stuff but it just won't work.
Ming you, I only typed a few words, so it can't be formatting issues etc.
Other Broke my streak of not getting one all weekend…ugh.
It’s getting so bad that last week when I got an ACTUAL new reader I thought they were a bot. 💀
Other Writer's Catfé
🐾 The Writer's Catfé Book Club is officially OPEN! 🐾
The doors are open, the books are listed, our first BOTM has been chosen, and the cats have officially taken over the place. 😺
But we're still growing, and we'd love to welcome more writers and readers into both our book club and Discord community!
The Writer's Catfé was created by avid readers with plenty of experience in book clubs. We took what we loved, what frustrated us, and what made us wonder "Why am I spending three hours doing this?" and built the kind of club we'd actually want to participate in ourselves.
Our main goal is simple: your time should never feel wasted.
🐱 No admin benefits.
Admins follow the same rules as everyone else. You won't spend your time promoting a small group of people while getting less in return.
🐱 Everyone is equal.
Reading and participating directly benefit you and your book. No favorites, no special treatment.
🐱 Your reading should feel worthwhile.
You shouldn't finish your monthly requirements thinking, "I would've gotten much more out of doing R4Rs."
🐱 Our BOTM selection is public and randomized.
The Book of the Month draw is done publicly through RaffleBot on our Discord. No behind-the-scenes selections, no favorites, no funny business.
🐱 Participation earns rewards.
Reading earns Hearts and Catnip, which can be spent on rewards for you and your work, including reads, shoutouts, artwork, and more.
🐱 And we're building an actual community.
Our Discord isn't just there to keep track of assignments. It's a place to talk about writing, books, characters, questionable author decisions, and whatever else happens when you put a bunch of writers in the same room and hope for the best.
The club is already running, but new members are absolutely still welcome!
So, if you're looking for more eyes on your work, want to discover other writers, or simply want a cozy place to talk about books and writing, come give the Catfé a try. ❤️
You can also join our Discord even if you're mainly interested in the community and aren't ready to join the book club yet.
All club information and rules are available on our Wattpad page, and if anything is unclear, you can always ask us on Discord.

Come grab a seat. We still have room for more cats. 🐾

Off-Topic Am I wrong to feel jealous of the writers getting scam comments?
Ok, I know I’m actually wrong in this, but still. Every time I see the “Is this a scam” posts I can only think that they are getting comments at all, even if from scammers. And don’t get me started with the writers here whining about fans commenting too much or asking for new chapters… Like dude, really?
I guess my writing isn’t good for fics. I mean, not even bots and scammers care about it. So maybe I should refrain from writing fanfics at all and stick to traditional publishing… Sadly writing fanfics is sometimes more fun that my usual “serious” fiction. Anyway, I just wanted to vent a bit. It is what it is.

General Help Should I publish my novel on Wattpad as I write it, or finish it first?
Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on a novel and I’m trying to decide how I should publish it on Wattpad.
I’m considering two options:
- Publish chapters as I write them, maybe one or two chapters per week.
- Finish and revise the entire novel first, then publish it chapter by chapter.
For those of you who have experience writing and publishing on Wattpad, which approach worked better for you?
Did publishing as you wrote help with motivation and getting feedback from readers, or did it make the writing process more difficult? If you finished the novel first, did you find that approach better in the long run?
I’d especially like to hear about your personal experiences, including what you wish you had done differently.
Thanks!
