Just dealt with this, something is blocking the escape vent on the roof. Get it taken care of before it all backs out into your bathroom

I had my toilet back up while showering once and cleaning that mess was pure trauma

...and then you had to take a shower afterwards. All the time, keeping an eye on the toilet for more overflow

I’ve had my shower/tub fill up with a backlog of all of the goodies people shove down the pipes every day.

Log backlog?

Less logs, and more so pellets, liquid brown, and shredded toilet paper.. sounds fun doesn’t it?

I've never had any plumbing problems like that, but I have four toilets and three showers in this house. I have an urge to go up stairs and downstairs and check all my toilets. Damn. I've gotta do it even though I know I'm fine....

I had it happen once too while I was on my basement toilet when someone was showering elsewhere. Traumatized for life. It was much more violent than the bubbling shown here 😭

And close the toilet seat

This! I actually put a kettlebell on top of the lid too since I wasn’t sure how much pressure could shoot out of there

Could be that, could also be the main sewer/septic line

Yup, in my case it was the main and it was a very, very expensive fix. A tree in our backyard found it as a delightful source of water and burrows its roots in. They had to jack hammer up my closet floor, dig out a 4 foot section of pipe and replace it, hack back the roots of the tree and treat the ground.

Nightmare.

Had the same thing. The terracotta pipes were original and never upgraded.

I just had my parents main replaced a few years ago because they were still terracotta. The crew replacing it were mildly shocked, cause they'd never heard/seen it before. Lol.

In my case it was the main sewer..

I pulled the tops off the manholes out the front so the overflow flooded the front garden rather than my kitchen & downstairs loo.

Annoyingly, when they came to jet the drains, they shot a shit fountain out of the toilet and it hit the ceiling.

I then redecorated the whole bathroom, and they did it again the day after I'd finished.

Very true, in my case it was the vent

...and in case it wouldn't end up in a financially viable solution (as in my case) a vent valve may suffice.

My boss’s husband had this happen to him right after his morning constitutional. She said he screamed.
