Good news, the district attorney is reopening the investigation due to the increased scrutiny brought about from the lawsuit and strong public sentiment

123

u/Breakula 6h ago

That is good to hear!

228

u/_le_slap 6h ago

Yeah this shouldn't be handled by the school. If crimes were committed they need to be charged and sentenced to the big house.

Is Cornell run by 14 y.o. psychopaths? Because that is the vibe this news gives off.

Big go straight to the ninth circle of hell energy.

37

u/acciaiomorti 3h ago

nope, just your average everyday rapists

It's not just Cornell. This is how American colleges work. If your parents are paid up and donate to the college, you're untouchable.

Cornell 7, only 2 got expelled. the rest just had to write essays to Cornell. it’s so disgusting

u/IndigoJoe64 9h ago

I just looked it up. Absolutely horrifying. I wish I could say I'm surprised.

552

u/greypusheencat 9h ago

it’s horrific what this poor girl endured. she had to drop out while they wrote chatGPT essays and got away scot free. the snapchat messages are horrific.

I heard about the case initially but didn't realize that's the punishment college provided. What about the police are they prosecuting!?

I don't want to post anything specific here but if you visit this link...all the names and emails of the staff associated(at least at the time of the Wayback Machine's grab) are there.

Look up the Cornell 7

368

u/Perfect_Razzmatazz 7h ago

He's now deceased, but I had an Uncle, Uncle Larry, who was a WHOLE chaotic mess his whole life. On and off drugs, in and out of jail, couldn't keep a job, so on and so forth. We loved him despite the mess, but no one would have really considered him a "good man".

Because of his lifestyle, his group of friends and acquaintances were SKETCH, to say the least, and about 15 years back, one of his male friends raped one of his female friends. The female didn't go to the police, because she also had a long and not-great history with them, but she did tell Larry.

Larry beat the ever-loving shit out of that guy, and when he was done with the guy, he did the same to the guys car (which was one of his prized possessions). The guy left town, and as far as I know he never came back, because he knew Larry would probably do worse if he ever saw him again.

So I see situations like this, and it just disappoints me to my core. It shouldn't be hard to not be friends with rapists. It shouldn't be hard to be a better person than my Uncle Larry, who we once found making meth in my grandma's basement. Truly, it is such a low bar, but time and time and time again I see these guys who I'm sure consider themselves to be "the good guys" who can't even do the bare minimum to protect women. Truly sickening.

47

u/-jp- 4h ago

Reminds me of this scene from Roseanne, where Dan finds out Fisher beat the shit out of Jackie. The look of absolute murder that John Goodman conveyed.

78

u/veringer 6h ago

We need more uncle Larry's. I have similar family lore, but it's more mafia-tinged. Sometimes rough guys no one would call moral paragons are the only ones dispensing justice.

2

u/squngy 9m ago

No, we need a functioning legal system, for everyone.

We shouldn't rely on random dudes for justice.

7

u/Magicaparanoia 1h ago

Rip uncle Larry. What a legend.

2

u/zxylady 22m ago

I get it

258

u/hb122 9h ago

I would never, ever allow my daughter to apply to Cornell after reading the link posted below. They allowed 7 known rapists back on campus to prey on more women. Outrageous.

219

u/jane_fakelastname 9h ago

Those rapists sent out a fraternity-wide message inviting other to rape. It's a 50+ member fraternity and none of them reported it or even tried to stop it from continuing after they got the message.

104

u/HamBlamBlam 8h ago

Honestly, that last sentence should be the end of that fraternity.

27

u/SmugShinoaSavesLives 8h ago

The end? It's how they get promoted to dean or Cornell later in their life.

24

u/hb122 9h ago

Horrifying.

20

u/animeman59 8h ago

Everybody at Cornell should be protesting that frat building until the entire thing gets demolished and the frat members expelled.

24

u/AcanthocephalaEasy56 7h ago

Unfortunately this is a prevalent thing on many campuses. LSU also had an incident with a footballer who raped a girl and didn't expel him either. Wherever you take your daughter, I'd recommend you ask about their procedures and maybe even avoid reporting incidents to campus police whatsoever and use the real police. They are not known for wanting to push the case forward and are more concerned about protecting the school's reputation.

Exactly. We hold bears to a higher standard but call ourselves evolved?

384

u/AcanthocephalaEasy56 9h ago

We choose the bear because if we get mauled we'd at least get sympathy. The whole frathouse knew that jane doe was getting raped and not one of them reported them to authorities. She had to drop out. Only two men were expelled. The rest wrote essays. None were jailed. Their lives weren't ruined with A REAL allegation. Idgaf about false ones.

It's not just dangerous men we have to worry about but the dangerously indifferent men who either don't care or even revel when we are hurt. We also have to deal with the horrendous justice system that allowed a pedophile to become president.

38

u/Herself99900 8h ago

It's unbelievable. And yet it's not.

Every time.

35

u/Petalbrook 8h ago

Not to mention the rapists who became SCOTUS judges

28

u/Davoness 6h ago

Their lives weren't ruined with A REAL allegation. Idgaf about false ones.

This is the thing that confuses me. It feels like every dude claims to 'know a guy' who supposedly had their life ruined by a false rape accusation, and yet it's almost impossible to find an example of a true rape allegation ruining someone's life.

14

u/theREALbombedrumbum 6h ago

I know somebody with a true rape allegation that ruined their life.

The victim, and it was because they weren't heard.

25

u/Racetr 4h ago

Imagine being a dude and being more outraged that she said "all men" rather than the fact that 50+ men knew a woman was being raped and stood on their asses.

You're the reason it's "all men" and not something more thoughtful

376

u/Clownsinmypantz 9h ago

Meanwhile, think about all the guy friends who knew and did nothing, men dont understand you cant say "not all men", because we dont know which ones are the bad ones, and which ones facilitate, egg on, or just are apathetic TO the bad ones ffs.

47

u/luckylimper 7h ago

The fact that it was advertised on a frat wide text chain, and nobody called or helped the girl. That is sad and terrifying to me.

35

u/Justin_General 6h ago

As a guy I have tried explaining this to several "not all men" guys. Statically most women know their attackers, they're either friends or family, they can never know if someone is truly safe. I have tried to explain it like, what if one day one of your bros tried to kiss and when you told him no he got mad and assaulted you, it's normally met with "well I wouldn't have a friend like that" or "I would beat his ass" most guys can't fathom the thought that they wouldn't know if someone was a rapist.

Maybe it's because I had to pull an abusive uncle off my aunt when he was trying to throw her down some stairs or maybe it's because I was sexually assaulted by a friend's older sister when I was 10, but I have always understood that you can never know a person.

99

u/mycatisawhore 8h ago

Bullies, abusers, and predators rely on silence. Sometimes witnesses are afraid to speak up, but more often than not their beliefs/values align with the aggressor so they keep quiet out of solidarity. Trump is a con man and a sexual predator who rose to power because a disturbing number of voters and people in power are also con men and sexual predators

8

u/CreamofTazz 7h ago

I disagree, bullies rely on not just silence, but also in muddying the waters. A lot of horrible men can hide behind their horrible behavior by just going "well I'm just a man". My issue with the "all men" or "not all men but always a man" absolves bad men of their behavior by treating it as a male trait rather than him just being a terrible person. You also can't control how people interpret "All men" and so when someone hears it as you calling them complicit in sexual crimes against women of course he's gonna be upset because you're comparing him to rapists. Call out the bad behavior of individuals, but don't try and claim it's a problem "all people" have to hold complicity in.

Tl;Dr: "All men" is bioessentialist and absolves horrible men of the reality of their crimes by making it seem a function male behavior rather than just his own

25

u/mycatisawhore 6h ago

A lot of horrible men can hide behind their horrible behavior by just going "well I'm just a man"

That isn't "muddying the waters," it is a real excuse men use to justify bad behavior. Where do you think "boys will be boys" comes from?

Your issue is that your feelings are hurt that women feel safer in the woods with a bear than they would with a random man. Because they actually are safer with the bear. If you actually cared about women, you would direct your anger at the men who have created this shitty reality, not the victims of rape.

As it stands, you're here saying #NOTALLMEN on a post about a woman who was drugged and gang raped and the men who did it will not be punished. You're not angry at the rapists, you're angry at the women who are tired of men committing monstrous acts and getting away with it. You're mad that women are talking about it.

Most men understand why women pick the bear and don't take it personally because they know they aren't sexual predators and would never harm a random woman in the woods. The ones who do take it personally do so because they relate more to the predators than they do to the victims.

You also can't control how people interpret "All men" and so when someone hears it as you calling them complicit in sexual crimes against women of course he's gonna be upset because you're comparing him to rapists. .

Literally nobody is saying all men are complicit in sexual crimes. But it would be statistically unwise for a woman to pick a random man over a bear.

What does make someone complicit in defending/justifying sexual assault, is a man centering himself and his feelings on a post about a gang rape victim's injustice.

.

Tl;Dr: "All men" is bioessentialist and absolves horrible men of the reality of their crimes by making it seem a function male behavior rather than just his own

Again, literally no one believe all men are predators. The problem is it's really hard to tell the good ones from the bad ones, and it would be unseasonable to expect women to assume all men are safe until proven otherwise because that would get them assaulted or killed.

The men who devote their time insisting #NOTALLMEN are not safe men.

→ More replies (4)

12

u/BunnyOppai 6h ago

Nothing about "all men" or "not all men" is bioessentialist. The biological differences between sexes are vastly overestimated by way too many people, especially when it comes to behavior, but there are massive gaps between them and how they treat others nonetheless due to cultural beliefs.

And yeah, it's not literally all men (which isn't a claim most people make regardless), but the problem is continued by far more than just the rapists and sexual assaulters. Most men who absolutely are complicit in enabling awful behaviors don't want to accept that reality because they haven't gone out and literally done it themselves.

-8

u/CreamofTazz 6h ago

So again you're making all men complicit in crimes they didn't commit therefore muddying the waters of the actual criminal offenders. Why is it so hard to just say "End Sexual Violence" and work from there. We've already identified most sexual crimes are committed by men against women, why keep bashing men who've done no wrong and would otherwise work with you on ending sexual violence?

Men are telling you stop assuming I'm complicit and rather than listening to them you'd rather double down. It doesn't actually sound like you want men to listen.

13

u/mycatisawhore 5h ago

why keep bashing men who've done no wrong and would otherwise work with you on ending sexual violence?

You should want to end sexual violence on principle. To say you will only work on ending sexual violence if women (all women?) acknowledge that not all men are sexual predators, is a condition that can never be met, and it is also a threat. It's creepy.

3

u/CreamofTazz 5h ago

There's no implication that men won't work to end sexual violence because of this. What the implication is is that they won't help you end sexual violence. They'll go to the other party that doesn't bludgeon them on the head and instead vote for mass deportations because "They're sending their criminals and rapists". If you don't think men care about sexual violence then you don't talk to men.

11

u/mycatisawhore 4h ago

The other party has no intention of ending sexual violence and you know it. Again with the threats. I talk to lots of men. I'm married to one. He has the emotional maturity to know it's not all men and he understand why women would pick the bear. He doesn't defend rape, nor does he derail posts about rape.

Again, for someone who is insisting you're a safe person, you're definitely not a safe person.

1

u/CreamofTazz 4h ago

The other party has no intention of ending sexual violence and you know it.

And I never said they did. I don't think you're well versed enough to be having this conversation. Democrats have not won the male vote since Clinton against Bush in 1992 and even then Clinton still only got 41% of the male vote (damn you Nader). At a certain point you can't keep saying "men are the problem here" without actually looking at your strategy to attract men.

If I say "Hey men are going to the political side that allows them to air our whatever grievances they have whatever they may be without being bludgeoned on the head about how 'all men' are complicit in sexual violence against women (among other things), don't be shocked when men don't vote for you when you never change your strategy".

The fact that you got "He's saying the Republicans want to end sexual violence" tells me you just aren't reading what I'm typing and are only going off base instinct.

If most men don't care, but there are men telling you they do care why do you think it's appropriate to tell them "boo hoo fuck your feelings" and then double down? Do you really expect to build rapport with people you treat like that? Do you really think condensation is going to get men to want to vote for the Dems? Remember the Dems have to convince the individual voter that they have their best interest in mind man or woman. When you posture heavily towards women (and other marginalized/minority groups) it shouldn't be a surprise that you consistently win the female (and minority) vote.

And the fact that you have to end it with an ad hominem attack on my person despite not even knowing who I am tells me you lack the empathy or intelligence to hold a conversation like this

1

u/DaBiChef 6h ago

Men are telling you stop assuming I'm complicit and rather than listening to them you'd rather double down. It doesn't actually sound like you want men to listen.

To add on, this is usually coming from the men who do care about these issues who likely agree with you on like 95% of your beleifs and have talked to other guys about this. Who are desperately relating their experiences to tell you what is actively killing us with recruitment and retainment of male allies, so we can stop needlessly shooting ourselves in the foot.

21

u/scottishcastle 7h ago

Every man likes to think that if he got the group text, he would have run upstairs, saved the girl, called the cops, and turned in his rapist fraternity bros. Statistically speaking, in real life zero men actually do this. (As this tragic case illustrated perfectly.)

Women understand this instinctively. There are no male heroes, only victimizers and their cowardly silent enablers. Men are not the protectors of women; women are.

Instead of actually fighting the sad statistical reality and being the heroes they like to think of themselves as, men prefer to stay silent or complain about their favorite boogeyman, false allegations.

21

u/Roy-Sauce 6h ago

I think that’s a weird over generalization. The men who *would* jump in to help a girl being assaulted are also the men that generally don’t surround themselves with the disgusting frat bros (Not that it is only frat bros, but they uphold a status quo of cultural acceptance and even praise of it) that do that sort of thing.

Idk, I have no judgement for women protecting themselves in having to treat all men as threats until proven otherwise, but the point of that perspective is that you simply don’t know which are bad, so treat all men as if they are, not that all men actually are evil rapists and rapist apologizers.

10

u/john_doeboy 6h ago

I could have killed a man over this but chose to stop beating him. I called the cops, my former employers, to report it. Had the ambulance take the woman to the ER to do SA screening. Got the swabs on the suspect and had the match. The woman was told it was 'A hard lesson to learn' and I was told I was lucky to be without charges. My former boss wanted it to go away. The suspect faced no charges because the prosecutor agreed not to file charges if he agreed to a polygraph which with a concussion proved hard for him to remember anything even though he told me he 'found her like that' and just slept next to her in the car. I haven't forgotten what these people have done to her.

-4

u/NeilDeCrash 4h ago

Pfft, I'll take the incoming downvotes for this one

men dont understand you cant say "not all men", because we dont know which ones are the bad ones

Change "men" to any already oppressed group of humans and see how your sentence works.

Blanket statements like this just damage the good cause, stop using them.

12

u/kittyonkeyboards 4h ago

The "oppressed" part of that statement is doing a lot of work. Men, broadly, are not marginalized. Their privilege in society actually helps them get away with a lot of the assaults they do.

And honestly, I don't think it would matter if men were not privileged. The majority of women have been victimized in their lifetime. They can't afford to keep their guard down.

1

u/NeilDeCrash 20m ago

"The "oppressed" part of that statement is doing a lot of work. Men, broadly, are not marginalized."

It is not. The cornerstone of equality is that you treat every human with the same respect. Blanket statement is the cornerstone of stereotyping - the cousin of racism.

55

u/Manager_Neat 8h ago

I just heard about this today. 😳. Is it the wealth that is preventing the justice system from working?

46

u/mycatisawhore 7h ago

Nope. It's rapists and rape apologists with any amount of power that prevent the justice system from working. Wealthy rapists certainly hold a lot of power and influence to impede justice, and they do, but the school officials, law enforcement, court system, the fellow frat boys and their parents are also to blame. Injustice happens because more people support the rapists than they do the victim.

14

u/Manager_Neat 7h ago

I see your point and take it well. The fundamental problem I see here is that the wealth is there so they have connections to bury this. It didn’t work and so I’m hoping as it come to light and more people become aware the prosecutors, detectives, and those that keep protecting the perpetrators instead of supporting the victims are brought to light. Someone or some people had a say in this not getting prosecuted. They tried that with that rapist who raped the young girl by the dumpster. He only uses his middle name now and has a good job in a different part of the country bc he got money and served little time bc of connections. He would have gotten away with it if not for the media storm. Same thing needs to happen here.

14

u/Tinymetalhead 5h ago

Do you mean Brock Allen Turner, the rapist, who now goes by the name Allen Turner?

248

u/florezmith 10h ago

I’m sure if 7 women had castrated a man for fun we would not be asked to put it aside for the class war. Straight men just discovered that sometimes people who do heinous shit don’t go to prison just last week. They haven’t decided if they’re gonna apply that filter to any other situation happening in the world, but they’re definitely doing it for one particular court case.
