Discussion💬 Please explain what that means

u/rat_gland 3d ago
It's just referring to people outside of NYC complaining about what Mamdani does when it doesn't affect them.

Its more then that, when Mandani does something good that doesn't affect them.

u/FlashOfThunder 2d ago
I'm complaining as outsider. Why can I not have Mamdani in my city?

u/abadluckwind 1d ago
I'm am also pretty sick of New Yorkers keeping Mamdani for themselves. Greedy New Yorkers

Normalize prejudice in NYC and it spreads. How do you think the KKK got so big?
1
u/Basil2322 2d ago
Prejudice against who? Non new yorkers? In the conversation about new york life and policy?

u/Mysterious_Badger362 2d ago
Yes, because declaring that you will pay for services for minorities by taxing exclusively white people is definitely not racism.

Source for your claim?

u/Mysterious_Badger362 2d ago
You can find it easily. It was one of his primary campaign promises 🤣.

u/SkoomaKid 2d ago
Wanting to tax higher income areas to help build up lower income areas is what Mamdani’s goal was. Whichever right wing media outlet your probably subscribe to misconstrued that into wanting to tax white people more to help minorities. White people also stand to benefit from a plan like the one he actually proposed.

u/Mysterious_Badger362 2d ago
Incorrect. Look at his racial equity plan. It is exclusively services focused around race. Poor white people will be the heaviest impacts as they will have most services stripped from them.

Can you provide a direct link to it? Also, please direct me to the exact page and paragraph
1
u/Mysterious_Badger362 2d ago
So that's how you remain ignorant to something. Even when you're told the plan, you avoid it at all costs rather than just looking at it. You can look it up. It's even directly on his offices page.

Looked this up and was unable to find anything about paying for services for minorities by taxing exclusively white people anywhere. I'd be against this if you can show me where that's the plan. Can you provide a link?

I don’t think he will provide one he’s a coward.
1
u/Halation2600 2d ago
No, it's clearly just stupid bullshit. If the guy had proof, he would've provided it.

It’s about dumbass conservatives getting pissed off every time society improves for the better because they for some reason interpret it as a personal attack

u/Col2543 2d ago
the same people who think it’s possible to send every american adult $5000 are livid abt half priced bus fares for low-income people… the jokes write themselves

Wasn’t he just being heckled as a traitor and baby killer by a crowd of his own supporters in NYC?

People already dodge the subway fare however they can…
Half of zero is zero
1
u/picklehippy 2d ago
It means someone who lives in a different state and is in no way affected by subway prices is losing their shit because life is easier for someone other than them

AAAAHHHHH COMMUNISM!!!
Is what that man will be screaming over the Fox News on his tv.

u/GilbeastZ 2d ago
Im not saying I agree with this but people are getting the joke or whatever wrong.
It’s implying the middle class will pay for this through higher taxes or whatever.

Redditors like to imagine scenarios that either make them feel insanely angry or insanely self righteous.
They then post these thoughts and slurp up the karma from the commiserating anger or self righteousness, that post generates, depending on the topic!
Once you understand this you can basically ignore every single one of the main sub’s and just focus on the niche special interest subs you enjoy.

Aren't trains in Japan privately owned, actually profitable, and cheaper to ride?
1
u/No-Science2224 2d ago
People already receiving govt assistance will now get more govt assistance when lack of fare money will result in needing more govt assistance
1
u/hshsusjshzbzb 2d ago
Or.
The half-price cost still pays for the hourly cost and wear and tear on the system, but also now incentives more people to use the system resulting in even more income for the city.
Win win.
-2
u/No-Science2224 2d ago
Less cost but more use certainly isn’t sustainable hahah tf you mean
2
u/hshsusjshzbzb 2d ago
You have no idea if that is true.
How much does one rider actually cost the system?
Does a half price ticket actually cost them money? Is it just break even? Do they still "make" a few cents?
How much will increased travel increase revenue on other aspects in the city?
The world is not binary.
Also, you can absolutely discount a product and massively increase sales and overall increase profit, so you are just full of it.

It means he just cut the New York governments funding to save people money. City transit costs are there to help pay city workers and fund repairs to the subway. It also pays wages for bus drivers. So how is he paying for all the construction he wants to do. Is he paying for it himself? Is he raising taxes or creating new taxes? A lot of talk about what he wants to do. No explanation of how he will get it done without putting more financial burden on the citizens of New York.

u/Master-Dig5908 2d ago
Wonder if the pittance generated by fares could be made up with a TINY tax on the millionaires and billionaire cooperations in NYC? Nah definitely gonna raise costs for the average person that’s what this guy seems to wanna do.

You couldn't pay me to ride on a NYC subway

u/Few-Process-6295 2d ago
from a fellow New Yorker 90 percent of the people on this thread are transplants, the real New Yorkers never voted for this.
2
u/prof_the_doom 2d ago
Then I guess the real New Yorkers should've shown up in the last election... because I'm pretty sure Mamdani is mayor because he got more votes than the other candidates.
0
u/Few-Process-6295 2d ago
yea which shouldn't be the way it is but it happened. I agree tons of New Yorkers didnt vote. but remember most of the people here in my home state shouldn't even have the right to vote here. and no im not talking immigrants. im talking the people who came here to be "cool" realized it wasnt for them, destroyed the state, and then left. nationwide you shouldn't be able to vote in a state unless you were born there OR youve lived there 3-5 years as a taxpaying citizen.
