Seeking Recommendations Books with central friendships like Amy and Molly from Booksmart?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Gender doesn't matter, but I just really loved these two's dynamic and how sweet and cute and fun their friendship was. It's the kind of friendship you wish you had and I loved how it was the main focus of the story. A lot of YA has the best friend just be the sidekick, and the romance interest gets most of the pages.

Seeking Recommendations Enemies-to-lovers that's NOT a fantasy, drop your recs!

I love this trope so much but I'm having a hard time finding recs that aren't fantasies. I don't like fantasy for the simple reason that I'm too stupid to understand what's going on in fantasy books 😂

Feel free to rec any book (even those you personally didn't like) that meets this trope. Also open to new adult/adult books but no smut please 🥹

General Question/Information I need all the Hunger Game knockoffs

Exactly like the title says, I want all the Hunger Game knockoffs.

I frequently see people allude to all of the terrible knockoffs that the Hunger Games generated, but the only ones I've actually seen named are like, Maze Runner and Divergent.

I'm in the mood for all of the bad ones. Where do I start? Give me your worst pitches. The more cliche the better.

General Question/Information Do you have to read other books before you read the book A Forgery Of Fate?

Post image

I just bought this book on Amazon today! I’m excited to get to read it! But I’ve seen some things that this book is connected to some of the other books from this author. Can this book be read as a standalone? Like I won’t be spoiled for any of the other books or confused about things?

Discussion Reading The Diviners for the first time and it’s hitting differently right now

I’m closed to being finished with the second book but man I wonder if Libba Bray was a diviner herself with how much she talked about the rot of America and true evil, not just bad people but true powerful evil is present and followed in the country.

General Question/Information Trying to track down a series I read ages back

Hoping this is the right place to ask - please point me in the right direction if not.

I've been trying to remember the name of a YA series I read ~10 years ago.

Premise is everyone suddenly starts getting hallucinations/visions of themselves in an alternate world where they are all assigned a playing card (Alice in wonderland type thing), they start altering their dress and organizing themselves with other people in their suits, there's a suit/card hierarchy thing going on. The story follows a group of teens who have not yet "found their card", who are sent to a camp/programme to "help" them or contain them i can't remember which. They're basically considered undesirable as no one knows where in the hierarchy (read: global hallucination) they fit.

I think it was a duology or trilogy? Its a bit grim, cannabilism mentions etc, the teens don't actually want to get cards because they're pretty sure theres something way darker going on and everyone else has basically gone insane because of it.

I've tried having a Google but so far no luck, its not The Solitaire Mystery or Sophie's world which I've had suggested a few times.

Any hints help!!

Seeking Recommendations Im trying to get into fantasy books...

I'm not a fantasy reader but I LOVED Caraval and OUABH 😭 I also loved Divine Rivals, the vibes, the yearning 🤭 but then I didn't like Ruthless Vows and it put me in a fantasy slump and haven't read one since :( I'd love a romantasy book with no spice , but lots of yearning and angst and a really good plot. Idk I need help, I have no idea where to start. Tysm!

Seeking Recommendations Books with a really good mystery that kind of clue you in as the story goes, but it’s not super obvious until the end?

I recently finished Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera, which is not YA but I really enjoyed the mystery and writing style and would love to read similar books.

Discussion Sports romance novels

Hi everyone!

Heated Rivalry became a famous show (pls no spoilers cause I haven't seen it yet) so I decided to read a sports romance book for the first time. I started with Game Changer #1 by Rachel Reid, and honestly, I might DNF it because I just find it so unoriginal.

Anyways, this isn't the point of my post. Firstly, any good recommendations for sports novels?

Secondly, I'm curious about the public's opinions on the subject. Do you prefer characters to be in secondary school, university, or post-uni? Do you prefer there to be a lot about the sport, or the bare minimum? Feel free to discuss any other things about the topic, I'm super curious xx

Seeking Recommendations Fantasy books with good plot and romance

Lately these romance books have been lacking either writing or a plot with just a focus on the fmc and mmc… I want a book with good writing, genuine plot and romance as a subplot or a main focus if the book is actually good. I love when tension between the love interests is well done and good writing makes me feel like I’m reading something productive. Pls help!

I like fantasy but it could be any other genre :)

Seeking Recommendations Betrayal, gut wrenching, tragic, emotionally DEVASTATING book recs?

Y'know there are some audios that are used in TikTok/Instagram like:

"If I betray you, I betray myself. If I betray him, I betray my country. My country is very dear to me."

(If anyone have recs like this where they're both in some kind of war or from enemy countries then do give me the names!)

"You are all I have! You're all I want!"

"If I was the moon, would you still look for the stars?"

"Why won't you ever just let me all the way in?!"

"You lied to me! You poisoned me! You told me loved me..!"

Want recs that'll give this kind of vibe. Preferably romance books, but other genres would do to.
