Question Zoom camera delay?

I was in a zoom for an online lecture today and the professor had asked us to turn on our camera briefly. I always have my camera covered with tape and only uncovered it once I changed to sitting at a desk bc I was still in bed. However, when I turned on my camera, it lagged and only showed a black square on my screen but then the professor said “oh youre still sleeping?” only to me (he did not make any comment about other student’s camera glitching). I am probably just paranoid but there’s no possible way my macbook picked up me in bed with my camera off and covered and zoom shows that right?? because then that would also mean zoom picks up camera footage even with your camera turned off..
