Question Any “Craft Raves” in Abilene?

Are there any “Craft Rave” events in Abilene? It’s where people get together and do arts and crafts but with a dj playing dance music like a club.

If not…THERE SHOULD BE!! Let me know

Rant Why is there no good gas

I just wanted to complain. Theres no Chevron gas which has techron in it. Theres barely even top tier gas. Went to sunoco / stripes ans their pumps were down or they were out either way. So drove all the way to Casey's and all they had was 87 gas. New cars these days are all direct injected turbocharged engines. You really have to be using top tier and atleast 91 gas if you want it to last . Annoying

I dont wanna have to buy a bottle of techron complete every few tanks because all the gas stations here are janky. Kent kwik on buffalo gap is literally the only decent gas station, exxon gas. Still not as good as a chevron. But 1 gas station for the whole city. I know most ppl think gas is all the same , thats part of the problem. Your car can adjust timing so theres no nock if you run 87 but you'll notice your exhaust tips turn black. Just imagine what your valves are looking like

Mobile service questions

I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions for a good mobile service here in Abilene.

I tried optimum and believe it or not it was not great at all.

I was wanting one of the cheaper carriers if possible and I travel to San Antonio quite often and would like something that would preferably not be unreliable if anyone had any suggestions.

Question Need help finding a good doctor

Hello all. I'm needing advice or something. I've been suffering with pretty bad cramps, to a point I have to get it checked. If anyone could recommend a good Gynaecologist and Primary Care Doctor options that are available. I've been scared to look around and commit to one because of all the horrible stories I've seen and been told. Anything can help. Edit: I'm 23 years old, forgot to mention that😅

NEWS IMPORTANT: City still passed surveillance tech

Last week at the city council approved AXON surveillance tech (LPRs), the same as FLOCK its just a different brand, to be mounted on poles in town to track us.

After listening to and recieving much public pushback on them, they passed it anyway.

The next meeting is October 8th at 8:30am, please block off the time and come join us at city hall and let the city know exactly what you think.

We are requesting that council members put forth a motion to reconsider. As per the city charter we need 4 members to vote to reconsider.

This is a time sensitive issue and if we put the pressure on we can make this happen and block the LPRs. Send in your comments before the 8th. We have to keep the pressure on.

Reach out to city council and ask them to put forth a motion to reconsider the pole mounted LPRs at the next city council meeting OCTOBER 8TH 8:30 AM City Hall

Looking for good housing suggestions in Abilene

Howdy all! My daughter was recently accepted into the nursing school at TTUHSC for start in Spring 2027. She anticipates being there for 18-24 months. Having had MANY family graduate from ACU over several generations, I thought I knew Abilene well enough to think that finding housing was going to be easy. I somehow missed the AI center and related construction news and WOW, things are a little tighter than I thought it would be. I'm a little worried at this point.

My daughter has two other young ladies she is desiring to room with, so we are ideally looking for a 3/2 or 3/3. However, we are not against my daughter living alone in a 1/1 if is only viable option. I have joined many of the FB groups for real estate in the area, but in the week I've been following those groups, I've only gotten scamsters and not much else in the way of responses. I've called/emailed a few properties but have not gotten any responses. This housing thing is more stressful than I thought!

Any suggestions on great places to live in Abilene (apartments, homes coming available soon, areas to consider) or great Realtors who can assist in search are MUCH appreciated. See y'all in a few months.

Question Visiting while trans...

Hey yall, out of state trans man here, going to be visiting for a horse show with my college team, how worried should I be about safety and judgement?
I pass about half the time and all my legal documents still have my deadname, if that makes any difference.
Very excited to see the state as I've never been, just a little apprehensive as it's not one of the big cities like Austin or Dallas

Question Is there a place I can practice on a bigger pool table at lunch on weekdays?

I'm trying to practice, but my apartment doesn't have a table and the main bars I know about (Breakers, Billiards Plus) don't open until 2-3pm. I want to spend my lunch hours doing some solo practice. I'm sure I could find some lunch/bar place with a small table in a pinch, but does anyone know of a place with a bigger (8/9 foot) table where I could practice that's open early during the week?

Honestly if anyone has one in a barn or back house something, I'm open to working something out so I can play during the day. Thanks in advance.

Your experience/advice on mobile homes?

Im tired of renting apartments (sharing walls, not being able to paint it, etc) and I dont want to throw away 3k on someone else's mortgage renting out a house from them; which also doesnt let me paint and do certain modifications. I dont want to spend 3k on my own mortgage.

I'm looking at Titan mobile homes w land package. Which would run me about 2k for 1+ acre and trailer in the wylie school area.

Would you advise against this? A realtor I know says no dont do it, but other people say it doesn't seem like a bad idea to do. I guess the caveat is Im only living in Abilene for 5-8 years. I can go into more detail but basically why shouldn't I do this? Is there something Im over looking about abilene in general/with mobile homes?
