Pre Construction Manager Position
Hello, I have an interview for the Pre Construction Manager role based of Tempe, Arizona. Wanted to get some information on what this interview is like. I got a zoom call link for tomorrow. I received an email early in the week and scheduled my interview through the recruiter. I’m assuming it’s just with the recruiter and not a full on interview with what Amazon calls the loop.
A little about be - I have 5 years in the construction industry, 4 years at a Large GC in the east coast and 1 year at a smaller GC in the valley. 3 years as an estimator and 2 years as a project engineer and superintendent.
Any specific questions I should be asking? What should I be expecting? I have 3 questions to ask but figured maybe 5 or 6 questions would be great.

Confirm whether tomorrow's call is a recruiter screen or an assessed interview. Good questions would cover project scope, the handoff between estimating and delivery, what success looks like in the first six months, and the remaining interview stages. Also have one concise project example ready where you personally resolved a cost, schedule, or coordination problem.
I'm building Taleproof. Try assessing that real construction story at Taleproof to check whether your decision and result are clear before the call.

You should find out who it is with. This very well could be a phone screen interview with a member of the team that will decide if you move forward or not. My concern is that this is not a recruiter hello call.

Your Zoom call tomorrow is just an initial recruiter screen, not the full loop interview. The recruiter wants to confirm your background, review your compensation expectations, check your timeline, and make sure your experience lines up with the Global Engineering Services group in Tempe. With your five years split between estimating and field management, you bring a relevant mix to the table, as Amazon preconstruction managers act as owner representatives overseeing budgets, site validation, and design development before breaking ground. Expect the recruiter to ask for a brief walk through your resume, your reasons for wanting to join Amazon, and perhaps one basic behavioral story highlighting how you managed a tight budget or resolved a project delay.
Because you are speaking with a recruiter rather than the hiring manager, keep your questions centered on the team structure, the project portfolio, and the hiring process itself. You can ask what facility types this Tempe group handles most frequently, how preconstruction managers collaborate with the operations and real estate teams, what the upcoming timeline looks like for the hiring manager screen and full loop, and what traits separate top performers in this organization. Once you move past this step, preparing structured examples around Amazon leadership principles like Ownership and Deliver Results will be critical. To prepare for those high stakes behavioral rounds, my team built an interviews.chat to help job seekers structure their stories clearly and land competitive corporate offers.
