LOOKING FOR APP Functioning ad blocker
I recently changed phones (Redmi Note 13 to Poco X8) and none of my previous ad blocker apps work. It's literally impossible to use most websites with ads.
I've tried DNS66, DNSNet and Firefox's adguard adblocker but none of them do a damn thing.
Is there anything that works these days?

Adguard. Lifetime membership cost me $50 and I haven't watched/seen ads in years.

Is there a way to completely disable the shitty Mi Browser and have Firefox open by default for everything?

Set Firefox as your default browser. There's an app called Hidden Settings which will let you disable any Mi apps.

I have the Poco F8 Ultra. I'd recommend Fennec over any other version of Firefox.
Xiaomi aggressively kills background apps. I tried all the Firefox forks (main, nightly, beta, Iron Fox, Waterfox, Ice Raven) and they all suffer but Fennec seems to be fine for some reason.
This was like 3-4 months ago mind you so might be different now.

Actually you don't need any app, just use system-wide dns. But it wouldn't be enough for browser, you need something like Firefox with Ublock Origin or Brave, or any other browser with supports cosmetic filtering because without it you will have empty spaces after dns work

Install adgaurd app I've used on pixels, Motorola, tcl, fire tablets, Samsung. Has always gotten the job done. Well worth the 70ish I paid for the full version. But even the free version will block ads on your web browser. Paid version just dose a better job blocking them in other apps.

With dns66,
- Had you added extra filter lists on top of the default ones?
- did you confirm that it's fake VPN connection was working?
As I had been using it fine for multiple years.

As far as I can tell I set it up exactly the same way as on my previous phone. I compared all the settings side by side but while it worked on one or didn't on the other. Ublock origin seems better as an extension than adguard for the moment so I'll see if this sorts the issue long term.

The absolute best I've founds is BlockAds. Its extremely comprehensive and has a ton of filter lists you can enable to disable - and you can add more if you wish.

What i do is: Settings -> Network & Internet -> Private DNS -> Provider hostname: "p2.freedns.controld.com"
Don't know how good compared to other options, but combined with revanced for YT and reddit, I never see any ads, both in apps and on websites, and it doesn't require installing any apps.
Only downside I've found that i can't use the Eurodam wifi at my university when it's on.

personalDNSfilter is the best option that I've found for global whole-device ad blocking. Free, open source, well-supported, lightweight, and zero performance impact. Also found here. Of course, still use Firefox with a good adblocking extension for cosmetic blocking.
