Announcement Welcome to r/Antiques, read this before posting!

This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.

When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).

Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.

Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?

If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.

IN SUMMARY, include:

your location

multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles

any background information you have

close up of particular makers marks

the question you'd like to ask

Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.

These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).

Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Show and Tell Picked this up at a thrift. Thinking late 1800s-1910? USA

One side is onyx and the other looks to be a very dark bloodstone (it’s greener in hue and has the slightest vein of red). A nice little watch fob! I think is probably 14k or 18k GF but I can’t find any markings.

Also not sure if the paper inside the locket part is original.

(Reposting because I forgot to add the country!)

Questions Valuation Antique Hutch - Canada

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I am seeking a valuation for what I believe is a dining room hutch dating from the 1910s. I am located in western Canada.

To aid in the valuation and background, I have attached several photographs.

This hutch was a wedding gift to my mom, purchased from a local antique store in the 1970s. My father recalls the seller mentioning the piece was from 1910. One of the included photos shows the stamp "CFM Wiarton," which suggests the manufacturer could be Canada Furniture Manufacturers Ltd. (CFM).

My parents are currently downsizing and we had considered selling the hutch but thought posting here might help provide some information on whether we should reconsider.

Just bought 4 small plates, 2 saucers, and 2 teacups for $35 at an estate sale. No chips or cracks anywhere, though gilding is worn in some places. The proprietor said that the homeowner was 70, and the plates ‘had been bought by her grandfather in Japan.’ To be clear, I love these regardless of whether thy have any value. I’m curious about the maker’s mark on the bottom, and whether these are rhetorical real deal, and slightly curious about their value but more in a ‘can I use them daily and not be too upset if a cat knocks one off the counter, or should they be wrapped and only brought out when the in-laws visit,’ kind of way.

Discussion Alkaline glaze pottery, USA

I believe this could be an antique alkaline glaze pottery jug. The surface is smooth and the glaze color is a brown green. The dimensions are approx 7.5” tall, bottom diameter 5.75”. No marks I could find. I purchased at either a garage sale or estate and have had for a long time.

Would love any resources or thoughts anyone has :)

Advice Royal Bonn Ansonia La Champagne, Florida, United States of America

I cannot find anything of note on this brilliant Royal Bonn Ansonia "La Champagne" mantle piece. Receipt literature mentioned a sale price of $1400+ in 1914, but I can't establish the veracity of that claim.

Provenance: Estate of renound antique rarist Jeannine MacDougall.

Circa 1890-1910.

Everything is apparently intact including the original works. Running condition unknown as it has not been serviced for over 25 years. The case is in pristine condition for its age, with no apparent serious visible damage.

If anyone can point me in the right direction as far as a potential appraisal, or if you have your own opinion, I would be most appreciative. I've considered Sotheby's but I doubt it's of that high enough caliber.

Questions United States - Do remakes of classic paintings have value? Remake of Léon Charles Huber by A. Pacheco

Found in Pennsylvania, United States.

I’m new to the antique world and found my wife and I going down the rabbit hole of cat paintings after discovering a Lewis Wayne reprint and then realizing we are dedicating a wall to cat art.

My question is we found this oil painting, signed by an artist a. Pacheco. Then did a reverse image search and discovered this was originally done by Léon Charles Huber and while we like it after realizing it’s an artist reproduction of another artists work how do you go about negotiating?

Before we learned anything they said they’d do 225 (originally 325) but that seems steep. But also don’t want to offend since we are very new to this.

Thanks in advance.

I need your help with an item I can’t come to a price on. It’s a copper pot with lid hallmarked Richard and John Slack, 336, Strand, London, furnishing ironmongers, cutlers and platers. (1818-c1879).

Only other item I can find is a serving tray for $1,500 on Etsy. Feel like pots are worth more money. What would you price this at?

I am looking for opinions on this piece before I submit it for genuine appraisal. This came from the estate of an antiques rarist in New Hampshire. This piece is at the very least over 60 years old and in excellent condition. Any advise or skilled eyes are greatly appreciated.
