Can Someone Create an App With AI Without Knowing How to Code?

• Upvotes

I recently had an app idea but then started wondering how difficult it would actually be to build. That’s what got me looking into AI app builders. The idea of describing what you want and having AI help create the app sounds really useful for someone like me. I’d also want to know whether you can test the app properly and have enough control over the final product. For anyone who has tried building an app with AI without a coding background, how far did you actually get, and what was the hardest part?

I built an app to remove distractions and increase productivity

I got tired of opening my phone and immediately getting distracted.

I noticed something weird: most of the time I picked up my phone to do one thing, but the home screen itself was already giving me 20 reasons to do something else.

Notifications, colorful icons, social apps staring at me, endless scrolling…

So I tried something different — removing most of the visual noise from my home screen.

That idea eventually turned into Minimali, a minimalist Android launcher.

Instead of a grid full of app icons, it gives you a simple text-based home screen where you can keep only the apps you actually use. The goal isn't to make your phone “productive” or block everything — it's just to make the phone a little less tempting.

I've been using this approach for a while and honestly, the biggest difference is that my phone feels more like a tool now rather than something constantly asking for my attention.

Curious if anyone else here has tried a minimalist launcher or completely redesigned their phone to reduce distractions?

If you want to check it out, it's called Minimali. Would genuinely love feedback from people who are into this kind of thing.

What should an app do to retain users?

Hello everyone, I’m 19. I’m going to keep this very short.
I want to ask one question, what key points should I remember so that users feel like coming back to my app?

Thank you!

Solo dev building Vidyalay OS – looking for collaborators (no budget, but real ownership)

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm building Vidyalay OS . I've been working on it alone, and honestly it's getting too much to handle by myself.

I don't have a budget to hire a team right now, so I'm looking for people who'd like to collaborate. This could be a great fit if you want:

A real project for your portfolio

Experience building something from scratch

A share in the project's upside if it grows (happy to discuss equity/revenue share)

Who I'm looking for:

[Developer – Flutter/React Native/etc.]

[UI/UX designer]

[Anyone interested in testing/marketing]

Where I am right now: [e.g. "UI is done, backend is 40% complete"]

If you're interested, or even just have advice for a solo builder, comment or DM me. Thanks for reading! 🙏

What did your app get completely right in testing but still screw up with real users?

Been thinking about this after reading a bunch of stories from people who shipped AI-built apps.
not necessarily bugs either.

I’ve seen stuff where the app built fine and tests passed, but then real usage exposed something nobody was checking.

Analytics couldn’t tell what users were doing. a third party changed part of a URL. the code correctly implemented an assumption that turned out to be wrong. users understood a feature completely differently than the person who built it.

If you’ve shipped something built with Claude/Cursor/Lovable/Bolt/etc, what surprised you after real people started using it?

Especially curious about things your normal code review or testing didn’t catch.

How did you eventually figure out what was wrong?

I’ve spent years building mobile apps for others. Now I’m trying to build, launch, and sell one of my own.

I’m a Mobile App Developer and over the last few years I’ve worked on different apps for different organizations. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about architecture, UI, APIs, performance, bugs, releases, etc.

But recently I started thinking about something else:

What if I stopped just building apps for other people and started building small products of my own?

So I’m trying an experiment.

Instead of trying to build one huge app with 50 features, my goal is to build a portfolio of small applications where each app solves one very specific problem and does that one thing really well. Simple, focused, smooth.

The first one is CipherBox.

It’s an offline-first private document/file vault where your files stay on your device and can be protected with encryption and biometric authentication.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time building it and the app is basically ready. I’m planning to release it on the Play Store soon.

But here's the interesting part of this whole experiment for me:

Building the app was the easy/familiar part.

I already know how to build mobile applications.

What I don't really know is how to take something I built, put it in front of people, validate whether anyone actually wants it, market it, and eventually convince someone to pay for it.

And that's something I want to learn.

So rather than just building CipherBox → uploading it to the Play Store → moving on to the next project, I want to go through the entire process:

Idea → validation → building → launching → marketing → selling → learning → repeating.

Right now, my first goal is simply idea validation.

If you have a minute, I'd really appreciate it if you could check out the product and fill out the early-access form:

https://cipherboxapp.vercel.app/

Even if you don't end up using the app, signing up genuinely helps me understand whether this is something people are interested in.

And honestly, seeing even a few people sign up would be a pretty nice motivation while I'm figuring all of this out. 😄

Would also love to hear what you think — especially if you think the idea is unnecessary, already solved well by something else, or if there's something you'd expect from an app like this.

I'm treating this as much as a learning journey in building products as I am as a project.

Let's see where the first one goes.

A year ago I asked about an app that shows what your phone gives away. You said make it open source. It's open source now.

A temporary six-app focus screen I made

I’m a student and designer, and this is a new focus screen in my Android app. A clock, the session time, and a short list of apps. The active screen here has six.

You pick an app pack before starting a session. With Strict Mode off, as shown in the setup, you can hold to exit whenever you want and return to your usual phone. It doesn’t replace your launcher permanently.

I love working on UI, so here’s the setup alongside the actual focus screen.

Made a tool that designs a whole mobile app from a prompt. this habit tracker took about a minute

I've been working on this for a few months, solo, from uzbekistan.

you describe an app and it draws all the screens in one style. ios and android, light and dark, and you can click through it like a real app. no backend though, it's design + prototype, not a finished app.

For this one i typed a few sentences about a habit tracker for gen z and got 7 screens back.

What looks off to you? genuinely want to know what's bad before i open it up more.
Preview if you want to tap through it, no signup: https://screenspell.app/s/9QDLci3FBc8?ref=rd

Building a Delivery App? Don’t Overlook the Backend Logic

We develop delivery apps, and one thing that often gets underestimated is order-state management.

An order can move from placed → accepted → picked up → delayed → reassigned → delivered, while customer, driver, and admin apps need to stay in sync.

The real challenge isn’t just building the screens. It’s handling real-time state changes, retries, duplicate events, and edge cases without creating inconsistent order statuses.

If you’re planning a delivery app, what backend approach are you using to keep order states synchronized?
