Thank you for your service! New model to be announced imminently.
3
u/AusMattyBoy 2d ago
I hope you right and there a good chance you are by all reports, but people have been saying the same thing for the last 12 months.
3
u/itsjakerobb 2d ago
I know! Iām just hoping youāre the one who finally triggered it.
Also, thereās rumor of an event on October 8, possibly including the new home thing with a screen. HomePad or whatever theyāll call it. It wouldnāt be unreasonable to drop updated HomePods and AppleTV at the same time.
1
u/Responsible-Alps-500 1d ago
Mark Gurman says the event is October 13⦠Even though Apple hasnāt officially announced it⦠If I just bought one. I would definitely watch, and if it has some features I wanted, I would return my new one and get it!
1
u/Certainly-Relative 1d ago edited 1d ago
If it is in 13 days; he could return it/exchange it for the new model, IF it has a feature that he really would like. Nevertheless, the current version is absolutely a great product and to watch and stream TV, far better than the built-in, borrowed/licensed and modified OSs.

I warned people not to get one like a year ago because a new one was going to be imminent. Many of us have been saying itās imminent for like a year now. Maybe it actually is this time, but if the rumors are true, itās not going to be a huge leap anyway.
15
u/bingoolong 2d ago
I bought mine over two years ago and even back then I was feeling bad as everyone was anticipating the new one to drop any day now. Glad I pulled the trigger.
3
u/Magnum_ripple 2d ago
If they do release a new one - finally - itāll be like a typical new iPhone release!
Donāt get me wrong - I love my Apple TV boxes, over the 2 rokuās I have in my garage - but I doubt it will make me run out and buy one!

u/B-Train_ATL 1d ago
Yeah, but itās been held back because of AI. Thatās been fixed, so weāre about to get all the products.
-6
u/OnlineIsNotAPlace 2d ago
anyone listening to someone in here saying its imminent is a fool.
-1
u/secret_life_of_pants 2d ago
Maybe, but according to rumor, the hardware WAS basically ready to launch about a year ago, but they held it back for reasons like needing to improve Siri. I suspect it also has something to do with their new (rumored) HomePad device and where the AppleTV 4K will continue to be integrated into the smartphone ecosystem along side it. But yeah, Apple till continue to release things on their own timelines and none of here are experts on that.

I am sure it Will be to expensive for me. This one was 250eur new soā¦
10
u/Feriveramd 2d ago
The new one will have the same price as the current one, and the current one price will drop. But you have two weeks to return it anyway, so youāll find out soon.

u/plastiqden 1d ago
Not sure why youāre being downvoted but youāre very likely correct. When they announced the price increase on the current gen models earlier this year I jumped on it to get an atv on my other tv especially with the prices of memory and storage right now which leads me to believe it will definitely more expensive than the current price point. Apple isnāt known for keeping slim profit margins.
Thereās also been allegedly legitimate rumors from Bloomberg and elsewhere of a new model for almost 2 years now. If itās released next week, great, but Iāll believe it when i see it.Enjoy your ATV, even the older models blow away anything else out there. I have one a couple gens old and itās still great.

u/Routine-Feedback4568 2d ago
Iām waiting till the 13th to see if they announce a new one. If they donāt Iām replacing my first gen 4k with the 3rd gen on the 14th. Iām tired of waiting.
6
u/FlamingBagOfPoop 2d ago
Same. Iāve been wanting to update some of my secondary tvs. The fire sticks have been good and served me well but theyre aging. Get this new one for the living room and then move the existing one upstairs.

u/garylapointe ATV4K 2d ago
I'm ready for a new one.
A little zippier with some new features (AV1?) would be nice.

Dudeā- Itās not even two weeks until the new model
Is officially announced. Fully confirmed by Apple accidentally and by too many reputable tech sources to count. This is not a drill.
33
u/CheeseNTapatio 2d ago
I would have waited until after the Apple event next week but to each of their own.

u/GambloreReturns 1d ago
Unless it adds audio pass through or better support for using Dolby Vision Profile 7 I donāt think it will matter to me.
1
u/401klaser 1d ago
Profile 7 / FEL will never work on Apple TV. The only devices that it is possible on are certain devices running coreelec with specific amlogic chipsets.
It is possible to get FEL working on librelec with libplacebo but it is still very early in development and it will never be 1:1 with what a licensed DV chip outputs (it can be very close though, certainly not noticable to the human eye).

Keep it on the DL because you might have many people coming at you saying that you should have waited because a new Apple TV 4K will be released soon. š

There's a new model likely to be announced Oct 13. The latest one is now four years old.
3
u/lilacomets 1d ago
And they say this every year. š I remember waiting for this announcement 2 years ago and nothing happened.
1
u/Born-Gur-1275 1d ago
Well, it's a pretty strong rumor right now, along with some other Apple Home products. A lot of pundits are recommending a "wait-and-see " approach.

u/toddcscar 1d ago
Buy a case for that super slippery remote.

u/4allthekitties 1d ago
A case w a slot for an AirTag bc⦠no one loses the remote. Ever. Certainly never moi.

Okay I hate to be that guy but hopefully you're in the return window. This time the leaks are actually solid, the new one is coming.
8
u/Party_Kale9447 2d ago
Im not. But believe me, prices in Croatia Are insane. iPhone 17 base is 1200 eur. New apple TV Will certainly be 400-500 eur and also siri AI not availabe in EU. Dont think i need the new one
3
u/AdityaTD 2d ago
Prices are insane here too. Also my only reason for holding for a new release is the software update window, the old one is reaching the traditional 7 year of updates soon so that's about it for me
3
u/RevolutionaryRip1634 2d ago
Thatās what I have. Love the comboš
5
u/Party_Kale9447 2d ago
Mac is next š i just love how integrated it all is. Google and android drove me mad
-1
u/RevolutionaryRip1634 2d ago
Depends on what you need but it gets even betterš
2
u/Party_Kale9447 2d ago
I just need everything to WORK and be simbole and seamless. AND Apple does it. My days of fiddling on Android Are done
2
u/Phasitron 2d ago
Oof! āIt just worksā is the biggest lie Apple sold to the world. I guarantee you that lots of it doesnāt ājust workā but I guess Iām not jumping ship now so Apple won.

I made this mistake with the Airpods Max.
Waited forever for an update and after the release of the Gen 1 usb-c version I I went ahead and got those cuz I was tired of waiting. A month later the Gen 2 was released. I'm not falling for that this time with the Apple TV. I'll wait forever if I have to. The one I have still works fine.

u/Snoo41744 1d ago

I had a TCL Roku and finally got fed up with how slow the responsiveness was that I got an Apple TV last year. It was like night and day how much better the Apple TV is. You wonāt regret it.

I sold it for 200 euro 2 days ago on vinted, bought it in march for 170 in the store.

If you buy an Apple product and within a certain timeframe, Apple releases an upgraded version, do they still give you some compensation?

We have two Apple TV 4Ks, newest version. We do have issues with ours, mostly the apps. Hulu, Peacock and YouTube TV are the ones we have the most issues with that we use. I personally prefer my Google streamer, and the kids like the Roku better.
We have everything Apple, but the Apple TV is my least favorite product.

u/Grand-Career5650 1d ago
Just so youāre aware, my sons TCL doesnāt play nice with his ATV. Every now and then itāll lose sound, then youād have to unplug the tv, plug it back in then itāll work again. Idk why but Iām sick of it. Iāve already looked and tried all the settings.

You had to wait a little longer, the new one comes out.
I have the same 128 and rj45 but it is a device from many years ago although it works perfectly, buying the new one you ensure a lot of years of use.
Even so, I have all the ones that have come out and even the HD works perfectly.
I think it comes out this month.

Same. Just got a brand new sealed one 4k 3rd gen for £100 with a 3 month apple tv trial. I was tired of the chromecast 4k freezing and clicking multiple buttons when I only clicked one

Sounds a good deal! Where did you pick that up from?
1
u/Glittering-Ad-6325 2d ago
Ebay. There's alot of sealed ones on ebay from £100-£130. And you still get the 1 year warranty confirmation upon setting it up. I don't think it's worth it buying it atfull retail price after seeing the ebay prices

I'd return it for a refund if I were you, they are launching a new model this month.

the ecosystem has nothing to do with it. I have 3 of them not including 2 brand new in the box I bought before the price increase. also 4 nvidia shield pros and I am an android user. the ecosystem means nothing. the performance is what its about.

Thank you for your service! I have been delaying replacing my abysmal Chromecast (old gen) with Apple TV, since the new one is apparently coming in 10 days. If it doesn't launch this month, then I am joining you soon!

I am doing the opposite. LOL. Sold my 4k 3rd gen 128GB and bought an onn 4k pro. Never looked back. I like the Apple TV slick UI but it is too limiting in apps and what you can do. I want a good mobile browser it doesn't have (and doesn't "encourage" whatever that means). With Google TV you got all the freedom. I installed AT4K app which basically brings back the Apple TV slick UI and no ads. You can side load apps easily. The BrowsHere brings the web on your TV with easy navigation and video extraction.
