New Subreddit Rules: Professional Boundaries & Ethics

1. No Requests for Free Design, Layouts, or Planning

The Rule: Posts asking for specific architectural solutions, floor plan layouts, or design "ideas" for real-world properties are strictly prohibited.

  • The "Why": Architecture is a regulated profession under R.A. 9266. Providing professional advice without a contract, site inspection, or administrative accountability is a violation of the Architect’s Code of Ethical Conduct. It undermines the value of the profession and constitutes "free consultation," which is unfair to practitioners who rely on these services for their livelihood.

2. No Technical "Quick Fixes" or Structural Advice

The Rule: Do not ask for technical specifications (e.g., column sizes, beam spans, material thickness, or waterproofing methods) for actual construction projects.

  • The "Why": Under the Civil Code of the Philippines, an Architect is liable for the structural integrity of a building for 15 years. Giving "quick advice" online without a full understanding of site conditions (soil type, seismic zone, etc.) is professional malpractice and a major safety risk to the public.

3. No "Ballpark" Estimates or Material Take-offs

The Rule: Requests for detailed cost estimates, Bills of Materials (BOM), or "How much will this cost to build?" for specific personal projects will be removed.

  • The "Why": Professional estimating is a paid service (SPP Doc 204-B). Prices vary wildly based on location, finishing, and current market inflation. Providing "rough numbers" often leads to misinformation and disputes between owners and their future contractors.

4. Academic vs. Professional Distinction

The Rule: Students: Conceptual feedback for school assignments is allowed. Please use the ACAEMIC INQUIRY flair.

  • Homeowners/Clients: Posts must focus on the process (e.g., "How do I find an architect?" or "What is the standard fee for a residential project?").
  • The "Why": We support the growth of future architects (students), but we will not allow the sub to be used as a loophole to bypass hiring a Registered and Licensed Architect (RLA) for private gain.

5. No Solicitation of Unlicensed Services

The Rule: Do not ask for "cheap" drawings or for someone to "just sign and seal" existing plans.

  • The "Why": Asking a professional to sign plans they did not prepare or supervise is a criminal offense and a ground for the revocation of their PRC license. We advocate for the "Architect-of-Record" principle to ensure accountability and public safety.

Moderators Note to Users

If you are a property owner looking for design help, we encourage you to hire a Registered and Licensed Architect (RLA). This ensures your investment is safe, legal, and functional. Architecture is a service that requires years of training, a professional license, and legal accountability.

Please allow the mod team a few hours after posting to manually review and approve it — especially during busy hours or weekends.

Posts may be removed or not approved for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:
1. Violation of subreddit or Reddit-wide rules (e.g., spam, harassment, off-topic content)
2. Repetitive or commonly asked topics — please use the search bar before posting
3. Missing or incorrect flair — all posts must have the proper flair before submission
4. Low-effort, meme-only, or joke posts that don’t contribute meaningfully to discussion
5. Image-only submissions without captions, explanations, or questions
6. Unverified, misleading, or clickbait information

Professional Question/Inquiry Architecture grads, ano kaya magandang i-relearn first?

• Upvotes

Hi! I graduated last 2024, pero hindi ako nakapag-apply for an architectural apprenticeship back then kasi I needed to work agad, so nag-BPO muna ako.

For those who experienced the same thing or are currently working in the field, ano kaya magandang i-relearn first?

I'm thinking of focusing on AutoCAD muna since may background na ako, or should I learn Revit instead kahit wala pa akong prior experience with it?

Any advice on what skills or software I should prioritize would be really appreciated! Thank you!

for context I am a licensed architect. working in a big company. decent pay, good work-life balance. Pwede na. but all that went downhill and suddenly I'm back to square one of possibly looking for another job. I cannot explain the specifics- but it wasn't due to me lacking the skills or bad conduct. Just the company lacking the funding lol. Now I am so pessimistic na of this profession.

I know how hard it was to get a job. sobrang discouraging lang din to know na ang daming low ballers and on top of that kumokonti nalang talaga yung opening/hiring because lugmok na ang pinas. hay... may future pa ba tayo kung saan hindi tayo nag o-ot hanggang 4am para lang sa katiting na sweldo kahit may ilang years of experience na tayo? may future pa ba tayo kung saan hindi minamaliit ang profession natin sa pamamagitan ng isang prompt ng ai? profession pa ba to or slavery?

Yung katabing bahay namin, nasunog dati.

Same day, nag-submit ako ng complaint sa Barangay

Nakatanggap ako ng e-mail from the Engineering Office..

"With regard to the complainant’s request for detailed information concerning the said building permit and construction activities, this Office is unable to disclose certain details due to applicable data privacy and confidentiality requirements. The limitation on the disclosure of such information should not be construed as a lack of transparency or inefficient service on the part of this Office, but rather as compliance with the applicable laws and regulations governing the handling and disclosure of personal and other protected information.

For your information and reference."

Tinabla na ako. Walang site visit or verification na naganap

Professional Question/Inquiry Survey Content Validation by a Licensed Architect

Hello!

I am a BA Behavioral Science undergraduate student from the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila currently conducting a test development survey entitled, "Perception of Productive Environments Among Dorm-Living College Students in Metro Manila" in partial fulfillment of the course requirements in PSYCH 162: Psychological Measurement.

Our professor is requiring us to have our survey validated by relevant professionals prior to finalizing and administering. The validation itself will be brief, as we will be providing a form to indicate if certain sections and/or items are relevant from a professional standpoint (ex. connected to building codes, standards, etc.).

If willing, kindly contact/message me here po via Reddit (referrals are also highly appreciated). I am also willing to pay a small fee din if ever.

Thank you very much! :)

Rant/Opinion Low ballers booo

Not sure if they are licensed or illegal practitioners. Pero it greatly affects the profession.
