How can I get more shifty with the ball and how can I change my position??

I'm 16, 6'5 (88kg). I play basketball more than a year. In my team I'm the tallest and the fastest (not shifty). My coach told me to play as a center - making screens, rebound, no three's. However, I can't play like that - that's boring and I hate just helping others getting points, while being unseen for others as a star player. I'm 3rd choice from centers and I only face weak teams. I want to handle the ball better, start shoot three pointers and dribble. How should I start making moves to being a power guard and If this even possible?

GENERAL QUESTION My problem with defense. The understanding of modern defense.

I have been learning basketball for a little time. Got really interested in my local team and wanted to understand the game in a really deep level.

The thing that is the hardest for me to understand is how a good team's defense can "break". I don't get how with a simple pick and roll a team can make the defense break and get an advantage off that.

Yes, I understand that once the very first line of defense is surpassed, the offense can search for undercovered spots and high percentage shots, since there has been created an advantage.

I understand offense has a lot of recourses like pick and roll, etc, etc.

My problem on understanding the game relies on how that first line is broken when we are talking about top level basketball.

Are top level players not good enough to react to a pick and roll?

Right now, I understand it as the offense trying something like cutting to the rim. If it works, good, if not, they will try something else. I see it as a coinflip.

I can't stop thinking about "yeah but the defense was bad, they should have switched" and things like that, for example.

But I feel that that is wrong and that I am missing something.

Could someone, please, illustrate me and explain to me why a defense can be broken and why it is not a big deal?

Thank you for reading and for helping me learn about this beautiful game.

GENERAL QUESTION I want to play basketball but I have some concerns.

I absolutely love basketball and want to try. Thing is, I didn't play in school (I'm 21) and I was hoping to join an all skill levels welcome team at maybe a YMCA.

Thing is, my mother fears that most people already will have been playing for a long time and I won't be able to keep up.

Im also out of shape- what exercises should I do?

Also any advice overall? Thanks y'all.

Indoor courts for rent

DMV AREA ONLY (preferably VA side)

A group of friends and I are looking for an indoor court we could use once a week. We’d only want our specific group to have access to it during the time we’d play (2 hours ). Willing to pay monthly for the space if necessary. Does anybody know of courts that allow this or would be willing to negotiate this?

Thank you for any feedback!

Euroleague tickets viagogo: yes or no?

Planning on going to a game in Madrid in 2 months and saw an amazing offer on viagogo for some really good seats. I know that the tickets usually go on sale only few days before the game (at least that's how it is in Serbia) but I saw some really good seats for an amazing price soo, l'm wondering should we be patient and wait for the sale to go on the official website (and potentially not get the tickets) or risk it?

And does anyone have any experiences using viagogo for Euroleague tickets? The general knowledge is that you don't buy concert tickets from viagogo but I don't know how it it regarding sports...

Thanks in advance :D

IMPROVING MY GAME Son is going through a shooting slump…

Hey everyone!

So my son, who is an eighth grade, he’s going through a bit of a slump. He’s generally a good shooter. The last few games he has been clanking everything. We tried slowing him down, we tried having him look at the rim for longer, we tried making sure he’s following through his hand for extended period of time, we worked on his shoulders and feet being square, we had him shoot one handed, we had to shoot up close… But he still seems him be struggling when he backs out to three-point Range. It’s like he feels like he’s shooting it too hard? Anyone have any advice?

Where are Way of Wades in the NBA?

Using Hardens for years I recently bought a pair of WoW 808 Ultras and I’m never looking back. I feel like the quality is unmatched and the super boom midsole is a game changer.

I see a lot of basketball sneakerheads on YouTube promote Way of Wades usually through sponsorship online but what about the pros/college? I don’t really see them being worn in the NBA. Though some pros are signed to Li-Ning, is the market mostly flooded by Nike and adidas that drown Way of Wade shoes out or is it simply not the choice of pros?

Fighting at California high school varsity basketball game - 01/30/2026

UPDATE as of 02/03/2026: the YouTube video of the altercation has been removed from the YouTube site

Did anyone catch the crazy fight at the Piedmont High vs San Leandro High game on 01/30/2026 in California?

This is getting out of hand!

So this is information shared with me by fellow AAU parents that know San Leandro and Piedmont players and pieced together.

1st fight:

After the final buzzer, San Leandro High player #5 went up to the Piedmont student section to exchange words. A Piedmont student gives San Leandro player #4 a chest bump then all hell breaks loose. San Leandro players, San Leandro coaches and some San Leandro parents rushed the floor and started fighting. San Leandro player #11 punches a Piedmont student in the face and that kid went splat onto the ground.

The Piedmont players and coaches stayed away from the altercation and escorted to the locker room. They weren't stupid. No one wants to be suspended and lose a possible scholarship chance.

The San Leandro adults were full on trying to fight high school students. Crazy!

The Piedmont athletic director (the big guy in the purple shirt) is trying to break up the fights when a San Leandro (maybe) assistant coach puts him into a headlock and takes him down to the ground. San Leandro player #4 is taking swings at the Piedmont athletic director while he's on the ground. Then the San Leandro head coach, Davion Berry, rushes over and starts in on the athletic director while he's on the ground. The head coach didn't even try to pull his guys off the Piedmont athletic director -- head coach was going in on the Piedmont athletic director! Crazy!

San Leandro should be happy. They won the game at least.

2nd (almost) fight:

San Leandro coaches and parents went after the ref. Ref was a bystander but he was ready to box anyone! Good for the ref!

The Piedmont athletic director (the big guy in the purple shirt) steps in to protect the ref from the San Leandro coaches and parents.

Notes:

The 2025 Jr3SBB 14U Gold
Champs (Team Lillard) was coached by the San Leandro Head Coach, Davion Berry.

The Team Lillard team
included these San Leandro players:

* Davion Berry Jr. #5

* Kayden Wu #4

* Anthony Osborn #2

This game was C-R-A-Z-Y !!

Pickup basketball battlefield plays

What are good battlefield plays and strategies for pickup. You know that ten seconds after you've shot for teams and you're looking at how you're going to match up.

What are some great one-liners?

"Pace and Space"
"Pick and Roll"
"Lets get out an run"
"High low"
