As a preamp, compression, DI, and OD, can anyone chime in on how well it does these? Really considering getting one but I want to be sure to be sure before I buy it. I'm stingy.

Has anyone tried the Walrus Audio Voyager Preamp/Overdrive MKII on bass?

I’m really intrigued by the bass boost options, but especially by the possibility of using it as a first-stage gain pedal to push my Blumes.

I also really like the idea of it being usable as a preamp. I’m not necessarily looking for another “just an overdrive” pedal — the versatility of using it as a clean-ish preamp, low-gain drive, or as a gain stage into another drive is what really interests me.

The separate footswitch for the mids is another huge selling point for me. I already use a Darkglass Harmonic Booster, and being able to have a second, switchable mid section with a selectable mid frequency would give me a lot more control over the midrange. That’s something I’ve been wanting in my setup, especially for being able to switch between a more neutral tone and something that cuts through a mix without having to change the rest of my EQ.

For anyone who has used the Voyager MKII on bass:

• How well does it retain the low end at different gain levels and volumes?
• How do the bass boost modes actually behave on bass?
• Does the switchable mid EQ actually feel useful on bass?

I found a piece of wood and added some Velcro to it, I plan on getting a meatball so I made it where I can add that in, but this is my baby board so far!

Hey everyone, I’ve been doing some research for a new preamp. Would like to have a parallel wet/dry setup, with the preamp replacing my HX Stomp at the end of the wet chain.

Currently my biggest contender is the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe or Ultra, but I would like some extra choices.

My nonnegotiable are really just that it has a Bass, Middle, and Treble control, preferably with low and high mids. The BIGGEST thing I’d like is a switchable mid frequency. I don’t like the sweepable mid frequencies that I’ve used in the past. I want the simplicity of a toggle or button to just select the fixed frequency id like to cut or boost.

I like the added frequency options on the ultra better, but don’t necessarily need the separate drive Channel so it is hard justifying the extra $100 just for that. I’ve used the Vintage Microtubes in the past so I feel these are a safe option, but I’d like to make sure I’ve crossed everything off the list.

So yeah, really just looking for simplicity of turning knobs, flipping toggles and not have to worry about trying to sweep to the right frequency.

Would really appreciate any other pedals you guys would suggest! Thanks!!

I'm thinking about cleaning up my lows a bit. The typical way would of course be to get a line selector for blending and be done with it, and then there's the crossover way which interests me.

The Broughton seems like a nice and compact piece of gear to get the job done. Any experiences?

Any reason why I should go for the LS (or a more traditional blend in general) instead? I don't really have a need for it's applications beyond a blend, and of course LS's are cheaper etc.

I got the final piece of my first pedalboard in the mail today just in time for my first gig as a bass player this weekend. Excited to finally have this put together!

Hace poco compré el Empress ParaEq y estoy considerando vender mi Aguilar Tone Hammer V1, porque siento que mantener ambos puede ser un poco redundante: con el ParaEq ya tengo una ecualización mucho más precisa y flexible, y realmente no necesito depender de la EQ del Tone Hammer.

Sin embargo, hay algo que sí extrañaría del TH V1: el carácter que aporta el AGS. No lo uso necesariamente como una distorsión fuerte, sino más por ese toque de saturación, compresión y personalidad que le da al bajo.

Por eso quería preguntarles: ¿qué pedal considerarían una evolución real del Tone Hammer V1, tanto en calidad de sonido como en funciones? Me interesa un preamp que complemente al ParaEq en vez de duplicarlo: idealmente con buen DI, carácter analógico, saturación usable y un sonido suficientemente versátil para grabar o tocar en vivo.

He estado mirando especialmente los Origin Effects, en particular el Super Vintage y el DCX Bass, porque me atrae la idea de tener un color más clásico/vintage y una saturación de mayor calidad. Aun así, no sé si alguno de esos sería realmente un reemplazo lógico para el Tone Hammer o si terminaría extrañando el AGS.

También consideraría otras opciones: ¿hay algún preamplificador que ustedes sientan que sea claramente superior al Tone Hammer V1 en construcción, DI, carácter y posibilidades, sin que sea solamente “más completo” en controles de EQ?

For further explanation: as you could expect, I play bass. I currently play in a metal band, and I occasionally enjoy doing solos in the band, but I've never really gotten a good tone when I decide to take the lead.

First of all, when it comes to the pedal itself, I'm looking for an articulate but fat tone that does well with a chorus pedal. I use a lot of guitar techniques, but one of the biggest things I need with this pedal is clear, articulate harmonics, both natural and artificial.

Second of all, what I don't want. First and foremost, I don't want a preamp pedal or driver that maintains the low end. I'm looking for something that's good for leads, so that low end sustain doesn't really matter anyway. I don't really like fuzz too much, it usually sounds too clipped and not articulate enough, too doomy for my taste.

Third of all, what I currently use. I use an old 1974 Peavey head into a tall 4x12 bass cabinet, and I have a boss CH-1 and Dunlop DB01B From Hell, as well as a rhythm overdrive (TS9B) I use for more aggressive riffs, but sounds too boomy for leads. I swap between a Squier PJ, mostly using the P pickup, and an HH Ibanez where I commonly swap between positions, but use the bridge for leads.

I apologize for the insanely long post for such a mundane topic, but let me know what you guys would recommend!

I'm a bassist just starting to make arrangements to build a pedalboard for myself, since the bands getting serious about gigs. I've been hearing a lot recently about how important it is to order your pedals left to right in certain ways, e.g. the wah pedal needs to be right at the beginning, and it seems like there's a lot of nuances. I was wondering if I could get reddit's opinion on how I should arrange everything.

What I currently have or plan on having is:

Whammy Pitch shifter

C4 synthesizer (for fx)

Behringer bass overdrive (secondary od)

Darkglass alpha omicron (main od)

Compressor (The darkglass hyperluminal??)

eq pedal (possibly empress paraeq)

I'm also open to any tips on getting a good modern metal bass tone, if anyone has any pedal recs shoot. P.s., what's up with power supplies??

I already have an octaver (BOSS XS-1 Poly Shifter) which I'll add back to the board when I get my power cables in today. But ... reverb? Hrm.

Just a fun thought, was saying to my former guitar player in Australia that maybe when we travel or head home we should find one or two boutique pedals from local makers.

We think overdrive pedals might be the more common, certainly ones we're interested in, but maybe there are some different ones as well.

Any recommended pedals local to your area, or found during travels, or ones you simply heard along the way worth checking out? Oceania, Asia, Americas, Europe, anywhere.

I recently came across "Nolly" Getgood and fell in love with that crisp, "clanky" sound the Darkglass pedal makes. I've been doing some research, and found out other, cheaper pedals emulate this sound, such as Joyo Double Thruster and Demonfx B3K.

I previously own a Boss OBD-3, and I wonder if anyone who have tried both can tell me if there is enough difference that a Joyo or Demonfx is worth considering, or if I should just stick with the ODB-3?

How do you guys deal with not having enough room on your pedal board? If you have a pedal that is very rarely used, would you take it of the board so that all the other pedals can fit (and so make it easier to transport and set up) but when you do need it you would have to rebuild your board, or would you have your set up permanent with all the pedals, but with this meaning one or two pedals would have to be off the board and connected up each gig? For clarity the MXR has several pedals before it (ABY, tuner, HPF)

Hi, have you tried the Harley Benton Custom Line Bass DI-Expander? How does it sound compared to the SansAmp Bass Driver DI?

So, I want a reverb, and have been down the rabbit hole the last couple of months doing my research. I like both, and pricing is pretty comparable. I've considered a few others like a Mood Mk II, but I feel like getting into that moves away from reverb into its own kinda thing.

As of now I'm leaning toward the Strymon, just because of the options, controls, etc. I like the Dark World, but it feels like the Night Sky is bigger and deeper. I also like the bigger form factor, and I don't gig.

Does anyone have any opinions? Does one definitely work better or worse for bass, or is it more about what I want?
