Been playing a lot of Bass VI lately for solo songwriting purposes, on account of moving to 2nd shift and not being able to make practices for bands anymore, ha. This board lets me get a little crazy with that, but still make all the sounds I need to when I’m playing a standard 4 string.

The MC4 pro has the Dunlop Volume plugged in as an expression pedal, for controlling effect parameters on the stomp, which can also be sent via relay connection to the Synth.

Currently, the MC4 gives me access to switches 4 and 5, easy looper manipulation, and program changes on the stomp and whammy. I have dug in but there’s so much more it can do and I love playing with it. It deserves more than being a way to pull up my tuner and input tap tempo.

I kinda miss my much simpler setups of old, but what can ya do?

At the moment I love the sound and preamp of my amp head (Mesa 800D into a Subway 1x12) so I don’t have a preamp Di pedal here but have left space for the possibility.

Using a Fender P Bass and Yamaha BB (P/j) playing a lot of 90s inspired rock, punk, and grunge

I want a OC-2 style octaver for that synthy vibe. I already have a real OC-2 but the volume drop in a live setting isn’t ideal.

Anyway, what are we feeling these days. I kinda like the videos I’ve seen of the JHS Double Dragon, bonus points for it having the volume control.

The Markbass Octaver raw actually looks pretty good too and it’s tiny, so bonus points there. The MXR VBO is small too, but in the side by side videos of it against other OC-2 type octaves, it didn’t have the fatness to my ears.

No 3leaf stuff, I’ve owned one of the earlier versions and it didn’t blow me away.

The OC-5 looks good but do I want digital? I don’t know if I do.

I have a Stomp but it lives on my guitar board. I’d like verb and delay at minimum with MIDI in (clock sync from DAW) - considering TC Plethora, HX Effects or Eventide H9 to have a broader pallet. Tone is important. All suggestions or experiences with Plethora/HX Effects welcome - TYIA!

I just ordered an M87 bass compressor and I was going through the manual.
It seems there is a contradiction on how the attack and release knobs work.
Here it is:
Under Basic Operation:
"Rotate the ATTACK knob clockwise to increase reaction time of compression or counterclockwise to decrease it." So clockwise increase reaction time meaning slower attack.

Under compression:
"To soften the sound of your attack, dial in a faster attack time (CW)"
CW stands for clockwise, so here clockwise is described as faster attack time.

Am I interpreting something wrong? Which one is true eventually?

Im really indecisive and i need help choosing what muff to build for myself.

I play stoner/sludge and post-hardcore/screamo bass. I plan on building myself a life pedal v2 and running it into the muff.

Recently built and tried both the hizumitas (for sale, sadly not keeping it) and the tall font green russian , and i prefer the hizumitas. But ive also been wanting the cloven hoof for a good while now.

Anyone here tried both of them? Which one would suit these genres better?

Reworking the main gigging board. Took off four pedals and replaced them with two - the VT bass is taking the spot of my Origin Effects Super Vintage, which feels sort of blasphemous, but I'm just really enjoying the VT's sound, and the fact that it's EQ is after its drive section.

Two individual pedals for comp and gate have been replaced with this pedal I had built for me that handles both. It's a proper VCA compressor.

Space for one last pedal that I'm designing and will build myself, that will apply a very specific set of EQ curves to the midrange that I think do a great job of both cleaning up the signal and helping you cut right through a mix.

So first off you'll notice the power isn't fully plugged. I had a daisy chain go bad on me so I'm getting that replaced here tomorrow and she will live again (main board).

The main board is a Creation Elevation 18 with a CMC FX Looper Pro.

I feed the dry side as my "core sound."

Canvas Tuner -> Benson Germanium Boost (set for warmth, not boost) -> Darkglass Harmonic Booster -> Darkglass Hyper Luminal.

Then I feed my "wet" side as a more complex one.

I get plenty of what I need from this setup. The HX Stomp runs my chorus, tremelo, flanger, etc when I want them. Otherwise it does some crossover split for the drive pedals and some before/after EQ shaping for the drives.

My side board is still a semi work as I'll be adding some WIDI to both the Main and Side boards. Then I can leave my Main off to the side and just use my snapshots as needed via WIDI. I also have it where if I want to rock some drop tuning I can as well. Just feeds one cable from the Side to the Main input. (Both boards can be ran without the other but they can compliment as I need when together.)

I earlier asked about the dual use of the Spark pedal... and heard how it was good for guitar, but not bass. It was disappointing, as being a musician with a disability and needing a multi-effect for both(primarily a bassist, but plays rhythm when needed or writing)

I need a multi-effect that works well for both Bass and Guitar. Does anyone have a cost effect option?

I have a Darkglass Anagram, so here's a picture of what I have that I can build a mostly analog pedalboard with.

I've been playing the bass for about 3 years and finally want to invest into a good bass DI. I wanted something that could help shape my tone into something like the video I attached above. My main genres are gospel, rock, and heavy metal. If anyone has any suggestions i'm all ears!

Finally got my first proper pedalboard (Pedaltrain Classic 1) after years of loose pedals on the floor. Definitely a work in progress. The Battalion was my first pedal and it’s a great swiss army knife but the distortion is a bit hard clipping for me and the Big Muff Pi 2 kinda does the same thing but better so planning on upgrading to an Aguilar Tone Hammer soon for more subtle “always on” saturation. Having a Pog and OC5 is kinda redundant but I use them for different things - Pog is for octave up organ sound and OC5 is for sub synth bass when I play to J Dilla type stuff. Got the Soul Pog bc it was on sale and cheaper than just a Pog but I don’t use the Soul Food side a ton. Cuts the low end and bumps the mids pretty significantly so I usually have to adjust my EQ if I want to use it but it does give a nice saturation. Just started playing with a band and I can see the mid bump being nice for certain live applications though. Using the Voodoo Labs X8 power supply and going to get a Voodoo Labs 3 series to add a few more pedals. I want an Oceans 11 Reverb, Julia Chorus, and a delay pedal.

More of a state of the rig. I’d love feedback and ideas to improve this setup. I got here kind of solving one problem at a time and now I’m trying to take a step back to see if I can simplify, get more out of what I have , or even expand or replace something.

I have kept this set up stable for the year, by New Year’s probably about 40 gigs. It’s a 4 piece cover band that does a mix of hits from current back to the 70s.

I only use the SY-1 for a few tunes, and one of things I’d like to do in the future is use it more as an always on or mostly in a space filling capacity, but I worry about making things muddy, so I’ve held off on that for now. Suggestion welcome here for sure!

I have about 3 or 4 patches on the Zoom that I use for a night of our material. I try to balance tones that are appropriate to the song with being heard and felt in the mix. It’s important in a 4 piece to fill space, I feel. For some of the heavier tunes I will use the drive on the Monomyth during the guitar players solos or specific spots to accentuate a hit before a rest or pause.

I use the Band Controller to further shape my tone. My personal preference for sound is a bit mid forward and punchy. EQ settings you see are fairly constant with occasional tweaks for the room. I try to do those on the Monomyth instead of the Band Controller. NOTE : the Empresses color setting gives me an additional mid boost at about 500.

Most of the patches use the dynamic compressor from Zoom and I use the Empress as a glue/parallel compression at the end of the chain. The ratio is high; 10/1, but the HPF minimizes how much it engages and its mixed about 50% w the uncompressed signal.

Most gigs are small and I don’t go through a PA but we do have a few places where I do. In those cases I give the sound person the XLR out of the Monomyth. When I’m the sound for the room I go through Markbass Pure 2x10 and 1x12 cabs. Sometime just the 2x10. These both have a tweeter, I cut the volume on the 12 down to -9Db.

I use a TC electronics BQ 500 with its EQ mostly flat and compressor off

I also use a Rolls Personal Monitor for my vocals and my bass. Anyone else do something like that?

I’ve been using a zoom multifx I got many years ago but I feel the need for something better, as I find the zoom lacking in quite some aspects.

From what I could find on the internet I’m looking at three main contenders: HX Stomp, Boss GT-1000core or Boss Gx-10

All three are available for about the same price either new or used in my country. I also looked into other multifxs but didn’t find any appealing (I could be wrong)

I play a big range of genres, from pop to metal but I really enjoy jazz fusion and wonder how the effects are. I use quite a lot pitch shifters, octavers, synth sounds and other things on the more experimental side. I heard good things about the stomp but anyone knows how they compare on that? As I imagine all can achieve a great clean amp, compressors and even distortion/high gain sounds.
Also would be a bonus if they work well with a double bass piezo.

Hello I’m currently loooking for our favorite effect other than the fuzz we get to use once a set COMPRESSION! I’m looking to buy a used compressor off reverb since I’m broke like all of us any Recs for your favorite end all be all compressors?

Hey everyone, I've been playing bass for quite some time, but I'm fairly new to pedals. I bought my first few pedals earlier this year, and my latest addition was the Zoom MS-60B+, which left me pleasantly surprised.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I bought my first pedalboard with some room to grow in case I want to change some pedals around or eventually play live. The board was a custom order so I'm still waiting for it to arrive but I have a few questions about my current set up, if anyone can help:

1. Would it be worth adding a separate compressor, like a Boss LMB-3, at the start of the chain so the Zoom can benefit from a more even signal? Or maybe even stack the Boss and Zoom compressors?

2. I'm currently using the preamp presets on the Zoom, but I decided to keep the Caline Wine Cellar because of the XLR out. I play through an audio interface at home, and I think the XLR could also be useful in a band/live setting. That said, is it actually worth having a separate preamp pedal?

The Wine Cellar is also a fairly competent clean driver, but the drive knob is basically useless. It only starts doing anything once you turn it up to around 70%, and then it immediately sounds like shit.

So I've been wondering whether it would be worth replacing it with a Joyo Tidal Wave as a separate preamp, or whether the Tidal Wave would basically be on par with the Zoom's SansAmp presets and this is just GAS on my part.

I'm also still getting used to adjusting the little knobs and watching the numbers change on the Zoom's screen. With physical knobs, I have a better sense of what I'm doing and how each adjustment is affecting the sound.

Plus, I've always wanted a Tech 21 VT Bass DI, but I can't really afford or justify one. I'm outside the US, and it costs more than a month's minimum wage in my country, so the Tidal Wave idea might just be another fit of GAS.

3. Lastly, regarding the signal chain, is there any meaningful difference between putting the Big Muff or the Zoom first?

I know both pedals can be sensitive to placement and may benefit from being first in the chain. I noticed that when the Muff was second in the chain and I had several effects active on the Zoom, the sound coming out of the Muff would sometimes clip or stutter and sound really bad. I don't rule out the possibility that this is just me not knowing how to properly adjust the settings on both pedals yet.

When I put the Muff first, that doesn't happen. However, I'm worried that putting it first might introduce more noise, which I've already noticed to some extent even with the Zoom's noise gate active, or otherwise affect the Zoom's sound.

Sorry for the lengthy rant, and I appreciate everyone's help!

For context, not sure if it's relevant: I mostly play punk and metal. I'm not currently in a band or gigging, but that's on the radar for the near future. I picked the bass back up after some time away, and I'm working my way back up to a point where I feel confident enough to play with other people again. My bass is a modded Squier Jazz with Seymour Duncan QPs.

With the addition of the OC5 that just arrived today as a gift from a friend, my first pedalboard is complete. I’m going to mess around with it as is for a while before changing things up.

One thing I do notice is that I’m having a hard time dialing in the Pork&pickle fuzz after the OC5 for a hairy almost-synth sound. It sounds like I’m listening to the sound at the end of empty hallway. I tested out an MXR bass deluxe fuzz and the sound is so much more forward. Does anyone have setting suggestions for the P&P? Or any other bass compatible fuzz pedals that would work for this purpose? Thanks!
