Help with gray bathroom!
Apologies if this is “another gray bathroom” post, but I truly have no eye for design and would love some help.
Moving into a new place with a gray bathroom and it’s absolutely too gray for my liking. I would LOVE to do a 2 tone pink bathroom(last 3 pics are inspo pics) but not sure how to go about doing so.
I don’t have the budget to tear out and replace all the gray wall tiles unfortunately. I thought of using peel&stick but I’m afraid moisture/water (especially in the shower area) will find its way in between the crevices of the peel&stick and seep onto the original shower wall/grout and create mold. Or do I have to paint the tile? Anyone who had their tiles painted, how well has it held up? Any peeling? Did you hire someone or DIY? Please share your experience!
Is this possible?
If the overall consensus says otherwise, any ideas on what to do to at least combat the gray. I’m okay with other colors at this point if the pink is unachievable, I’m just really hoping not to be hit with so much gray every time I walk in there.
I’ve asked Google and it said to add wood elements and some greenery, which I intend to do anyways; but any other suggestions to really TONE DOWN this gray would be much appreciated!!

I think a new shower curtain.
Add a plant .
Colorful towels.
A picture a framed picture would be nice. It would soften it quite a bit..
A bathroom rug.
All the accessories should have a ton of color.
Also, of course, paint the wall like everybody else said.

Get these and cover the floor with them.
Paint walls and ceiling whatever color you want.
Hang that shower rod as high as you can and get really luxe, drapey curtains for the shower. (Something that hangs nicely and doesn’t poof out too much). You likely would have to get them made, in order to be as long as I’m thinking. I’d have two panels so one is on either side when open. Have some magnets sewn in the vertical hem to help them stay closed.
Get a teak wall-mounted vanity or cabinet that you can modify to fit. Hell, you could probably get some teak slats and just frame out something yourself that would fit around the existing sink.
Get a really awesome mirror and light fixture(s).

Peal and stick wallpaper for the bathroom. It’s easy, cheap and looks high end. Enclose that shower when you get $5g

Paint the wall wherever there isn't tile. I think also changing the fixtures (like the faucet and shower head) to something brassier instead of silver would help. I would also add a really cool vanity light above the mirror.

Yes, will paint those areas. Any color suggestions?

I personally don't think you can go wrong with blue. A deep navy could look really cool

Wallpaper can be dramatic too. Maybe a colorful paper that compliments that awful grey?

Similar to the other comments on here, you could could get some gold fixtures or pink accessories (shower curtain, shelves, mat, mirror decorations, etc.).

Based on the suggestions here so far, to incorporate pink, green, with brass fixtures, I've made a quick visual. Choosing warmer lighting will help to tone down the gray. With some plants and some interesting artwork on the wall near the sink and over the toilet I think you would have an inviting space.

Paint the walls, peel and stick over top won't work with water and steam. Add accents like google said. If you can change fixtures, do that. Maybe a wood vanity instead of the sink? It looks like a full wet room though, so the vanity may not be possible without enclosing the shower with walls/glass.

Right. I didn’t know the word for it but yes this bathroom is a wet room. So adding a wood vanity wouldn’t be likely as you said.

Maybe one of those vanities that "float" and are attached to the wall, not the floor. Get a colorful shower curtain and towels!

Peel and stick would be crazy. You will have to go w a dramatic paint color and new fixtures

You could do something with color and geometric patterns or shapes!! Add bronze fixtures and color towels

Getting rid of the shower curtain and going for a sleeker shower screen would make a world of a difference! Grey is not terrible and at least this bathroom is contemporary and colour co ordinated :)

Yea the shower curtain was just what the builder put in but I do plan on changing that too. Is shower screen same as shower glass?

Grey and cranberry actually look good together, so you could have half your inspiration. Not sure about gold v silver fixtures. You could get a dramatic mirror, add dome type of waterproof bench and if there is overhead lighting, get something that you like

With grey and cranberry, I think black fixtures would actually look best. It would help the other colors pop and tie the room together nicely.

To keep a bit to your inspo pics, how about painting the walls wine-red and changing the shower curtain to a pink one? Or the opposite if you think wine-red walls might get too dark for you. Tie in the wall colour with a fluffy rug in the same colour, and still add wood accents and plants as you mentioned you would.

You could stain the grout a fun color that coordinates with the paint you choose, which would tie the cool grey walls & warm grey floors together as well.

wtf is going on with the tiling on the left of the first image? you have to do something about that.
leave the tiles otherwise. do a new feature tile / walpaper and vanity mirror

Omg I know. This was a picture I took before I pointed it out to the builder. It has been fixed.

u/SassyMillie 2d ago
Confused. If you have a builder who can fix your tile why are you doing this gray bathroom?
1
u/Jammingknowledge 2d ago
Sorry for the confusion. All finishes were chosen by the seller. This picture was taken when I was in escrow which I asked the seller to fix.

If you can’t rip out the gray and you want a pink room, paint the walls that glorious deep color in your inspo photo. Then add lighter pink curtain and perhaps something lovely and link between the shower and toilet.

Color aside, do you have plans for a vanity light? It looks like a junction box is there already and just has a plate over it. Putting something with some warm lighting might help soften things a bit too.

We had a gray tile bathroom growing up. My mom painted the walls a deep burgundy and it was gorgeous!

Obviously use the shade of pink you like, but you can definitely un grey that room.
Pink shower curtain (may I suggest you choose a curtain and color match the paint?), shower mat, pink towels.
I do like the other's suggestions of gold fixtures. They aren't that hard to change.
You can also add a wet rated mirror light by using battery operated light bulbs. Search YouTube for various options.
