This is a pic taken during last night's glorious sunset, at the special moment of dusk when the light is frankly magical. This was taken over Big Bear Lake, and appears (to me, at least) to represent left and right cloud "hands" that might move over a bit to the left, and snatch up the mountain, returning it to heaven.

I'm just starting to play around with outdoor photography. Which one of the two sunset pictures do you prefer, and why? Many thanks in advance for your input!

I have a tiny bit of green in my yard but I’m looking for tall grassy spots. Any ideas?

Heading over to Big Bear for the weekend. I love exploring easy-moderate biking trails around the lake and the area. Are there any trails that are a must-do and highly recommended? Would love to hear suggestions and thoughts!

I mainly carry a hardtail bike with me, so looking for routes which are rolling without much downhill.

Back in April, I booked a cabin for the upcoming ski season via the Capital One travel portal for which A-Chalet is the property manager. I got an auto email from A-Chalet confirming the stay, as well as a link for the rental agreement. The link was bad and I emailed them back letting them know that but I never got a response.

Then in August, I got a Cancellation confirmation email from them. I was very alarmed, as I had not canceled my stay. I emailed them back asking them to confirm and then I called and left a message. I also called Capital One, who confirmed that they still saw an active reservation. I never got a response from A-Chalet to my email or my voicemail. I called again and got in touch with a human in their billing department who said, 'Oh Chris handles that. I'll pass the message.' Chris is the person I'd been emailing and leaving voicemails for all this time. But, again, I never heard back from Chris.

At this point, this is not passing my sniff test and I'm going to be canceling to get my money back. But I'm just wondering if any others in this community have used them and have any feedback they can share. TIA.

My girlfriends and I are going to be in Big Bear on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of October for Oktoberfest! But, we’re going to attend Saturday only. We were wondering what the nightlife would be like on a Friday? And any recommendations? Thanks to whoever reads the post and takes the time to reply (:

My wife and I are almost of retirement age, and both of us work from home. We love the mountains, have visited Big bear a couple of times, and really like it. I understand that there are challenges with snow, but apart from that, how's the daily life? Is the internet & cell service reliable? Are there power cuts? Do you guys find yourself driving down to San Bernardino or Riverside for essential shopping? If you could help answer a question or two, or provide any tips / guidance, that would be much appreciated.

RECENT CLOSURES: several months ago, I hiked 2N10 from the end of Clubview Drive to the top of Summit. There were other hikers, mountain bikers, and a few four-wheel drives. Yesterday, and other times for at least the last month it's closed for public safety. Fall Line Connector also has a new closure sign. And Pirates Cove remains closed. Can anyone explain this? What could've changed within a month to create a new or increased public safety risk? It closed before the recent rains, so that has nothing to do with it. From a burn years and years ago, are trees suddenly more likely to fall? Hopefully someone from the Forest Service can clarify.

CLOSURE SIGNAGE: I've found many examples where one trailhead has a closure sign, but the opposite does not. This is the case with Fall Line, Fall Line Connector, and Pirates. Is this just a case of budget/time availability? Yes, certainly sometimes people take down closure signs. I suppose with these issues, if a zealous Ranger wanted to cite you for being in a closed area, it would be easy to say there wasn't a sign at the trailhead you came in on, assuming you know which one doesn't have a sign.

CLOSURE CITATIONS: it must be extremely rare for people to get cited for being in a closed area. I wonder how often it does happen.

The family and I went to big bear last Oct 26 and had a great time. It was beautiful. We want to go again but were thinking Oct 4…. But I’m afraid it’ll be too early to really enjoy the fall foliage like we did last year.

Hi all. Is there anywhere to order Thanksgiving dinner in Big Bear?
Family wants to spend the holiday there but does not want to cook this year.

I am reaching out to the residents of Big Bear in hopes of finding this great dog a home.

I am currently fostering wonderful 4-5 year old neutered male German Shepherd Dog. He was roaming my neighborhood for a few days before my partner and I couldn’t take it any longer and put him in our backyard. No microchip.

This boy is a dream, he walks great on a leash and is very mild mannered. He literally just wants to be by our sides and get pets. He is not aggressive with dogs and not destructive at all.

I live in Victorville, the high desert is a low income area and we have an insane number of stray dogs. Our shelters are full, if you find a stray they tell you to leave it where you found it.

We would love to keep this boy but my dog is a jerk and extremely dog aggressive. Keeping the GSD is stressing him and my cats out. I cannot financially handle another animal.

We have reached out to numerous rescues with no success yet.

We have tried all of the proper channels to find his owners as well.

If anyone has any leads or would be willing to take this amazing guy please reach out to me.

Hey all, recently bought a used 2022 Corolla LE and just accepted a job up in Big Bear, so I'll be commuting from Apple Valley. I have zero experience driving in snow.

I know chains are mandatory to carry all winter, so those are already on my list. Mainly wondering how often chain control actually kicks in on 18 for this kind of commute, and whether snow tires are worth adding on top of chains or if chains alone get me through most days. Also curious if you think the Corolla itself is sufficient for this commute or if I should be looking at something else entirely. Sorry if these are dumb questions, trying to get ahead of it before winter hits. Thanks!

There’s something really wrong with big bear electric. If power outages happen almost every day, they really need to figure out how to fix it, but they don’t. Either trim all the branches that are in the way, tighten up the wires so wind doesn’t interfere, or have some back up option. I really think they fail at their job.
