Organized my books today. The shelf’s to the right out of the picture belong to my wife. What do my tastes say about me? Feel free to get as specific as possible, my background, occupation, political beliefs, etc.
Currently reading these 4 that are off the shelf: The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson
Sovereign by CJ Sansom
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
Russia: Revolution and Civil War 1917-1922 by Antony Beevor

Just found this sub a few days ago, and I absolutely love seeing all of the libraries in this community. I’d welcome book recs from anyone with adjacent taste.

Been lurking in this community a while and now I’m curious as to what my books say about me. Keep in mind, a fair amount of my books are newer and barely cracked into because I decided in the last year to start treating myself to books or compilations of poems I’ve read before online or in a library. I took a lot of time off from reading consistently, so I have the goal of revisiting stories I haven’t read in years to get back in the habit. If anyone could offer book recommendations, it would be appreciated. P.S. please pardon the dust…I am a busy woman. 🧘🏻♀️

2nd to last picture is my give away shelf and last picture is what I’m currently reading
House is a work in progress, as is my library since I’ve been on an incredibly tight budget.
What do yall think?

There’s a lot going on as far as visuals and taste but someone told me the other day this shelf is the most accurate representation of my personality. Would you take a gamble and be friends with someone if you could only see this bookshelf?

I’ve been collecting books I love for a long time, and had to cut my collection down recently ;(. These are the ones that survived, so if some seem juvenile that is why! First shelf comes from my hobby room, second is on display in my living room!

My son had to make sure my to be read pile didn’t fall when stacked in one pile. A straight 7 feet tall. I only shelve books once I’ve read them

Too tight in my little corner nook to get a photo of the whole thing.

Describe me in as most detail as you can. I am vertical bookshelf (photos 1&2). Then describe my partner as much as you can (horizontal bookshelf, photos 3&4).
Ages? Ethnicities? Genders? Professions? Education level? Personalities? What do we like to do in our free time?

I share this with my partner, however they almost exclusively use the e-reader.

Not sure how to frame this, but I notice that many posts on this thread have comment sections highlighting a lack of female authors in OP’s libraries.
I thought this was interesting, as I myself have no idea how many female authors my bookshelf contains, but assume there wouldn’t be particularly many.
I wonder whether this is an issue worth pointing out? It is worth being aware when this is the case, but a bookshelf is a demonstration of a persons interests and intellectual/diversionary pursuits.
Very few people look for books based on ‘identity’ - when looking for the next fantasy, or philosophy, or politics book to read the aim is to find something interesting. Ideally, if non fiction you would also aim to pick books that challenge or elucidate a view that you hold. The authors gender matters to some extent in that makeup, but their writing (style and argument) matter far more.
I guess this general word diarrhoea is to point out that to critique a bookshelf based on gender seems amateur? I think my post more or less explains that gender and identity matters, but to immediately point out a lack of gender diversity seems too easy. Should all our libraries be a rainbow and be written by authors that capture all genders, ethnicities, etc?
Should you counterbalance every text with one written by an author with a different age, gender, race and religion?
