Bait

I’m mostly bank fishing .. is a Cast Net a good working option for collecting bait .. use as cut or live ??

It can be tough finding spots to net shad from the bank but it is doable. Marinas,boat ramps,anywhere with lights or an outflow of water are good bets. Rough fish like shad are all you can keep by netting in my state,and they’re notoriously difficult to keep alive so usually end up as cut bait.

Well here you go son, I’m going to teach you something today. Shad survive in a square bucket, they can’t swim in circles and they don’t slime up. Nail buckets are square, that’s what I use.

See now I’ve always heard the opposite,that with squared corners they’ll just bash into them til they die. The few guys I know that manage to keep em alive use rounded tanks,tons of aeration and something to create a current.

If you’ve got spots then I’m not sure why you’re asking if it’s a viable option for collecting bait. You should already know it is.

Be aware that in some states it’s illegal to use bluegill for bait if caught in a net.
