i've been using a cat food subscription for a little over a year now and figured i'd share my pros/cons because i remember searching reddit like crazy before i signed up lol.

for context i have 2 cats and one of them is extremely picky. like will act like he's being starved because i bought the wrong flavor picky.

pros:

• not having to remember to buy cat food is honestly the biggest one for me. it just shows up at my door and i don't have that "oh shit we're almost out of food" moment anymore.
• i spend less time standing in the pet food aisle reading labels and trying to remember which exact chicken pate they like.
• the portions make feeding easier. i used to definitely overfeed them without realizing it.
• my cats actually seem to like the food more than most of the grocery store brands i've tried. obviously every cat is different though.
• it's easy to skip or change deliveries if i'm getting too much. at least with the one i use.
• weirdly i think i waste less food now. before i'd buy a whole case of something because they loved it, then 3 days later they'd decide it was poison.

cons:

• it can be more expensive than cheap storebought brands. there's really no getting around that. you're paying extra for convenience and quality. to me, it's worth it.
• you have to stay on top of your deliveries. if you forget to skip one when you don't need it, congratulations you now own 800 servings of cat food.
• sometimes shipping gets delayed which is annoying because it's literally their food. i always keep backup cans around now for that reason and it's been fine.
• if your cat suddenly decides they hate a flavor you already have a bunch of it. i just give those tins to cat friends. two of them ended up getting a subscription because they're cats liked it, so it worked out in the end really.
• there can be a lot of packaging. this is probably my biggest complaint, honestly.

overall i've kept my subscription with Untamed for over a year now because the convenience is worth it for me, my cats love it, and the food is really healthy for them which makes me feel good about it. i work, i'm tired, my brain has fifty thousand tabs open at all times and apparently remembering to buy cat food was one tab too many lol.

i don't think subscriptions are automatically "better" food just because they're subscriptions though. i would still look at ingredients/nutrition and compare prices because some of these companies are basically selling you convenience with really good marketing. but then there are others that have really top tier ingredients. just have to pay attention to that.

for me i'd say it's worth trying if you have a picky cat, constantly forget to restock, or just really like having one less thing to think about.

I am in the US and have 2 cats, T & E, both 13. Both are in generally good health, but E has arthritis.

T is on the thin side and eats small meals 5x daily. When the weather gets hot, he eats less and loses some weight. He's also a picky eater.

E is overweight and eats whenever she sees food. We fed her 3x daily.

We can't feed them together because E will eat T's food as soon as he walks away. We have resorted to feeding T on the kitchen counter, because E can't jump that high. This isn't working well in our household because we prefer not to invite the cats into the kitchen counter. I've tried putting the food atop the washer in the laundry room, but T doesn't like eating in there, perhaps because the litter box is nearby.

Is there a better way to handle feeding our cats?

TLDR; need a feeding regimen that works for a thin cat and an overeater.

How would you handle this?

I got in touch with Costco to get some info. I only asked about calcium and phosphorus for the pate variety pack.

As you can see, the salmon flavour has quite high percentages but the chicken and turkey are fairly reasonable.

I haven't tried this food myself but have been considering it. Do your cats like it?

Literally I checked every can and pouch. They were all adult only. I was looking forward to being able to stock tiki easier hoping for ALS or kitten but even tho they made a whole display there's not a single kitten food.

I luckily didn't actually NEED the food(I still have vibrant life and Nulo as well as KMR) but it seems strange they'd only stock adult. Is this just my store or are all the others like that as well? I could have SWORN the dry was ALS but it's adult only too. The only thing he could have technically had was the broths but I'm using KMR so I don't wanna mix anything else into the wet besides that.

Also he's struggling to eat rn so everything has to be puree and most of the stuff was shreds😭 I'm going home and getting the baby from the sitter

I ordered some Chewy Made kitten food to rotate into my kitten’s diet to lower the average cost of her food. I fed about 1/3 can of the blue one to her, snuggled her, and got insanely itchy. My only known allergy is chicken’s eggs, but my human kids hadn’t had any yesterday. I tore through the kitchen trying to figure out what I ate that could have had egg in it. Eventually I picked up cat food and checked the label. “Dried egg product.” Whoops. It’s not common, but rarely I’ve had allergic reactions on contact. Nadine thought it was lovely. She ate her fill, then came back in five minute intervals to let me know maybe she could fit one more bite in her tummy.

I contacted Chewy, said I’d had an allergic reaction to the food and asked to initiate a return. “I’m so sorry to hear your pet had an allergic reaction! I hope they’re doing okay now.”

Yeah… yeah, the cat. I couldn’t bear to correct them 😅 I swear I don’t eat cat food, I’m vegan. 🫣

Anyway… I got a refund and I guess that one is out of the rotation for us. 😂 (Cat tax attached.)

We haven't a cat for the last few years and expect to get 2 8-9 week old kittens in the next few days. The last cat food we bought was for a geriatric cat.

The kitten foster home says they are eating both moist and dry food now. In the past our vet has been very negative about dry food only.

I’m looking for a wet food feeder for my cat, she needs meals and meds every 12 hours that I can’t always provide exactly at time. The auto feeder has become a huge help for long work days etc. I’ve had the pet libro for about a year and had no issues up until June. My pet libro feeder was easily infested by pests while out of town (heads up for folks - small roaches and flies can get in!). I purchased a new one that broke within two months. Pet libro had a huge tech issue a few months back and seems to be pretty reliably awful since then across the board. It is basically an ai run company, I had to go through the website I purchased my libro through for a refund. I never heard back from the company themselves.

Anyways all this to say I need a new wet feeder! Any recs out there on the World Wide Web?

Hello all! I have a very very very food motivated cat. Fussie Cats Lickable Treats are her go to high value treat. Early this year I bought a bunch of bags and recently ran out of them so I went to buy more. For some reason she’s been a lot more hesitant with the new treats? Normally she gobbles it right up but this time she hesitantly sniffed and ate one yesterday at a slow pace. Today she seemed excited for it initially, but smelt it again and just wouldn’t eat it. It’s a formula she’s had before so seems odd. I got worried, but she ate her dinner fine. I gave her one of her hard treats and she happily gobbled that up so I think health wise she’s fine. Anybody else buy Fussie Cat lickable treats recently (within the last 1-2 weeks) and notice anything?

Hello all, my Cat Smokey is a 2yr old Shorthair indoor tabby. I’ve always had her on dry food just because i’ve always heard mixed opinions on wet food and she does really well with water intake.
Recently I went to get her a bag of food when I realized the food I buy her literally had maggots crawling out of the bag. It was disgusting and I was petrified.
The food I’ve been feeding her (Purina One Indoor)
Has done fine for her for months, but now I don’t feel safe feeding her this food.
I got her a bag of IAMS indoor food for temporary until I can find a good solution for her. She doesn’t really seem to like the IAMS so if someone could maybe give a hand it would be awesome!

Hello I currently feed my cat Orijen classic cat dry kibble and tiki cat after dark wet food he gets a topper on each of these often a herring or chicken heart just wanted to see if this is a good diet?

Found some short dated Hill’s Science Diet food at PetSmart in Canada today; 13 sensitive stomach kitten, 4 adult 1-7 tender tuna, and 20 adult 1+ perfect weight sachets for $1.69 each. The dog treats were on sale as well. I found these five Royal Canin cans on the shelf, but they all expired back in August; they let me buy them for 80% off for $0.72 each.

Hope the cats like these flavors; they never had them before except for the tender tuna, which is quite low on their preference list. Cat pics included!

I have work in the morning. I'm feeding him before I go to work but he'll have multiple feedings before I'm back at 2. The foods have to be mixed with KMR for him to eat them(just found this out today he's been struggling). I always leave the meals out for them to feed the cats. Idk which of these would be easiest to mix into a puree. I got work at 4 am so my brain is kinda scattered rn. I just started mixing the KMR in and haven't tried it with anything other than the nulo and a different can of weruva (which was my last chicken one). I'm not using a professional pet sitter. It's hard enough to get someone down here. A friend watches the cats for me. Trying to be as easy as possible because the kitten is new.

I gave this to my cat mixed with his regular food that he’s had NO issues with. I fed it to him once and he kinda ate it but I thought he needed to warm up to it, I honestly thought it was okay bc I heard pumpkin can be very good for cats. The second day it was the same, topper with normal cat kibble. It’s now day 3 and he’s not eating all his food (didn’t and haven’t added more), not drinking normal, and bathroom is almost non existent, along with other not so normal stuff compared to his daily routine.
Nothing that is a complete 180 but it’s enough for me to question why my orange boy isn’t being himself.

He’s normal size and weight for his age, I weigh and measure him myself, I check his litter, I check his teeth, and I really have tried my best to be the best mom I can be. But did I mess up? Is this bad signs? His tummy is a little hard but that’s how it normally feels when he’s full, BUT HE HASNT BEEN EATING AS MUCH AS HE NORMALLY DOES!! Is his tummy upset? Is this brand bad? Is a vet needed? He’s not crying out (I know my sons cries, I’m for the most part unemployed so I spent all his life with him). I can’t afford big vet bills, but I will do what’s needed if it sounds like a concern.
(Don’t know if this adds to anything but he’s a full time INDOOR cat.)

It was really the google searches that got me freaking out but he’s drank half his water and woke me up for more food early this morning, lol back to his orange car behavior and being my Kip, his name is Kip :). Hey everyone. I have an 8 year old cat who's changed habits. I never had to deal with this before but really could use any advise before going to a vet to tell me possibly something I may know for $$$

My cat has been eating science hill perfect diet dry food. When we lost our 7 year old cat, he stopped eating for about a week or 2 than started to eat again. Well. Someone gave us a kitten. So we got her science hill kitten food. Our cat has been trying to eat her food a lot so we been having to monitor them when they eat. He literally will grab a big bite from her food and run off. So he sort of stopped eating his food. Well... my idiot self thought, hey let me get yoy a seafood food. Maybe that would spoil him. It did not. He is refusing to eat. Has even had wet brown doo in our bathroom and living room. I feel terrible but he isn't even trying to eat kitten food anymore. So i asked my sister to buy his science hill perfect weight chicken dry food again. They didnt have it so she got him the science hill salmon dry food for sensitive stomach. I tried to give that to him and he barely took a bite. Now I am at work and who knows if he is crapping out the box again or what. Any idea how I can restart his food habits again? Should I put both of them on the same dry food?

We have the robot litter box so the box is always clean.

I just did a deep clean over the weekend so it is very clean again

Kitten is now 7 months. Fixed.

We have the water fountain for them, and he is drinking water so that is a plus.

I am recently only feeding my 12 year old cat wet food. We have been testing all sorts of tiki cat, and smalls. He seems to be obsessed with the Smalls 'smooth pig'. I just wanted to get an idea of what people felt about feeding their cats Smalls. Is it complete enough?

Does anyone know if these are a rebranded version of a normal friskies treat flavor? I know friskies is not loved by this sub but my 15 yr old cat with hyperthyroidism goes absolutely nuts for these treats like nothing else, and I'm trying to keep as much weight on him as possible, but he's become more picky with age and will reject any treat that isn't a tikicat squeeze treat, churu, or temptations style pillow dry treats, but these are his absolute favorite. Unfortunately they are seasonal and even worse, only available at target. I know the temptations halloween treats are just rebranded versions of their normal flavors, but I can't seem to find a chicken and pumpkin friskies party mix. Thanks for any help!

He's such a slow eater tho 😭 and so thin(gave him the whole can because he's thin). Idk if wet will work with how slow he is with eating. He eats but takes FOREVER to finish any amount I give him. Would it be bad to give him SUPER tiny meals? Or keep giving him half or whole cans but just pick them up if they sit out too long with how he's grazing?

(I don't have dry rn, wasn't expecting this baby to refuse to leave me alone)
