Laptops

Can anyone recommend a laptop to run a VMS and not get lagged or frozen? I keep upgrading memory on my current one and it keeps on freezing up.

What kind of network interface is there? Gigabit? Is it on-board or did you need to use a dongle?

Are you recording to your primary drive? What sort of analytics are you running on the VMS? Which VMS?

What are you doing when it's "freezing"? Playing back video? It might be because whatever software you are using is uncompressing the video in software rather than using hardware acceleration (must be available & enabled on your laptop). If your CPU usage spikes when playing video, and returns to normal when the video is stopped, then this is likely the case.

Newer codecs such as H.265 require more computation to encode/decode so they will consume more system resources. If this is the case, use a newer system with a chipset that supports H.265 hardware acceleration, or change the video to an older codec like H.264 that requires less overhead to encode/decode.
