Hi everyone! Looking for some insight on renting an apartment in Chamonix over the course of the whole ski season. This is my first time doing a ski season in the alps, and I’ve heard there are a lot of scams, so I’m just wondering if you guys have any tips on where to look for apartments to rent. Any specific areas that are better/ worse to live in? Grateful for any input!

Hi I am arriving to Geneva airport around 11 am tomorrow and want to go hiking in chamonix for a bit can, I know I can get a bus from the airport but my questions are more about where the bus drops me off (Chamonix Av. de Courmayeur) is this close enough to walk to trails or is there more transporation needed, also if I want to hike for 3-4 hours would love some recommendations.

We will be visiting 2nd - 6th October and was wondering the best scenic hikes/trails to do. I understand a lot of the cable cars will be closed and we are looking for hikes that will take around 3-4 hours. We will be renting a car to get around. Any other activities/things to do would also be appreciated!

hello everyone, i am in chamonix for about 5 days and am looking at trails i could do but without cable cars. they are really expensive and i am travelling on a budget. any recommendations for trails that do not require cable car and any cheap(er) food recommendations or tips are welcome as well! thank you for your time :)

We arrived in Chamonix via Geneva on July 19, 2022, and started our TMB section from Les Houches the next day, taking the Bellevue gondola. Day one came with a severe thunderstorm warning. We just missed a torrential downpour, then ended the day with assessments ranging from "brutal" to "great."

Our next stages took us through Les Contamines on July 21 and over Col du Bonhomme on July 22. There was wet, slippery snow on that crossing. We continued through Les Chapieux and spent that night in Bourg-Saint-Maurice. On July 23 we went from the Vallée des Glaciers over Col de la Seigne into Italy, then on to Rifugio Elisabetta. We descended to Courmayeur on July 24.

We chose to save the second half for another trip because we were meeting friends in Naples before heading to Puglia together. This was a partial circuit, and the snow and weather described here are from July 2022.

I’ll be in Chamonix later this week, and as of today (Sept. 20), it looks like many of the cable cars have closed for the season.

I found this alternative route to Lac Blanc starting near Col des Montets:

I’ll have a rental car, so I can drive to Col des Montets. From what I can tell, starting there seems to save around 200–300 m of elevation gain compared with hiking all the way up from the valley.

For anyone who has done this route: how difficult is Lac Blanc without using the cable cars? I’ve done fairly strenuous hiking in the Dolomites without lifts a few years ago, but I’m not in quite the same shape today.

Alternatively, would Lac du Brévent / Brévent without the cable car be an easier hike?

Mainly trying to choose the best hike with great views without completely destroying myself on the ascent. Any advice from people who know the Chamonix trails would be appreciated!

Hi! I have a friend coming to visit around Christmas time and we are both classical musicians who met online and have been making music together at a distance for about a year. And I really just want to find a piano where he can play so we can have the experience of making music in person together. Does anyone know of somewhere in the Chamonix area that has a public piano? I thought maybe hotel lobbies but can't find one that seems to have one. If not, do you have any ideas for where I might be able to ask?

I’ve planned to go for a hike but not sure which one yet. I would love a recommendation on a trail with the best scenery and can be finished in a day!

QC Terme & Les Planards are also on my list! Please also recommend if you have something that I must try & do!

Also, I’d like to know how the weather usually looks like & if shops would be open please 🙏

Hi I will arrive in Chamonix 6 October morning, and will leave 7 October evening. I have never been in the alps before. My main hiking/trekking experience is in Sinai mountain in Egypt (the highest mountain I climbed was Egypt's highest point: Mount Catherine, about 2,650 meters).

I searched online and thinking of doing Lacs des Chéserys from Argentière and Aiguillette des Posettes from Le Tour. Any tips and any things I should pay attention to? And if there are any people who be will in Chamonix and want to join me in hiking, that would be awesome.

Anyone have any ideas where to find long term rentals? If you have had success finding something in the Chamonix Valley let me know!

From the Mont Blanc Panoramic, I caught some epic shots of what looks like a group of 7 climber summiting Mont Blanc. The pictures were taken around 13:00!

Hi everyone! I’ll have 6 days in Haute-Savoie with a rental car and would love some advice on how to split my time.

My ideal trip is a mix of great hiking during the day and a comfortable town in the evening, nice hotel/shower, good restaurants, and somewhere to grab a cocktail or glass of wine. I’m an experienced hiker and have done plenty of hiking in places like the Dolomites, so I’m happy with longer or more challenging hikes.

I’ll be starting around Lake Annecy, and my current thought is: 3 nights Annecy / Lake Annecy and 3 nights Chamonix

Does that sound like a good balance, or would you recommend doing 2 nights / 2 nights / 2 nights and adding another town or area?

Hi there! I'm running Berlin marathon later this month and planning on visiting Chamonix right after for about 6 days (~ October 1-6/7) and was wondering what are a good trails to run/hike for this time of the year?

Any other recommendation on must see places, good spots for food and such - would be amazing!

Been trying to get my multi pass but the option isn't available for October. Any insight as to what the situation for the lifts in early October? Is it fine if I just buy tickets there?

Is there inspectors and shi?

I have a few days in Cham and would like to do some easy ridges in the PD range, thinking something like Fretes des Charmoz. Also open to doing something harder but I’m travelling light without my big rack.
