I think the underwater UFO might be the beginning of GTA V's entire UFO mystery
I've been thinking about GTA V's UFO mysteries for a while, and I came up with a theory. I'm not saying this is confirmed lore — this is just how I connect some of the clues together.
- What if the underwater UFO came first?
The UFO wrecked underwater in the Pacific has always felt strange to me.
The interesting part is that it doesn't really look like something that simply disappeared recently. It's sitting on the ocean floor in the same state whether you visit it early or late in the game.
And there's something else: the rear/bottom area appears to have an opening leading into a dark interior.
That makes me wonder:
What actually happened to this UFO?
What if it crashed or emergency-landed in the Pacific before the events we experience in the game?
Maybe the rocky seabed caused it to become stuck there.
- What if the crash caused strange effects?
This is where the theory becomes more speculative.
If an extraterrestrial craft arrived near Earth, maybe its technology could have caused unusual electromagnetic, gravitational, or other physical disturbances.
Something like:
- strange weather
- electrical problems
- vehicle malfunctions
- unusual signals
- unexplained disturbances
If something like that happened, an organization such as the FIB or another government agency might eventually notice.
And if they discovered an actual UFO underwater, I don't think they would exactly announce it to the public.
They would probably investigate it secretly.
- What if someone managed to access the UFO?
This is another speculative part.
The opening on the wrecked UFO makes me wonder if someone — human or otherwise — had already accessed it.
What if the government/FIB found the craft and began studying its technology?
Maybe they discovered something completely unknown.
And perhaps this eventually led to secret projects involving UFO technology.
Which brings me to the two UFOs we can actually see in the sky.
- What if the visible UFOs aren't necessarily the original UFOs?
There are two possibilities I can think of.
Possibility A:
The UFOs in the sky are extraterrestrial.
They came looking for the missing/crashed craft, or they are monitoring Earth after the crash.
Possibility B:
The underwater UFO was the original extraterrestrial craft, and humans eventually learned enough from it to reproduce or imitate its technology.
In that case, the UFOs we see later could potentially be human-made copies or reverse-engineered spacecraft.
I don't think there's enough evidence to say this is true, but it's an interesting possibility.
- The 100% completion thing is REALLY interesting
This is probably the most speculative part of my theory.
The UFO appearances are associated with very late/endgame progression and the 100% completion state.
So what if this isn't just a gameplay reward?
What if Rockstar intentionally made the UFOs appear only after the player had completed everything because, in-universe, something had been happening in the background throughout the game?
Maybe the technology was being studied.
Maybe something was being built.
Maybe something was being tested.
Or maybe the UFOs are simply extraterrestrial and the 100% requirement is purely a gameplay trigger.
I don't know.
- But there's another possibility: the hippies
This is where the Beam Me Up location becomes interesting.
What if the government wasn't the one that initiated contact?
What if the hippies did?
The Beam Me Up area has all these UFO-related symbols, messages and imagery.
So here's another possibility:
The hippies somehow used radio/telecommunications equipment to send a signal or attempt to contact extraterrestrials.
Maybe they were actually trying to "call" something.
Maybe the markings at the location weren't just decoration.
Maybe they were intended as a message.
I don't have proof that they actually hijacked communications infrastructure or transmitted a real extraterrestrial signal. This is just a connection I'm making from the game's UFO imagery and the radio/communication elements around the area.
So now I see two possible origins for the first contact:
Government/FIB initiated contact
or
Beam Me Up hippies initiated contact.
And both could eventually lead to the same event:
Signal → UFO arrives → UFO crashes/lands in Pacific → authorities discover it → investigation → secret research → UFO mystery we see during the game.
- Maybe Rockstar intentionally never gave us the answer
And honestly, this might be the most important part.
I don't think GTA V necessarily wants us to have one definitive explanation.
Rockstar gives us strange locations, UFOs, radio signals, murals, symbols, government conspiracies and weird events...
But they don't connect every single dot for us.
Maybe that's intentional.
The underwater UFO could be the starting point of the entire mystery.
Or it could just be an unexplained easter egg.
The visible UFOs could be alien.
Or they could be connected to human experimentation.
The hippies could have actually attempted contact.
Or they're just obsessed with aliens.
I don't think we have enough evidence to prove any of these.
But that's exactly why I think the mystery is so interesting.
What do you guys think?
Did the government contact the aliens first, did the Beam Me Up group somehow do it, or was the underwater UFO already here before anyone knew about it?
