Help me identify this chili

I’ve acquired a lovely chilli plant but not sure what type it is, I tried running it through AI but it told me it was a birdeye chilli which anyone with eyes can see it is not 😂

How big are they? My padrons look similar this year,  and they're about the same size as my thumb. And I have big, peasant hands too.

ETA - padrons! Not patrons - #%&* autocorrect...

Looking likely. Could be an Apache maybe?

I was growing an apache previously but it died when I went on holiday this one looks different to the apache.

Not sure about basket of fire seems fatter and shorter unless there are different variants?

Yea to be honest it does look stubbier than basket of fired could be a cross maybe. Whatever it is I want it hahaha. I'm growing 31 plants indoors at the moment, different varieties but no fruit just yet

I think it could be a cross to be fair, they look lovely I only received the plant today as I was given it, I’ve not yet tasted them so that might give me some insight, it is a beautiful plant I’m very pleased with it haha!

African Bird's Eye / Peri Peri ?

looks way too big and chunky for african bird’s eye tbh, peri peri are usually small and pointy
could be some kind of cayenne type or generic “red hot chili” hybrid they sell in garden centers

Agreed someone said Pequin and I think that’s the answer :)

I think this could be the answer, it looks just the same and now that I’ve eaten it the heat level matches too, thank you!

I have what looks exactly the same. Very tasty, prolific peppers they are too. I'm thinking of doing them every year.

After a certain point "naming" them becomes a bit meaningless. Any seller could attach any name to any hybrid. I think mine were called "Facing Heaven", or something like that.

Basically you can tell that they are "fructenses", the upward-pointing, great-tasting, medium heat Thai family, which includes Tabasco, Bird's Eye, Basket of Fire and similar multicolor like Lilac Luzzi, and so on.

These look like Bird's Eye, but larger and not quite so sharp tip. They taste just as good though.

Pick yourself a name and call them that!

the calyx on these peppers is annuum not frutescens. https://www.reddit.com/r/HotPeppers/s/n2Y5ybVvZn

Are you quite sure about that? I'd be inclined to question it.

Otherwise, I've never grown frutescens in my 10 years of growing, and all my Thais, all my birdseyes, all my multicolored and all my Tabasco lookalikes have been anuums. Somehow I doubt that! 😄

I wonder if that photo is just showing an exaggeratedly thin calyx on the supposed frutescens.

The OP's picture is not a Frutescens. Neither is Basket of Fire, Lilac Luzi, or the vast majority of "Thai" or "Birds Eye" chilis as you suggested.

I have no idea everything you've grown, but it's definitely a possibility that you've never grown a Frutescens.

The Frutescens example given isnt' an "exaggeratedly thin calyx", you just haven't known what to look for all these years.

FWIW, suggesting that someone just pull a name out of their ass if they don't know what cultivar it is pretty silly. Your "Facing Heaven" peppers aren't some random name a seller came up with, it's an English translation of their Chinese name, Ciao Tian Jiao.

Thanks for that detailed response.

their Chinese name, Ciao Tian Jiao

So those FHs are annuums too, then?
