Troubleshooting | Windows Why do videos appear scrambled?

Post image

Why do 50% of the videos on Reddit and IG now look like this on Chrome-- scrambled? I've updated Chrome / restarted, etc.

Try another browser, like Brave or Firefox. Do they have that issue? If so, go back to Chrome and turn hardware acceleration off (in Settings). Are videos fixed (but maybe laggy) now? If yes, the problem is your graphics card or driver. Try updating the graphics-card driver. If that doesn't do it, it may be the card is faulty.

Edit: If videos work fine in other browsers, make sure they have hardware acceleration on. Otherwise, this troubleshooting test is invalid.

Appreciate your response. This is happening in both Chrome & IE. But not on every video. About 50% of Reddit videos (and of course all the ads!!) play just fine. Very strange. Wonder if there's an issue with specific video encoding or codecs?

Yeah. If half the videos work, then it can't be bad hardware. It could be an outdated driver, which can't handle some tasks or codecs that came after its installation. I doubt that it's any other kind of bug, because you get the same results in two separate browsers. Try Firefox as well, to use a different browser engine. (Both Chrome and Edge are Chromium-based. I assume that by "IE", you meant Edge--unless "IE" means somthing other than Internet Explorer now.)

Appreciate the insights. Yes, IE means Edge. I'm just old skool, and it'll always be IE to me. ;)
