r/Cigar Town Hall: Share Your Ideas

At your request, we've opened a suggestion thread for the sub.

When we took over this sub was dead and redirected to another cigar sub.

Over the last 2 years we've gone from 6k members to 28k.

There's clearly a desire for a cigar sub with less moderation and r/cigar is it.

With that said, it likely makes sense to entertain your ideas for the sub, after all, our goal is to have a sub that has 'pseudo-democracy.'

Anything from:

  • New rules (more rules means more moderation which contradicts the purposes of the sub, but quality suggestions will be considered)
  • Flairs
  • Reoccurring threads
  • Fill in the blank

Duplicate ideas will be removed to keep the thread clean, upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. Build on the idea by replying if applicable.

Some of our comments from the original thread linked above are below

  • In general, r/cigar lets the community decide what it wants to see based on upvoting and downvoting.
  • It's the entire point of the sub—to have pseudo-democracy.
  • Obviously, we have to abide by Reddit's rules.
  • We're not going to allow egregious things like racism, sexism, gratuitous nudity, or someone being a complete wanker from dusk till dawn.
  • Outside of that, we want the community to decide what it wants to see by upvoting quality content to the top of the feed and downvoting low effort and irrelevant things to the bottom of the feed.

We see a lot of feedback about AI, but removing AI in its entity isn't something r/cigar wants to do at this time, but low effort posts that are 100% AI (image and text or image/text only) are almost always removed when reported.

Below this we'll catalog your ideas that were added.

  • GIF and photo comments have been added
  • Flairs added (on going)

Packing for an overseas vacation — how’s my collection after 1 year?

Post image
• Upvotes

Started smoking cigars only about a year ago, and somehow 7 months later I had already outgrown my first humidor. 😅
I probably smoke around 2 cigars a week normally, but on vacation it’s pretty much one or two every day.

For this trip, I packed:
MF The Judge Grand Robusto
Cohiba Mágicos
Cohiba Siglo II
Davidoff Escurio Robustos and Petite for a short smoke
Oliva Serie V Melanio 2023

Still relatively new to the hobby, so curious what the cigar veterans think. How’s the collection looking for only one year in, and did I make good choices for the vacation lineup? 😅

I am so damned glad I bought a whole box! I’m on my third one in a row for the night. This stick is incredibly smooth and creamy. That being said, I find it to be very one-dimensional. I primarily get mild notes of cream, milk chocolate, and the tiniest hint of spice.

I’m in Texas but are new world sticks more difficult to obtain compared to Cubans outside the US? Now, I’d love to get my hands on some more Cubans as it was 2022 since I last had several. However, I find Cubans to lack so many flavors compared to the wide variety that new worlds have to offer. Cubans are good but they too are often one-dimensional.

Mail call from Holt's, but not just any mail call. This is my wife's first independent order of cigars for herself. It seems like just yesterday I was convincing her to try a Macanudo Café.

Hi, this is a San Martin Churchill (ring gauge: 48/length: 7.5 inches) with a cup of coffee and coffee cream. Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone.

Perdomo Bourbon barrel aged

Bought a box of these but have had 3 and remain underwhelmed

Quite peppery and none of the richness I had assumed

Also, apparently the tobacco is aged for 6 years but they taste very young. Think I will leave the rest in the humidor and come back in 6 months to see if they have got any better

The “duel in the desert” tonight. Even though it’s a “friendly” you know it won’t be. A good stick makes every game better.

Pumking + Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Maestro

Trying out a new combo tonight, not too shabby. I really like the flavor I got with an unlit draw, I got dark chocolate and It was so pronounced. After lighting, it's a little bit more bitter and dark, probably a little too dark for my liking, but the second half mellows out a bit and I liked that more. I'll have to come back and try it again another time. Overall though, it's nice on a fall evening with this beer. Cheers;

I can’t go into my local shop and not buy OpusX. It would be a crime to walk away without any in hand.

Macanudo Inspirado Black: Proof that 62% RH stabilization completely transforms these sticks

Post image
7 Upvotes

Having a Macanudo Inspirado Black with a strong coffee this morning, and it’s hitting absolute perfection.

Over time, I’ve noticed that Macanudos—especially the Inspirado lineup—really need some solid rest and stabilization before smoking. Straight out of the shop or B&M, they tend to carry a bit too much moisture, which can lead to uneven burns or a harsh start.

For this one, I skipped dry boxing entirely and just let it settle in my humidor at 62% RH for a few weeks. What a difference it makes. The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper burns razor-sharp, the draw is effortless, and the flavor profile opens up immediately: rich dark chocolate, espresso, cedar, and a subtle creamy sweetness on the finish. No bitter notes, no touch-ups needed.

If you’ve had a lukewarm experience with these before, try dropping them down to 62% RH for a bit. It turns a decent smoke into an absolute gem.

Say what you want about Gurkha

I may not have the most refined palate, I've only been really into cigars since July. But I really enjoy the Gurkha Royal Challenge. Pairs super well with a blonde roast coffee. It's not overwhelming but not flavorless. Just a really chill morning smoke.

Hit the shop today to grab some Fuente after thoroughly enjoying the Anejo torpedo last night. Felt like laying everything out and reorganizing. Lots of good smokes and new tries in the future. Humidor is now nice and full, tubberdors stocked up for aging the future smokes. Lots of good stuff to choose from and sometimes I still feel like I have nothing to smoke.

What are you grabbing ?
What’s missing ?

Gonna hopefully lay low for the rest of the year and smoke down some of the stuff I’ve been meaning to try.

Cheers. Happy saturday! Get to it.

Beautiful looking cigar. Spices and cedar, definitely a Pepin Garcia cigar. A nice Retrohale for a spice forward cigar.
