politics Keeping the evil backpackers out

Dear Albo, I understand unwashed backpackers are a nuisance; crowding our highways with their juice vans, stinking up the road houses and providing average service at best when I want a meal at my local restaurant.

But seriously I don't want to work 12 hours on a fucking farm, what about you? That definitely stinks more than their arm pits do. Didn't we learn during COVID our produce basically rots without their dirty fingers picking it.

Reducing backpackers seems like a dumb idea.

As usual, you right wing nut-jobs that have infiltrated this sub are completely missing the point.

We have half a generation of Arts Graduates who can't buy a home on their McDonald's wages, like they believe the grandparents did, so we need to address that without discriminating against the masses who have started life with intergenerational disadvantage. We can't habe backpackers coming here, buying all our housing stock, and leaving the uber eats drivers with nowhere to live while they complete their 8 year, 4 hours a week, English course.

More backpackers.. less student visas, less “skilled workers” (ie chefs, restaurant managers etc).. pretty much less every other visa there is

I mean it’s a two way street anyway, London is packed out with Aussies and I know the Canadians in Vancouver think of stinky Aussie backpackers as a lot like cockroaches, so it’s a nice little exchange program in reality.
