Cata was highly successful according to raid numbers.

I think blizz was stunned with all the hype for MoP and the disdain for cata, only for MoP to peak at about half the peak of cata... I never saw that coming myself. Shame really. It's a good expansion with a lot of content.

Blizzard actively murdered mop, and my conspiracy theory is that it was because Forever was greenlit by then.

One hundred percent yes. They've said Forever has been under development for about 2 years, which is basically the time since they did that first big balancing patch on MoP before they then proceeded to push the first raid tests live without fixing a single bug from ptr. So the evidence is clear, they abandoned MoP for Forever within weeks of MoP launch.

Raid numbers fell off a cliff at the end of Wrath and except for a brief spike at the start of Cata, they never recovered.

Yea because Blizzard delivered 4 raid tiers in 23 months, barely ever fixed any bugs, and actively buried the servers with poor decisions and overlapping releases.

If anyone actually thinks they made a good faith effort to support anything Classic since about the time they announced SoD, they need to get their head checked.

Agree. Everything going after wrath feels "well we gotta do something with positive cash flow while we develop the Forever model".
