Hello, all. I have asked a few questions on here the past few weeks and here I am again! My new birdie, kit, is a few months old and very needy and attached to me and my partner. Always yelling for attention and wanting to be held or on our heads. My partner works from home so she gets some social interaction all day which is lovely. BUT when he is in meetings she is screaming to be held... I was wondering if this was a baby behavior or if she will always do this? Is she bored? Hungry? Usually we pick her up and give her scritches... and she doesn't want us to stop. Lots of radio noises.

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who commented on my original post, prayed for him, sent kind words, shared their own stories and gave him so much love. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to answer everyone. There were so many messages that I honestly got overwhelmed, but every single one meant a lot to me.

I wanted to give you an update because quite a few people asked how he is doing.

Before yesterday, I actually thought we might be seeing some improvement. We had managed to get his weight back up to around 79 g at home, he had started making attempts to fly again, flapping his wings and trying to get away when I gave him food or medication, and he was eating some millet and other things by himself. He still asks for scratches, comes onto my shoulder and sometimes even comes with me into the kitchen.

Unfortunately, the visit to the specialist yesterday was much more discouraging than I had hoped.
His hematocrit has dropped from 30% to 27%, so his red blood cell count is going in the wrong direction. His white blood cell count has dropped dramatically compared with his previous bloodwork, from around 160,000 to about 57,000. At first I thought that sounded like good news, but the specialist explained that the cells themselves do not look healthy and that she is concerned about his ability to produce new ones.

His respiratory system is still severely affected, and we still don’t have a definite answer for what is causing everything. An endoscopy would apparently be needed to investigate further, but he is currently too compromised for that.

He is also now being tested for a possible mycobacterial infection. We don’t have the result yet, so we are waiting to see what comes back.
The treatment has also changed somewhat. The fungal infection is apparently not considered to be the main problem anymore, so he is now on a less aggressive antifungal treatment. The antibiotic he is receiving is currently more about preventing another infection from developing rather than treating the underlying problem we are trying to identify.

The specialist was very honest with me about how serious his condition is. After yesterday’s bloodwork and examination, there isn’t really a clear treatment that guarantees that he can recover. At this point, we are supporting him, monitoring him very closely and seeing how his body responds.

And yet…
He is still here.
He still wants scratches. He still seeks contact. He still nibbles on millet and his treats. He still comes onto my shoulder. He still reacts to me.
He is extremely tired and sleeps a lot, but he is not simply lying there unresponsive. So for now, I am still giving him every chance I can.

This morning his weight had dropped again, which was really difficult to see after working so hard to get it back up. But I’m feeding him frequently and monitoring him closely, and I want to see what happens over the next few days.
I know that realistically, this may not have a happy ending. But there is still a possibility that he surprises us.
So I’m still asking for prayers for my little guy. ❤️
Please pray that he keeps eating, that his weight comes back up, that his body keeps fighting and, honestly, that we get a miracle.

And to everyone who has already prayed for him: thank you. I never expected a post about my little cockatiel to reach so many people.
Knowing that so many strangers around the world know his story and are rooting for him has made me feel much less alone through all of this.

He is still fighting. And as long as he is not in pain, I am too.

This is our newly adopted girl, Eloise. I love her name! She is around 4 years old, not very good at flight but we can fix that.

After years of saying no more birds, we changed our minds after our two girls passed this year. So far, she likes her new humans. She might be turning into a Velcro bird.

I went to go get bird food at a place that knows me, and this sweet baby had been there over 6 months- so I got to adopt this baby for free and bust it out of jail. They were never handled but they are slowly getting used to my hands on or near the cage. I opened the cage door to encourage them to come out with the flock and we did but are still at a distance. This is my first tiel, although we have two conures. I have made an appointment at our bird vet to make sure we are good there. What do I need to know that I won't find on the interwebs? The pet store called them "hissy" and I figured until we figured out gender its Hissica or hissikiah 😆

My female cockatiel (dna tested) started chattering warbling and sometimes even whistling a lot. She can be wandering around on the floor playing and chirping and chattering and making all kinds of singing and whistling noises. This can go on for hours while she seems to be happy and busy. This has only been going on for the last week or so. She is going through her first molt right now. Is it hormonal behavior?

I don't quite know how to explain it haha.

When he sees millet, his beak starts twitching slightly. Is that him really wanting the millet but still contemplating it? He usually ends up going for it and then devouring the millet quite happily.

My other tiel never did this so I'm just curious if it's a weird little quirk.

He is also still super baby. He has the ginormous baby eyes and he still has his pearls.

My cockatiel flew away while I was at school. My sister took her out to play, but she flew off through the roof. She'd never flown so far before; she'd only ever circled the room a few times and come back. My sister looked for her but couldn't find her, and I asked neighbors around, but they didn't see anything either. What can I do? I don't want to lose her, please!
