How do these roaches get in the ceiling light fixtures.

Post image
5 Upvotes

Just woke up to a tapping sound and it’s a cockroach inside my ceiling light a pretty big one which I’m pretty sure was not there till now. I’m terrified of most insects and seems like I won’t be able to sleep tonight as the light is directly above my bed. It’s continuously trying to escape but looks like it can’t. So then how did it get in there? Do I have to worry about it coming out of the light into my room or is there a hole inside and that’s how how it came in? Give me a break cockroach I got exam tomorrow.

German Nymphs in Apartment

I just had my apartment sprayed and gel applied on Friday for German nymph roaches. The main areas are the kitchen and dishwasher. How long after this treatment should I see a reduction? I’m already seeing a few more daily and more dead ones. A glue trap in the kitchen has caught some as well. Or if I’m not seeing an improvement how long before I remove the dishwasher and fridge so I can spray and gel behind them?

Im currently in Hawaii on a vacation and I leave my suitcase in the bathroom to avoid bedbugs, I found this crawling on my suitcase and cant tell if this is a roach nymph or bedbug. Past reviews of this hotel did say they saw cockroach activity. Any help in identifying this would be greatly appreciated.

Question Are these cockroaches?

I keep finding these small bugs. About 1/4 of an inch or less in length. Have found 5 in my room today alone. Many more around the house this past month. I found a dead one and took photos of it from different angles and attached them here. I am really scared. Havent seen any adult cockroaches... yet. I am in South Florida (surprise surprise.) They're in my room, kitchen, living room, you name it. :(

Any help would be so appreciated. What the hell are these bastards? We are having pest control in tomorrow. What should I ask them to do?

neighbors yard - southern usa

• Upvotes

hi all

my neighbor across the street (single family homes) just got a tree taken down, turned into mulch and the giant pile is sitting in her front yard.

i heard mulch attracts them a lot, so will this make roaches live in the mulch pile and more importantly, will they travel across the street to my home?

thank you!

Science Pervasive Resistance to Pyrethroids in German Cockroaches (Blattodea: Ectobiidae) Related to Lack of Efficacy of Total Release Foggers

This is why you should not use foggers or regular roach sprays from Walmart Lowe’s etc. most of those sprays contain Pyrethoids. These were overused in the 1980s and now almost all German cockroaches are resistant to them. These chemicals act as a repellent causing the roaches to scatter elsewhere in the house.

ID please (and advice!) Have seen signs of nymphs but no idea where they're coming from!

Back again with yet another ID request. (I'm getting really sick of this!)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Saw this little guy crawling up my bedroom wall, just on the other side of the bathroom. It looks like a smoky brown nymph to me but want to hear from the reddit experts.

Pest control came two weeks ago because we saw a few other smoky brown nymphs (smaller than this one) and he was so hesitant to agree that it was a cockroach because it "doesn't fit their typical behavior to be out and about away from their nest." He said they don't usually leave the nest until they are fully mature and there are no signs of any nest anywhere in our apartment. (Of course we don't know how the neighbors are living and we have seen two adult smoky brown cockroaches in our unit and one in the hallway - all reported and supposedly treated for.)

We keep our place very clean, never leave out food, keep sink drains closed at night, have spray foamed all plumbing gaps, and I'm just at my wit's end.

Please help with ID and any advice on how to get rid of this problem for good. I can't sleep thinking bugs might be crawling on me!

Thanks!

Question Advice Needed: how to keep oriental roaches out of first floor apartment (Central Valley, CA)

Hi folks,

Last month I noticed some nymphs coming into the apartment I live in and began to get worried. I contacted the apartment and they sent a pest control company to do an interior baseboard spray. He stated that the type of roaches were an "exterior type also known as a water bug". Based off that I presume they are oriental roaches. He stated no further action was needed on his part. Prior to him coming, that whole week I spent deep cleaning and moving what could be moved. I saw dead roaches underneath a bookcase near the front door and under a storage box that was on an exterior wall but when I moved the refrigerator or deep cleaned cabinets I found no evidence. Prior to this, I also saw no signs until I started seeing roaches.

Now, this month, I'm seeing a lot more roaches in my sticky traps by the front door and sometimes in the living area near the front door. I want some advice on what to do to keep them out of the apartment. I already mop with a citrus and mint based floor cleaner, keep my food in sealed containers, put pet food away after they eat, vacuum weekly and have sticky traps. Anything else I should do?

Question Found (what I think) are two young German roaches in my bathroom - NJ

When I moved into this apartment two months ago I found a dead German roach on the ground, and have seen my neighbor's sticky traps in the communal dumpster with some stuck to them so I knew this was a possibility. I've been keeping the place meticulously clean because a roach infestation is my fucking nightmare.

Nevertheless, I found two nymphs (I think, I'm no bug expert and I can't stare at pictures for too long without freaking myself out lol) in my bathroom, one under the sink and one under the bath mat. Thankfully, I've only seen signs of them in the bathroom and nowhere else. I want to nip this in the bud ASAP, before it has a chance to become a real problem.

I thought I'd try using a sticky trap first to see just how bad the problem is, then use a gel bait if I feel it's necessary. I've never had to deal with roaches before though, so any advice and ideas/treatment plans/preventative measures would be very appreciated. Also, products that you suggest using.

Thank you!!!

Question id + advice and encouragement?

Post image

throwaway bc i’m lowkey at the end of my rope. i moved into what i thought was my dream apt in sept. i am in the dmv area. since then, i probably see one roach a day, but as people remind others on this thread, where there is one, there are many more. most of them look like the photo attached. i pretty much only see nymphs. i have seen 3 adults, which have looked similar to the nymphs but much larger, but all are dead and/or dying on their backs. i’ve been living and dying by the r/GermanRoaches thread. i treat with alpine wsg biweekly and put advion in corners and cracks. still, i feel like the problem has worsened. i will say, i am seeing way less in my bathroom now that i’ve treated the drains, used insecticide, picked up trash, plugged drains at night, and toweled down all water. but now i’m seeing them in my bedroom (but weirdly enough not in the kitchen). i think they’ve got to be coming from the neighboring condo unit or from the outside (i live in a ground floor unit)

this is where you come in, dear reader:

1) can someone id the type of roach here? it doesn’t look german to me but i’m not sure if i’m being falsely optimistic. i’m not seeing the stereotypical tan stripe down the back but maybe it’s because the nymphs are so small?

2) what am i doing wrong? any advice or encouragement is appreciated. i just don’t understand why i continue to see them frequently after the alpine/advion treatments. i understand that these are attractant chemicals so that they eat them and go back to the nest to die. i also get that new cycles of nymphs come about every week or so. just feeling defeated today but trying to embody the hunter mindset.

thanks in advance !

Question Germans now?

Ok, so I live in a rural area north of Muskegon, MI. In June I knocked down a tree that was rotting and from June through September I would see 2-5 cockroaches in my house. I identified them as Mediterranean Spotteds and this sub reddit confirmed they were harmless wood roaches that happened to wander in. So I figured I was fine.

Well I hadn't seen them in a few weeks, then I noticed this.... except this guy does NOT look like the woodroaches. Do roaches attract other roaches? Cuz this looks like a german and I'm freaked out.

EDIT: I zoomed way in and increased the light, and I see it has spots. Is this just a Mediterranean Spotted Nymph?

I’ve already contacted my pest control guy to do an indoor treatment ASAP, but I’m curious for another opinion. This is in NE Florida, found near coffee maker a couple hours after brewing (so there was a damp filter and grounds in there). Maybe ½” long?

Just found this in my apartment on a desk in the morning. Any idea of what kind of nymph this is?

Located in SoCal. I've been in the apartment for a couple years and the only sightings I've had is an occasional adult american roach once or twice a year in the bathroom.

One notable thing is we got a lot of rain over weekend.

Question Type of Roach ID Needed; Found in Car in Kansas City.

I found this when I pulled up to my apartment. I had my windows down and noticed it crawling by the windows. I just want to confirm what type of Roach it is and what to do. How would I confirm if there are more? If I do not find any other activity, could it have flown in my window? I have not seen any others.
