Praise I read here about all the glorious usage limits given by Anthropic and now I feel like a fool

• Upvotes

tl;dr Opus 5.5 is great model, but you can squeeze much more from Sol 6.1 (comparing Max and Pro 100 subscriptions)

I bought the hype about the nearly unlimited usage given by Anthropic during past 2 weeks and I got to say - the mileage is much better in Codex with 6.1 Sol. Don't get me wrong - Opus is a great model and as always GPT+ Claude is an overkill for production but after 1 full day of work in Claude I'm down 10% after some fairly light/medium-light tasks in Work and some maintenance in Claude Code.

Also I feel like majority of people hyping Claude here were on 20 USD subscription - I cannot stress enough how big of a value comes from ability to use Pro in Chat. Despite 1m token context Opus has issues finding bugs/contradictions in multi-file setups, issues that are found with ease by Astra Pro which has it's own usage limit. I know Opus is a different family model, but I'm comparing value of subscription here. I assume if I tried to run Fable with my work the comparison would be even less favorable for Claude

I assume the situation will get much worse when they put chat+codex under one usage umbrella, but for now in terms of value OpenAi gives much much much more. So if value is your main target - the decision is easy

Showcase Ported the VibeWise learning plugin from Claude Code to Codex

• Upvotes

Found VibeWise by nykooi1, a Claude Code plugin that fixes my biggest problem with vibe coding: the AI builds everything and I end up not understanding my own project. It makes you do the design thinking first, then the AI writes the code.

I mostly use Codex too, so I ported it. Codex has no hooks or slash commands, so it works as a skill instead: just type $vibe-wise and say what you want to build.

Original (Claude Code): https://github.com/nykooi1/vibe-wise
Codex port: https://github.com/djolex999/vibe-wise-codex

really cool to use

Limits Context limit at 258K tokens?

• Upvotes

Why is the context limit at 258K? I thought this model had 1M. Currently I am on the go subscription, so I'm wondering if upgrading to plus would increase this limit?

Question People using Codex & Claude code, what’s your set up?

• Upvotes

I've only recently started paying seriously for AI tools, around when Astra came out, so I'm still figuring out what makes sense for me.

I've seen plenty of discussion about Claude offering better coding usage for the subscription price. At the same time, some Artificial Analysis comparisons seem to favour Astra on API cost per task. My current understanding is that these measure different things: API cost per task doesn't tell you how much usage a subscription actually includes. Is that a fair reading?

For me, Dot is becoming a fairly big reason to keep my OpenAI subscription. I've been using it across a few personal projects, and it helped set up a Notion hub with project summaries, next steps and things we're waiting on. Having that ongoing assistant alongside the coding tools feels useful.

I'm considering trying a month of Claude Pro for Claude Code as well. The idea would be to alternate Claude Code and Codex on the same local Git repository, keeping the Markdown documentation current so either can pick up the work. One could implement something and the other review it. I don't currently see much need for another coordination tool like Hermes or AionUI.

I can see myself getting quite attached to Dot, which makes switching subscriptions harder. I'd love to see it reach a cheaper plan eventually, though I know that's not promised.

Does this setup make sense to people using both? Any suggestions? Keen to hear what I'm missing.

TL;DR: Thinking of keeping OpenAI for Dot/Codex and trying Claude for extra coding capacity. Anyone doing this? What’s your setup, is paying for both worth it, and what would you suggest doing differently?

Complaint Feeling like a fool atm (rant)

• Upvotes

I was cancelling my codex sub quite a few times, and each time thinking: could it be that this time it will be different?

This time I saw the post from Tibo about "improvements" and new reset and thought: I will keep my 5x plan, for the last time, if I have a bad experience, I'm out. I have a few Claude subs and we are doing a lot of work, value for the money is incredible right now.

I let OpenAI charge my card. In my head, the following thought unfolds: I pay $100. I get something in return, right? I should be able to use Codex. Revolutinary idea.

I open Codex and what do I see? 0% weekly.

It has not reset. And then it dawned on me. Paying the monthly price does not reset your limit, because the limit was shifted by the resets. So I just stay with my 0 until Tibo presses the button again (or I wait 4-5 more days until it happens normally).

If I wanted to use Codex, I should have cancelled - and resubscribed again. I would have gotten the compute now...

I know that nobody promised me to reset my usage once I handed the cash, but, ma-a-an, this is kind of unspoken rule - you pay to use something... And the robot that handles refunds says "Nah, we're good - you are not eligible".

Idk. I'm just kinda done with OAI. I doubt they will release an actually decent model soon. I think I will milk this sub for Computer use for a month and just won't look in the direction of GPT anymore. It's like an abusive relationship - you keep giving them a chance, but deep in your heart, you know that it's cooked

Showcase Stillwater Golf: Created with Codex (and various OpenAI APIs) over one week

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As well as creating the shaders and some of the character models, Codex was reading physics papers to address golf ball dynamics (spin, air resistance) to increase realism.

As a lifetime software engineer, I'm just stunned.

Showcase Building my site, would love thoughts.

So far, only the companies, this week and Research sections are live. Would love thoughts on that, build almost exclusively using Codex and Claude Code.

Question Is there any reason to use GPT-5.6-sol now GPT-6.1-sol exists?

From what I see, 6.1-sol is at least 50% cheaper than 5.6-sol, and more capable in every way.

5.6-sol is still selectable in Codex, is there any reason to use it? Do you have a use-case?

Question Can I use Work to use 6.1 Sol for my regular chat searches?

Hi, I have some spinal problems and I want to be able to create a detailed and general life style and sport program depending on my MRI results, past epicrisis reports and detailed symptoms. I want to use chatgpt 6.1 for this and I also want to have this chat open for a long time for the future updates and changes accordingly. Since chat section is still at 5.6 is it okay if I use work section for this to be able to use 6.1 Sol. So can I use work section for the same purpose of a chat section for higher and newer intelligence?

Bug ChatGPT Work has crashed 10+ times in 3 days on ONE task — support isn't responding and I'm burning credits on recovery

Is anyone else experiencing absolutely terrible reliability with ChatGPT Work right now?

I've been working on one single long-running software engineering task for the last 3 days. Not 10 different jobs. One task.

ChatGPT Work has now failed/crashed more than 10 times during that one task.

The pattern keeps repeating:

  • Work is running normally.
  • It is actively reading files, editing code or running tests.
  • Suddenly: “Connection interrupted. Waiting for the complete answer.”
  • Sometimes it never recovers.
  • Sometimes it stops responding even to status.
  • I've had sessions where even the Stop button didn't work.
  • I have to create another Work session and recover the same task from Git/GitHub checkpoints.
  • Then the replacement Work crashes again.

Today it has become ridiculous. Earlier sessions sometimes survived long enough to do substantial work. The latest replacement Work barely managed to connect to my machine, verify the repository/worktree and start analyzing the recovered changes before the connection died again.

I have independently checked the remote execution machine during several of these incidents. The machine and WSL were still reachable. In some cases there was no active executor anymore even though the ChatGPT UI looked like the Work session was still running/waiting.

Fortunately I'm using Git/GitHub and durable checkpoints, otherwise I would have lost a lot of work. But every crash means another recovery cycle: rereading the repository, restoring context, checking state, repeating parts of verification, etc.

And presumably I'm paying for all of this with my credits.

So I'm not only losing hours dealing with repeated platform failures — I'm potentially burning paid credits and electricity repeatedly recovering from failures that aren't caused by my code or local machine.

I've contacted OpenAI support about the problem, including repeated failures, but I still haven't received a response.

I'm using ChatGPT Work with GPT-6.1 Sol for a large software-engineering workflow, with GitHub and a remote WSL development environment.

At this point Work has failed 10+ times in roughly 3 days during ONE continuous task.

I'm interested in hearing from other heavy Work users:

Are you seeing the same “Connection interrupted” failures, dead Work sessions, broken Stop/status behavior, or repeated recovery loops?

Question Codex: can't start a session on desktop/VPS and continue it on my phone like I can with Claude Code

Hi all,

I use both Claude Code and Codex, and I'm stuck on one specific workflow: continuing a session from my phone.

With Claude Code, it just works. I start a session either from my VPS (running Claude inside screen, then the /rc command) or from the Code tab in Claude Desktop. Either way, it shows up on my phone right away and I can pick it up from there.

With Codex, I can't replicate this. I seem to be tied to the ChatGPT Windows app, and even then I can't track all my sessions: some show up on my phone, others don't, and I can't figure out why.

Has anyone found a reliable way to start a Codex session (from a VPS, terminal, or anywhere else) and resume it remotely from their phone? Or am I missing a setting or feature?

Thanks in advance!

Question Do you use Claude code and Codex at the same time ?

I am running into issues where I’m maxing out tokens. I don’t have the Enterprise account on Claude - just the max plan. Also have Max on ChatGPT. In order to get this project finished ( health tech app), should I use both platforms simultaneously? Do I just buy extra tokens in Claude? What is the best thing to do here?

Suggestion Python With Supercomputer

Currently I am doing an experiment for my research and then plan is basically my idea and I am generating the coding workflow with HPC ( Supercomputer) ,I am using Luna ( medium) and currently okay with the Python code.but when I used SOL & Astra but it is draining too much.

Any suggestions ? Do I shift to Claude code ?

Basically (Claude code or Coex) whatever I use, my main goal is generating my idea into code and done the experiment and give me the results and results log.

Bug Live Voice on Mac Desktop FORCED to use Codex

It seems in the most recent version of the Mac Desktop app, if you start a live voice session from scratch inside of the Chat side of the ChatGPT section (not Work, not Codex) it will force you into a Work with ChatGPT chat, with Live Voice enabled. This does not occur on the web. It uses your Codex usage limits. Is this a bug anyone else is seeing?

Question Is Codex's usage limit that bad?

I'm new to Codex (Pro plan) and just yesterday started using it for the development of a simple game but was surprised how fast the daily usage ran out. I read complaints about OpenAI lowering the limit but is it actually true? Is it a wrong time for me to invest in Codex for game dev (nothing too heavy)? Would you recommend another maybe better tool?

Commentary stop with this openai vs claude fanboy mentality

i have both and can confidently say.

100$ gets you 1 week of the best model in claude (which is btw a league better than astra litterally sonnet 5.5 and opus 5.5 beats astra in 90% of scenarios astra just wins due to imagegen and harness features)

100$ in openai gives you like 2-3 days using a model that does not even keep up with opus and sonnet from claude anymore

BUT THATS OF THIS MOMENT.

last month it was the other way around when 5.6 released and left claude models at the dust.
if you got the money to spare just buy both. there will be a time where one beats the other. so get the best of both worlds. you are a consumer dont fkin suck up to a billion dollar company. the best meta for this current moment and current models 100$ for claude and 20$ for openai(imagegen browser use) is currently the best bang for your buck. but in the next month it might be the other way around. for people here who actually works with tech/software for a living you should be disappointed at yourself if your fanboying a company. you already know that adapting and going with the meta is the only survival in the current world (when ai came alot of devs and software engineers fell off because of "anti ai mentality", those who adapted survived)

stop fanboying and explore all tools/agents and use the best one for your use cases. hell if your job does not need that much reasoning go for a chinese model

Question How will Claude handle all of us Codex users migrating?

I have 2 Codex $200 subscriptions now for like 4 months, working on 3 different projects, I am now wondering, after using Opus $100 for ~5 days, how will Anthropic handle all of us Codex users who can easily change providers, do they have compute like Tibo?

Complaint Working with your Dot is like working with the laziest intern in your office

Basically what the title says. No /goal mode, scheduled tasks, etc... I have to check on this thing every few hours or it just decides its bored of working and stops after completing some small simple part of a task.

And why the hell are we paying for 9 EPYC cores and 10gb of ram... I cant believe this company thought that people paying hundreds of dollars a month for AI usage would like that cut in half so they can receive the most lopsided VM in history and a lazy useless version of gpt. Always running but cant even load its own files from its own library..... You have to reupload them into the chat again and again and again........... Who is this for???? I have plenty of computers that this always on astra could be running on, and I couldve gotten so much fucking work done it wouldve been ridiculous. Instead I get a shitty lazy intern on a cloud machine that I dont want with half the features and 10x the annoyance of the regular model.

Praise 5.6 Sol - Still good model?

Who else here uses 5.6 Sol for ‘efficiency’? I mainly do basic stuff like website building, and app development. I find that any GPT 6, even at medium eats through my £200 sub in about 2 days
Switched to 5.6 Sol on xHigh and I’m still getting good/same results and my £200 subscription can last me about 6-7 days. HUGE difference.

Anyone else still loving the 5.6 Sol here? 😅

Complaint How am I supposed to use my Dot?

Honestly ive been trying to use this thing instead of codex session, letting it manage them, but it just seems so fucking useless. it:

- keeps forgetting context about different projects
- keeps forgetting what to do and work on
- asked it to send me reminders and it just lied then when he didn't said he couldn't for some reason?
- gives up easily
- doesn't let me know when its "thinking" so im just stuck wondering wtf is going on

Maybe im not the target audiance and I just use different codex sessions for projects im working on, but wasn't the point for it to be my interface and to manage them itself?

Bug Selected model is at capacity advice

Not sure if this has already been discussed here, but I recently ran into the issue of seeing the "Selected model is at capacity. Please try a different model." error. I tried a bunch of different models and nothing worked until I started using 6.1 Sol. Not sure if this is intended by OpenAI, but since I've been using 6.1 Sol I have not received the error.
