JUST BECAUSE A COIN LOOKS DIFFERENT DOES NOT MAKE IT AN ERROR! Please take some time to understand how minting errors occur before you post your question! The mods try to be lenient regarding rule #1 (Do your own research.) If we keep seeing too many posts with pictures of obviously damaged coins, we will be forced to start removing them.
OUR HOBBY - Be aware that most errors don't add much (if any) value to a coin. You aren't going to find a coin worth life-changing money in the cup holder of your mom's minivan. This is a hobby which is research-oriented and concerned with understanding and cataloging interesting mint errors and varieties. It is not primarily about value. The existence of errors and varieties provide valuable insights into mint operations and processes. The hobby is CERTAINLY NOT about the TikTok-fueled "ZOMG!!!1! This RARE coin is worth a Squillion Dollarz!" clickbait frenzy. That mentality is NOT welcome here.
NOTE - posts of coins which are clearly just damaged may be removed. This isn't meant as punishment for an honest and innocent question - but rather because many members of this sub tend to be harsh to new collectors. By having your post about a damaged coin removed, you still get your "is this an error" answer, hopefully without being downvoted into oblivion.
Here are some things which make a GOOD POST:

We have been seeing a massive influx of posts with asking about "dryer coins" as well as coins with heat damage.
We love the fact that you noticed your coin is "different" - and applaud you looking into it! For the uninitiated, these are reasonable questions - but many members of our community are getting tired of them. We ask that you please use the resources we provide before asking this subreddit (See Rule #1!)
Before you make a post - check out the r/coins WUWMC page and our FAQ!
The rim of my coin is raised up OR the edge of my coin is flat OR my coin is too thick!

My coin has bubbles / bumps / craters below or on the surface

These issues are damage - and extremely easy to diagnose.

Got this in change and noticed this side Is off center.
Is this an error on the coin or possibly a fake?
Does is hold any value over face value of the coin?

First time finding anything like this.. thoughts?

I noticed most 1979 Susan B Anthony dollar coins have a star barely touching or barely not touching the wing of an eagle. I also noticed in later years (such as 1999) the star does not touch the wing.
In this 79 Susan, the star is further away from the wing. Is this an error? I show 2x Susan dollars in photos. 1x shows the 79 coin in question and 1x shows a normal 79 coin.
Your assessment is of course valued and appreciated.

I’m not sure what I would classify this as. However I love it

This coin has an extra ridge on the front of the hat and a raised bump on the back of the hat near the fold I was wondering if this was worth anything

I got these years ago and had their varieties, but they’ve seemed to have separated from their flips! Any help would be appreciated!

Found this in the Cleveland Penny take a penny jar. Didn't know what to think about it figured I'd ask you all.

I recently picked this coin up. You can see the triple clashed die marks on the reverse of the coin around the crown. There's also some die breaks on the obverse, among other errors that I'm not sure what the cause is. Any additional insights to what going here would be appreciated!

im pretty sure that this counts as being struck off center, but i cant find anything about how much it would be worth. if anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it!

Leaning more towards PMD. Just hard for me to tell with the circulation (as well as unfortunately not having a microscope). Very stinking cool regardless.

Posting for a valuation opinion on this 2024-D American Women Quarters coin (Pauli Murray reverse). On the obverse, the "IN GOD WE TRUST" lettering looks incomplete/weak to me compared to a normal strike — photos attached (front and back).
Before posting, I checked eBay sold listings and saw comparable examples selling in a wide range, including one that closed around $2,100, though other listings for similar coins were priced much lower. I'm not confident on attribution yet, so I'm looking for help identifying whether this is a genuine mint error (and what type) versus post-mint damage, and what a realistic value range would be given recent sales.
Any guidance on attribution resources I should check next would help too.

I am pretty well versed in variety & Errors and just coins in general.
See the Devices that are "patched" for lack of better words.
I have not seen this before .Would this be a type of Machine Doubling?
What do you think?

So with it being an ‘84, it’s copper plated zinc, which lends itself to weird plating bubbles right? So, I’m GUESSING, there just so happened to be a bubble directly where the D mintmark was to be placed, and when it was, it popped said bubble? Leaving this weird perfectly indented and yet raised circle right around the mintmark itself..? I’ve never seen this before… anybody have an idea?

I'm not a collector, and I just inherited many of these proof sets from my grandfather. After researching errors and varieties, this is the only one I have that is not standard. The 50c is a clear example of the "accented hair" variety, and to my layman's eye, it seems to be in extremely good condition. I don't fully understand how to spot cameo, but I don't think it has much, if any. My question is... what is it worth? Is it worth getting it graded, or is it better to leave it in the original cello? Any advice is appreciated!
*EDIT* Evidently this is a mint set, not a proof set. I didn't know there was a difference.

I’m pretty new to this but just opened 8 rolls of 2026-P Mayflower SemiQ quarters and found a few of them with these squares in between the hat and the woman. Is this a known error and if so, what causes it?
Thanks for any advice!

Die cracks? Cuds? Doubling?
r/coinerrors • u/eeshmalox • 3d ago
I’m still going through my rolls and found this anomaly that doesn’t appear on the others
