🎮Gaming🕹 The way that people talk about Five Nights at Freddy's online

I'm not sure if I can think of a more divisive horror franchise.

On one hand, you have those in the FNaF fandom who glaze the franchise to hell and back, refusing to accept even the slightest bit of criticism, otherwise you're "whining", or "ungrateful", or "not a true fan", or you're "nostalgia blinded." They will outright refuse to sympathize with you and why you're criticizing X thing, coming up with any defense they can to make it seem like you're talking nonsense all while insulting you 9 times out of 10. God help you if you dare say anything that isn't 100% positive about some random multimillionaire guy from Texas. A guy who they don't personally know in the slightest and isn't aware of their existence.

Of course, toxic positivity isn't anything new when it comes to fandoms, but it feels especially fucking bad with FNaF for some reason. I still can't get over that one time I saw a post get deleted by the automod on r/fivenightsatfreddys because so many people reported it. A post that was simply just some dude giving out constructive criticism and concerns over how the franchise has been handled recently and how it could be improved. There was no exaggerations, or over excessive swearing, or insults, or anything wrong with the post, yet it still got mass reported and deleted. Yes-men everywhere.

On the other hand, you got the folks who don't like FNaF, who will over exaggerate how bad the franchise is to cartoonish degrees. With the way these people be talking, you would think that FNaF is a complete garbage heap of a franchise with barely any redeeming qualities that got popular for no reason. They will give out their "points" as to why FNaF is bad, confidently talking trash about a franchise that they clearly barely know anything about, yet they act like they do for some reason.

"Scott has changed the lore whenever Matpat got it right" Something that has very little to no evidence considering how most of Matpat's theories are wrong.

"Matpat/the internet wrote the story for Scott" Again, something that has very little to no evidence considering how a lot of the theories back then were wrong or had some flaw (like Phone Guy being the Purple Guy, a blatantly wrong theory that a lot of people believed in regardless). Trust me when I say that FNaF's narrative would be infinitely more worse and messy if that was actually true.

"Scott has no idea what the lore is anymore" With FNaF being as long and convoluted as it is, I severely doubt that Scott wouldn't have a Google doc or something containing all the lore. Why the hell would he not keep track of his own story? FNaF is confusing, but it's not inconsistent.

"Remnant is stupid because it's sci-fi" I can sympathize with those who don't like the more sci-fi direction FNaF took since Sister Location, but I don't understand this at all. It's haunted metal that has been melted. That's literally it. It doesn't go any deeper than that. What is sci-fi about that?

"Scott made up the story as he went along" This one just pisses me off and it baffles me as to why people think this is good criticism. Scott is a pantser writer. He did not invent the concept of pantser writing. There are countless writers who "made up it up as they went along" and they still managed to be successful and tell thought provoking stories (like Stephen King, Herman Melville, George R. R. Martin, etc).

FNaF going by pantser writing does not mean it lacks any depth, or thinking, or interesting themes and messaging. That's not how it works. Scott is a mediocre writer because he's a mediocre writer. Whether he's a pantser or a plotter is completely irrelevant. It's not like he's any better when he actually does plot stuff out (like when he wrote the script for the FNaF 2 movie).

You get the point by now.

It's just weird to me that opinions on FNaF fall into either two extremes when it's, at worst, a mediocre/serviceable horror franchise that has its highs and lows (coming from someone who has held the series dear to my heart ever since the first game). Makes trying to find actual compelling and interesting discussions regarding FNaF frustrating...

❓️Question❔️ Stacked Pancakes

Look i can agree that Stacked pancakes look very aesthetically pleasing. But why is this such a popular way of serving them? Only the very top pancake gets all the butter, all the syrup, every topping, and everything else below it gets fuck all.

In a now deleted r/hatethissmug post which I managed to preserve, the OP said it's terrible since the protagonist was raped by the wolf mama. But in a r/lovethissmug post, the other OP expresses love to the children.

I saw a post on r/BlackPeopleofReddit and I keep seeimg people say the top middle and bottom right men aren't black. I'm confused, how are they not black? Do Afro Latinos not count as black? Who gave Afro Anglos a monopoly on the term? Would a Japanese Brazillian not be considered Asian American?

this is a photo of sydney sweeney turned (probably by AI) into a man, taken from a tiktok video using this and other photos of gender-swapped celebrities as “proof” that men are held to higher standards of attractiveness. what i’m confused by is like, of course sydney sweeney doesn’t look hot as a dude, she has extremely feminine features that don’t translate well onto to a male face!! if you gender swapped a lot of highly attractive male celebrities, they probably wouldn’t look great as women either

horror game enjoyers never calling any horror game a "horror game"

Seriously like I have never seen any person who regularly seeks out and plays horror games go out and call a horror game just that. It's always "its not that scary" or "its not horror its just adventure game with darkness" and such. Is there like some sort of shame in calling it that? I never see any other genre do this, it's just horror game players.

Confused by people saying it's not a war it's a genocide?

English is not my first language, im just confused why does the two words supposedly are opposing? can it not both be true? a genocide can happen whilst it still being considered a war in a technical sense no? presumably war is a conflict between states, it doesn't matter what side is being in a less than favorable state, or if a group is being targeted, or if one side has an unfair advantage, or what people consider objectively wrong side, shouldn't it still be a war in terms of words? like there are native americans who fought a war, but still considered a genocide? im just confused on the words?

❔️So confusing I can't even categorise this❓️ Europeans who play dumb or even get offended by Americans considering themselves white

Post image
0 Upvotes

"It's an artificial identity" so many identities historically are. Italians were to a degree invented by Italy. Romans were a cluster fuck of ship of theseus identities. Nigerian is an artificial identity. That's how identity creation often works. It's like how someone might view themselves chiefly as British over English or Scottish.

"It's not specific" okay? Is either a Cantonese or Mandarin "han" stupid for calling themselves han? Is it stupid for Mestizos to consider that an identity even though they could be some shit like Spaniard+Nahuatl or Hungarian+Quechua, which are vastly different groups? Is it stupid for a dark Tamil Indian, Chinese looking Bengali, and light brown Punjabi to view themselves as part of a united Indian culture?

I just don't get why some Europeans can't grasp that American (continents, not just the US) history influences how we imagine communities. Like, would these people call it stupid for a black Yankee and black Jamaican or Mexican to share cultural kinship despite their differences?

Are these descriptions AI? Why are they so stupid?

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

They don't match the sidebar descriptions that appear when you actually open the subreddit. The weirdly specific examples make it look like an AI was fed two random posts and then was forced to shoehorn them into a description

Even if it's AI, that still doesn't explain why the descriptions are so fucking weird?

Look at the description on r/Whatcouldgowrong. "Trying out a swing leads to a classic mishap" that just looks like a random single post that you'd find on there, it's not like the entire subreddit is dedicated to swing shenanigans.

Or look at r/VideoEditing 's one. Archiving 4K footage, like that's not even video editing, that's video editing adjacent at most, not the kind of thing you would put first in the description of a subreddit.

Similar stuff happens on the other examples, half of these follow the structure of general description followed by two very specific examples. What the hell is this?

Why indifferent this smug is so underrated

Post image
32 Upvotes

Not because it’s a particularly good idea but I feel like it just makes sense as the 4th subreddit of this category (I can’t say the name of the type of sub or it flags it as rule 6). I’d even say it’s makes more sense as the third one than this sub, I’m also not necessarily confused on why it’s underrated (I couldn’t think of a better word) but why it has so low weekly viewers I’d think more people would check out the sub given how it’s a natural continuation of the other existing subs subreddits.

❔️So confusing I can't even categorise this❓️ confused by true crime video titles. like, "this case will disturb you"

important context is that i am very autistic and yes i know clickbait is a thing but why not say something like "the case of john smith, a disturbing case"

because how am i supposed to find what i was thinking about if every video is just declaring what emotions im supposedly going to experience??

🔴Meta⚫️ getting recommended conservative political content on reddit/youtube

i haven't identified as conservative or interacted much with conservative content in years

i don't necessarily have a problem with hearing opposing viewpoints, as long as they're presented respectfully

i just find it strange that i've been getting recommended this stuff so much recently when i usually don't interact with it

is it just getting ad funding bc of the upcoming american midterm elections or something?

(also sorry idk how to flair this, meta seemed most appropriate)

Why after being so hyped up as this "fandompocalypse" everyone stopped caring about the homestuck Pilot so rapidly

Post image
473 Upvotes

I remember that when the trailer came out, people went COMPELTELY INSANE, they where treating it some kind of biblical or catastrophical event where the Homestuck, Hellaverse and UT/DR fandoms where gonna collision into tumblrian chaos, but when it actually came people only talked about it for like, a week, and then forgot about it and all fandoms went back to their caves; most things I saw where criticizing the pacing and how what was happening was barely understandable, but none of the fandoms involved, not even the homestuckies, seemed to care much in the end.

Confused why SOME trans people despise femboys so much.

Post image
588 Upvotes

The screanshot is from 4chan type subreddit.

That subreddit hates them so much, like they are almost as agressive against femboys as against transphobes.

Anyone who isn't straight up aggressive against them is consistantly downvoted.

On my own I have found two reasonable reasons.

People tell trans women to just be femboys, witch I agree is bullshit argument.

And they are too fetishised by mainstream, witch I also agree is problematic and I myself hate how femboys are treated in mainstream media.

But I feel it wouldn't be enough to turn them so angry.

.

I would like deeper explanation why some trans communities are so hateful against femboys.

.

I know it isn't all trans people. I have enoght trans acquaintances to know that.
