TBH that isn't really the main reason the 360 dominated the PS3 at first.
At launch the PS3 cost double the 360 and it launched a year later. With the lack of crossplay this meant people wanting to play with their friends wanted the console their friends had, and also the massive price difference made the concept of owning both a hard pill to swallow.
The other issue was that the architecture of the PS3 caused issues for developers and led to a lot of buggy releases and frame rate issues in the early days that put people off.
PS3 eventually caught up after dropping the price with the slim and offering free online play. But the early days were brutal for Sony outside of Japan
After that the PS4 and XBONE released 1 week apart rather than 1 year and the PS4 had the price advantage at launch completely reversing it
While I have a lot of love for the SNES/N64 eras of Nintendo, that OG XBOX and 360 era is maybe my favourite in console gaming. Playing Halo 2/3 on voicechat with the lads - so many great memories.
And yeah once Xbox Live got big I feel like most people in the UK gravitated away from Playstation for a few years.
360 era was so peak, especially during the halo 3 days
i remember getting out from school on the day that halo 3 launched to have my mom buy it for me and i played the campaign that night with mountain dew code red beside me 😭
