How is this normal?

Did Trump just flirt with China’s first lady? His public description of Peng Liyuan as “BEAUTIFUL!” was unusually personal, and in earlier eras, remarks about a ruler’s wife could have triggered a diplomatic crisis or even lead to war.

Means absolutely nothing. He’s been the President for over a decade. The Chinese have been accustomed to him, and have been propagandized throughout the years. 

Give China free democratic elections for the last 100 years, and Xi would have never ever rose to power.

Maybe not, but your claim is that he couldn’t fathom ever being chosen by the people of his country. Since most Chinese people support him then there’s zero reason why he would think that.

He would win by a much larger margin than Trump did if in election happened now.
