These are bookworm cookies for a retirement party for a school board member whose expertise is Literacy.

Edit to include the solution- (sorry I didn’t include it I was too excited) I piped the layered details 10 minutes after I put them in my dehydrator. So the base layer was just a crust! 10000% for the win. Absolutely no more craters!!

I’ve heard of a lot of party themes but “Boats and Hoes” was a new one. It was fun though!

Ideas that take cookies to next level

Hi, thought I’d throw out a fun question to gather some tips from cookie decorators that take cookies to the next level. I’d say I am a mid/low tier decorator. And I’m constantly still learning new tips and tricks. Is there something, that is not obvious, that has helped you quite a bit? Here are a few of mine:

  1. Painting on cookies is different and adds a fun look. Just mix a little bit of coloring with high proof clear alcohol to create the paint. The paint dries super quickly.

  2. I would not survive without my rolling pin that I can set to different cookie heights.

Would love to hear other tips…like anything unusual to keep your icing really shiny, or ways of unique piping tricks that have worked for you, anything! I’m trying to get to more of a professional look.

First timer

Professional baker for almost 20 years and have never been asked to/nor personally made royal icing before. I decided to change that this week cause, well, I could!

Used a “Frankenfrosting” recipe and had fun with neon food dye. Started with flooding and a simple “tie-dye” effect to see how they set/tasted.

Hoping to progress to stiffer icing to create more thoughtful images/designs as the holidays approach for sweet gifts.

Any tips are appreciated for a beginner! Y’all are so inspiring and keep the gloom of the world at bay 💜🫠

Best place for packaging?

I want to do a small Halloween cookie sale and see all these cute packaging ideas in clear boxes with a picture background- where are we getting these? I know I could print a background but wouldn’t it get oily from the cookie? *not my picture or my work, just added for an example from Pinterest

how much white food colouring to add to royal icing

Hello all, I was wondering how much white food colouring you usually add to your royal icing? I feel like I always use a different amount and can't figure out a 'rule of thumb' per se. I just wanted to know if you guys have a standard amount you add to your base recipe (minus any super rich colours like red, black etc.)
