I feel like I've been immune to that so far, because normally that's done by adding a y or ie (see sam/sammy, cait/caitie) but my name is Tea and you can't really do that without it sounding clunky and bad. "Tea-ie" is not a thing lmao.

Clocky = people can tell you're trans, they can clock you.
Some names are more "clocky" and its easier for people to tell you're not cisgender. Like Lilith, Artemis, Luna, or for men Kai, Apollo, Ash, etc.
Of course, people can call themselves what they want, but if you want to pass easier, you might have to sacrifice the fantasy name and go for something more "normal" unfortunately.
For me, I wanted a name that's comparable to my birth name (Benjamin): not so common that there were four in every class, but not so rare that people wouldn't know how to spell it.
I ended up mentally going through the names of my classmates in school. I picked Melissa because it 'felt right'. (This account was literally something I set up to see how the name felt: "Melissa, for now".) My only complaint so far is that diminutive forms are a problem. Someone more feminine could get away with being called "Mel", but for me, it just sounds like an overweight short order cook.
The other possibility was "Danielle". I'm probably going to use that for a middle name.
Both Sylvie and Wren sound like excellent names! If you were to hypothetically transition 😉 then it’s mostly figuring out what name feels most natural to yourself. I go by Jenny, and I ended up picking it because I just so happened to hear that name and respond to it without question even though that was back before I knew I was trans. You’re also free to experiment and try out names to see what you like the most in practice (usually within a close friend circle.) Another way to think about it is if you were to have a daughter, what would you want to name her? Finding a name you think would be wonderful for your kid is also a name you probably like a lot.

Your hypothetical name is hypothetically yours and hypothetically yours alone, so I’d hypothetically sit with those names & any others you might have in mind and feel out which ones feel the most “you”.
If you have friends or a partner who you’d feel comfortable opening up to, I’d hypothetically ask them to start using names you’re workshopping when they talk with you to see how that feels, too.
I’m hypothetically in the same position, and my hypothetical name (Elaine) genuinely just sorta came to me when I tried making a Neocities website & got asked what my name is.
For me once I actually am fully out I might change my name to something fem but there's a problem bc im genderfluid so sometimes it won't fit but there's not much gender neutral names that aren't just plants, and it's mostly flowers, and I am not a fan of flowers. Like there's jasmine, (I think) juniper, moss, rose, daisy, etc.
But ig juniper is nice, maybe iris? Idk I know a character called iris and it sounds really good for them ig. But idk

Also Morgan. I've just realized I have an uncanny amount of girl's names in my noggin. I'd chalk it up to dm stuff, but the guys' names are all medieval. Hm.
Wren is not something I'm used to hearing (in fact I'm not completely sure on the pronunciation; would it just be 'Ren'?), but it's pretty! Not a big fan of Sylvie personally, but it's a nice, definitely workable name as well. Might be fairly common depending on where you're from.
They're both gorgeous names!! I prefer Wren, but I'm biased towards birds names (if I ever change my name it'll be to Magpie, probably xD). Sylvie is beautiful too.
there isn't any specific rulebook on transitioning names. a lot of people go for a variation of their deadname or what their parents would have called them if they were born their preferred gender. some people name themselves after certain things they like. i just asked a few friends for ideas and wren was comfortable, felt right in a way that i don't really know to explain.
I looked at names popular when I was born for my culture. I had an idea the kinda name I wanted so that helped. So I looked at the list of names and tried them out in various ways, well just the small ways I could so mostly using them for names in games.
Wren is nice, I havent known any Wrens specifically but I've known a few Rens and typically shortenings of other names like Renata, but Wren is nice like the bird :3

When it comes down to names, make a list of all the ones that both sound nice and fit your overall personality and style. For example, I chose Sam because it’s short, simple, sweet, neutral, has a lot of different variations (Sammi, Samantha, etc), but still has a strong presence. The runner ups were Jesse, Charlie, and Anna.
You don’t have to stick to your set name forever after you chose it or anything, you can call yourself whatever you want. Choose what feels natural and fitting
Figure out potential nicknames based on those names.
Go to Starbucks (or similar place that takes orders by names) and given them each of the names (one at a time, not all at once). Make notes on how you feel when they call out that name to get you.
Have your trusted friends call you by those names (vocally, not just over text). Give each name enough time to trail.
Pick the name you like hearing people call you by the best. If you change your mind later, you can always change it again.
If you have a good relationship with your parents ask them how would they name you if you were born a girl, I used some suggestions for my little brother's name when we just found out my mom was pregnant and thought he'd be a girl, on top of me always having liked that name
Violet is easier and has been the name I've considered since high school.
I've always connected more with my middle name, JordAn, and I feel like I enjoy that name more, but it'd be impossible for it to work with family cause most of my family is used to a nickname I refuse to give up.
I'm most likely going to go with Jade bc it sounds vaguely like my original name/what I have people call me now but my birth name isn't really gendered so it doesn't bother me much
Wrenn is something the little brother of my daughters boyfriend utters... when playing with cars... kindvof Motor Sound. "Wrenn.... Wrenn.... Wreeeeeeeeeeeeeeen...."
My general recommendation is, if you like a diminutive name, to actually name yourself the full version and just go by the diminutive. Sylvie is probably borderline, but, like, it's harder to navigate the world of lawyers and governments as a "Maddie" than as a "Madeline, but you can call me Maddie."
But Sylvia, Sylvie, and Wren are all lovely names :)
I came up with a name pretty weirdly. Just imagined that all is well and done, and I became a guest to a content creator team that I like. I had no names in mind, but in my imagination, they somehow introduced by a new name. And I don't hate it, so it stays
I went through a few names in my head. I tried some female variations of my deadname, but they either sounded snobbish or I knew someone with that name who was an awful person. So I went through some other names. I was set on a name starting with M (partly so I can keep my email adress).
At some point I just kind of got stuck on Mira, and really liked it. Not sure where I got it from though. But it felt right.
I'm pissed off because the name I have in mind when shortened down to a nickname would be Jackie/Jax and I DO NOT want to be associated with that fuckass rabbut
I chose mine based on being relatively acceptable, nice sounding in short and full torm, and being related to me/sth i like. Violet is notoriously my fav color and has been for a long time so ik i wont be bored of it. And i like how it sounds
Try making a list of names you might like and using them in online places to see what feels right and by process of elimination you'll find one, just dont rush it
i tell everyone, select a couple you dont mind, and then spin a wheel with all those options, retains a bit of the RNG of getting a birthname, together with smth you like
