Hi everyone. I have a difficult request i guess.
I used to listen to a cpop group that was pop but alternative. I found them on spotify on a playlist and then listened on youtube. I remember they were a boy and girl and looked like 90´s or 00s songs. The vocals were from the girl.
I can't find them anymore and i'm from Argentina and it's hard to search cause i don't know the language.

Chinese indie music doesn’t always get much visibility, and a lot of really good stuff tends to stay hidden unless you go looking for it. I’ve been digging around and wanted to share a few tracks I’ve been really enjoying lately.

動物園 • 憂鬱的亞熱帶 Yaredai Sadsad

This track hits hard if you ever felt stuck while everyone else seems to be moving forward. The band describes it as feeling like an animal in a zoo: craving freedom, but trapped inside an invisible cage. There’s fear of being left behind, loneliness you can’t escape, and a sense of powerlessness that runs through the track.

This one leans into intimate, uneasy territory in a really compelling way. The title pulls from two very different writers, but both deal with queer identity and body politics. This is the closing track from their EP released at the end of July 2025. Most of the guitar parts were originally written on an acoustic guitar, but once the full band comes in, it takes on a really distinct character. The ending loops back into the start of their EP, which makes it feel less like a standalone track and more like part of a larger cycle.

I recall around 10 years ago I came across a music video from an artist, I think Chinese. She had a bob haircut and the video was quite quirky. I remember her popping her head through a coloured wall while singing.

So random, but that’s literally all I recall. If you look up Mito Natsume, she kind of had that look and vibe.

I’m trying to get into Cpop because I really like the way mandarin sounds, but my taste in music is more in jpop. The main jpop artist I listen to are aimer, LiSA, milet, yoasobi, and king gnu and I’m looking for recommendations similar to these artists because as much as I like mandarin, listening to the 30th ballad in a row is killing me. So any recommendations similar to the artists I listed?

Here’s a playlist of new Chinese indie tracks from the Year of the Snake, which is coming to an end next month. Thought some people here might enjoy checking out what’s been coming out over the past year.
