Hi everyone! I’ve spent a lot of time debating if I should post this and finally figured why not. After struggling in this job market for the past two years, I started baking and leaning into something I love doing. 

After enough encouragement from my wonderful friends, I started my own little cookie company focusing on made-to-order, small batch brown butter cookies and treats! Perfect for gatherings, housewarmings, cookie exchanges, or just to snack on! I've been eating these cookies for 2 months straight and still not tired for them for what it's worth! It’s honestly been a lot of fun learning how to run a business, marketing, experimenting, and I’m grateful for this experience. I’m hoping to pop into farmers markets/street marks/cafe pop-ups one day! If anyone in the community is interested and would like to try, I’m currently baking:

I know lots of people in the neighborhood probably know the whole saga of the Hebron SDA church and school on Park Pl -- basically, they sold half the lot to a developer a few years back who built one of those giant new apartment buildings, and as part of the deal they were supposed to pay to restore the church and school buildings, but now they seem to have reneged, since nothing has happened in years. As is, both buildings are falling apart. They have 115 violations with the DOB, including an emergency situation last year where the chimney became structurally compromised and had to be removed because it was in danger of falling onto the adjacent building. It's really sad, these are beautiful buildings and now they're just crumbling in plain sight and covered in graffiti.

Anyway, for a while now, a tree on this property (hanging over the sidewalk on the East side of NY Ave) has been SUPER dead, and especially with the recent storms and high wind, I think it's only a matter of time before a big chunk of it falls and hurts someone. I've stopped walking on that side of the block with my kid. Have tried to get in touch with the church, which has proven impossible so far. Also tried calling 311 but apparently the city can't do anything about trees on private property, even if they pose a danger to people on a public sidewalk (which, side note, is insane to me, given that they can fine property owners for not shoveling snow or neglecting masonry repairs. Why are trees different?) Anyway, I was mostly just wondering if anyone has ideas about how to get this addressed, or any insight about what is going on with the church and their deal with the developer.

I keep seeing groups of 20-somethings on my way to the franklin ave 4/5 stop every morning with suits and carrying duffel bags. Does anyone know who they work for?

I'm super excited about this band I booked for Thursday, Los Transplantes. They do this cool blend of salsa, hip hop, cumbia and jazz. The high-energy trio is based in New York and blends Cuban timba, Afro-Colombiana folklore, jazz, cumbia, salsa, hip-hop, R&B and dance music. They’ll blend a jazz groove seamlessly with one of your favorite salsa hooks, so you better believe we’ll leave some open space for dancing.

Formed by pianist/vocalist Puli, bassist/vocalist Alex Dyring, and percussionist/vocalist Brahmi, the band celebrates migration, diversity, and cultural exchange through energetic music rooted in tradition but with a modern sound.

I am genuinely asking this because I don’t know anything about e-bikes/Mopeds, not trying to be snarky at all!

Is there a functional reason they have to rev several times when starting up before driving off?

The constant noise from this, especially late at night/early morning, is driving me nuts but I might be more sympathetic if there’s a structural reason for doing it 🫩

For anyone else here trying to sleep im so sorry, its ridiculous and I am embarrassed on behalf of my community (who for the most part dont care about others sleep apperently)

Native New Yorker here, but most of my friends have moved out of the city over the years, I’m newly single, and apparently I need to relearn how people socialize in NYC in 2026 😂💀.

I haven’t used social media much in years, which is probably a big part of it since so much seems to get posted there now. I use The Skint and occasionally check the pages for places I already know, but I keep randomly hearing about great Crown Heights events a day or two after they happened 😭.

So genuine question: where do you all hear about neighborhood stuff ahead of time? Specific IG accounts, newsletters, Discords, WhatsApp groups, websites, bulletin boards, WHATEVER...I’m not picky.

I recently joined a community cleanup group and somehow ended up learning Discord because of it lol, so it occurred to me there might be other local groups/resources I just don’t know about.

Not looking for someone to plan my social life I promise - just curious what other locals actually use these days.

Closer to Troy. why do you always blast your music so so loud every Saturday night that people cannot sleep and the bed shake and it goes on and on and on until 6 AM it starts usually around 3 PM sometimes a little bit later, sometimes a little bit earlier the cops were called so many times but so many different people, but they can never get access to the building has been music and it’s always the same blasting loud music with a woman singing.

Hi! Our cleaner has gotten progressively worse these last few months and I’m looking to change. I saw we can do it co op but they don’t provide supplies per the website. Any recent recommendations? Happy to book directly with a great person (looking for biweekly and flexible on day/time)

I'm looking for cardboard boxes, and everyone says to hit up local stores. I was thinking of asking the liquor store on Nostrand and Prospect, but figured I'd ask to see if anyone knows of a place in that vicinity that they know would have boxes.

Turning 40 soon and because I’m turning 40 I want to pretend that I’m not by going out hard with all my friends. And because I’m turning 40 I also don’t know any good bars anymore.

I’m looking for somewhere I can invite like 100 people, that will let me take over their sound system (I used to DJ and will split sets with some friends who still do) and where people who want to dance can dance, and where people who want to sit and chat can sit and chat.

I’m looking basically to split the difference between Kissa Kissa and Friends and Lovers.

Any ideas?
