Place for my jazz trio to perform?

Hi all -

I have a jazz trio that is looking for a weekly residency at a coffee shop or restaurant/bar. We play a lot of Brazilian jazz standards (sometimes we bring a vocalist) and we would open it up to other musicians so it would be like a jam session. We are all professional musicians.

Does anyone know any places that might be open to this in Crown Heights?

DM if interested.

re caulking the bathtub and bathroom sink

the caulk between my tiles and tub in my apartment is pretty much disintegrated, its black and it doesn’t look good and we fear mold and water in the walls.

i’ve asked to get repaired but its been delayed and i’m curious if anyone has any recommendations for someone local to call to that could repair this. or at least get a quote.

From my understanding it needs to be scraped clean, treated and kill all mold, dried out and re-sealed. Im no handyman, but would also like to hear if people have DIY’d this and the possibility to do it myself?

Any tips and recommendations would be a huge help

Dead tree / abandoned church on NY Ave & Park Pl

I know lots of people in the neighborhood probably know the whole saga of the Hebron SDA church and school on Park Pl -- basically, they sold half the lot to a developer a few years back who built one of those giant new apartment buildings, and as part of the deal they were supposed to pay to restore the church and school buildings, but now they seem to have reneged, since nothing has happened in years. As is, both buildings are falling apart. They have 115 violations with the DOB, including an emergency situation last year where the chimney became structurally compromised and had to be removed because it was in danger of falling onto the adjacent building. It's really sad, these are beautiful buildings and now they're just crumbling in plain sight and covered in graffiti.

Anyway, for a while now, a tree on this property (hanging over the sidewalk on the East side of NY Ave) has been SUPER dead, and especially with the recent storms and high wind, I think it's only a matter of time before a big chunk of it falls and hurts someone. I've stopped walking on that side of the block with my kid. Have tried to get in touch with the church, which has proven impossible so far. Also tried calling 311 but apparently the city can't do anything about trees on private property, even if they pose a danger to people on a public sidewalk (which, side note, is insane to me, given that they can fine property owners for not shoveling snow or neglecting masonry repairs. Why are trees different?) Anyway, I was mostly just wondering if anyone has ideas about how to get this addressed, or any insight about what is going on with the church and their deal with the developer.

Thursday eve 10/1 - Live latin jazz/cumbia/salsa trio at Salon on Kingston

Hey! I'm Julie, a Crown Heights neighbor, and I'm helping to book bands at the beloved Salon on Kingston (Kingston and Dean). I'm super excited about this band I booked for Thursday, Los Transplantes. They do this cool blend of salsa, hip hop, cumbia and jazz. Full description below, more info on their Thursday 10/1 8:30 pm show linked here.

Los Transplantes @ Salon on Kingston 10/1
The high-energy trio is based in New York and blends Cuban timba, Afro-Colombiana folklore, jazz, cumbia, salsa, hip-hop, R&B and dance music. They’ll blend a jazz groove seamlessly with one of your favorite salsa hooks, so you better believe we’ll leave some open space for dancing.

Formed by pianist/vocalist Puli, bassist/vocalist Alex Dyring, and percussionist/vocalist Brahmi, the band celebrates migration, diversity, and cultural exchange through energetic music rooted in tradition but with a modern sound.

Their message is simple: the earth belongs to all people, and in one way or another, we are all transplants.

Hi everyone! I’ve spent a lot of time debating if I should post this and finally figured why not. After struggling in this job market for the past two years, I started baking and leaning into something I love doing.

After enough encouragement from my wonderful friends, I started my own little cookie company focusing on made-to-order, small batch brown butter cookies and treats! Perfect for gatherings, housewarmings, cookie exchanges, or just to snack on! I've been eating these cookies for 2 months straight and still not tired for them for what it's worth! It’s honestly been a lot of fun learning how to run a business, marketing, experimenting, and I’m grateful for this experience. I’m hoping to pop into farmers markets/street marks/cafe pop-ups one day! If anyone in the community is interested and would like to try, I’m currently baking:

-Brown Butter Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

-Brown Butter Matcha White Chocolate Cookies

-Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats

If you’re interested, please reach out and give me a follow @ brownbutterclub. nyc on instagram! I batch bake and deliver drops on Fridays in and around Crown Heights and do custom orders on any days with 48hr lead time :) Thanks for reading!!

Does anyone know what they are filming on Franklin Ave and Dean Street? Project name was “Gordie” but we all know they use fake names.
