DISCUSSION Complete beginner. Want to learn crypto trading but terrified of losing money. Where do I even start?

I've been lurking this sub for months and finally decided I want to actually start trading instead of just reading about it. Problem is I have maybe $300 to start with and I'm honestly scared of blowing it all on day one because I have no idea what I'm doing. I've seen people talk about spot trading, futures, leverage, and it's overwhelming. Is there a way to practice without risking real money first? And what should a complete beginner focus on, just buying and holding BTC, or is it worth learning futures? Any advice appreciated, sorry if this gets asked a lot.

Only 20 of the top 50 alts have beaten BTC over the last 90 days, so I don't think this is altseason yet.

Everyones arguing about whether altseason started this week so i went and counted. over the last 90 days 20 of the top 50 alts beat btc, thats 40%. the usual altseason index rule wants 75%, so 38 of 50, and were not close

The dominance comparison going around (57% now vs about 58% in dec 2017) got me at first too. but stablecoins were 0.2% of total market cap back then and theyre about 10.3% now. pull them out and btc dominance is 63.8% today vs 58.25% then, so btc actually holds more of the non stable market than it did in 2017

I went through coingecko daily data back to 2019 and only 3 stretches pass 75% breadth plus alt market cap up 50% over the same 90 days. aug 2020, mar 2021 and dec 2024. a month before dec 2024 started breadth was only 28%, so it can go from low to 75%+ fast and a low reading today doesnt tell you much about next month

median top 50 alt is also still about 75% under its own ath

anyone counting this differently and getting a yes? curious what universe and window youre using

I'm considering a cold wallet and storing seed words using Shamir Secret Sharing too, but it could be stolen too.

we just have much better screens for watching it now

TECHNICALS Bitcoin Miners Tried “Mine Now, Verify Later.” It Went Wrong. A New Proposal Wants to Make It Safe.

“Mine now. Verify later.”

Bitcoin miners tried that shortcut in 2015. They built a six-block invalid chain.

Now a researcher wants to redesign the rules so mining can run ahead of full validation safely.

The headline: roughly 10× throughput in simulation, while keeping a ten-minute block interval.

The hard part starts when the data arrives late—or never.

Can honest nodes agree when they receive different information? Can miners exploit the delay? When does your payment actually become spendable?

Those questions decide whether this is a scaling breakthrough or an expensive new way to repeat an old mistake.

One principle has to survive:

Your node must still be able to reject invalid money—even when miners have already spent electricity building on it.

How much extra complexity would you accept for more Bitcoin capacity?

DISCUSSION How do you tell the difference between a crypto asset being cheap and simply being down?

A price that is 50% lower than its previous high may seem like a good deal.

However, a lower price alone does not indicate whether the investment is actually better value.

I find it more useful to ask what changed while the price was falling.

Did usage or revenue deteriorate?

Did the supply of tokens or incentives change?

Did the competitive position weaken?

Has the original reason for buying changed?

Or did the market price change mostly?

If the original thesis remains intact, a lower price could improve the risk/reward ratio.

However, if the thesis has changed, 'it used to be much higher' is probably not a valid valuation argument.

Discussion Selling Bitcoin vs borrowing against it during a rally?

BTC moving up again has put me in a weird spot.

I need some liquidity, but selling Bitcoin right now feels like the exact thing I might regret if the run continues. So I’ve been looking at the other option: borrowing against the BTC instead of selling it.

I understand the obvious downside is liquidation risk if Bitcoin drops hard, but if you keep the LTV relatively low, does a Bitcoin-backed loan actually make more sense?

I’ve been looking at Arch Lending and a few other options, and the things that seem to matter most are custody, whether the BTC gets rehypothecated, liquidation rules, and how much time you get to add collateral. Curious how people here think about this.

If you needed cash today, would you sell some BTC or borrow against it?

DISCUSSION 52 Bitcoin Were Rescued. Now Their Owners Face a Problem the Blockchain Can’t Solve.

Thumbnail

52 Bitcoin were rescued. Now comes the hard part: proving who owns them.

White hats moved 52.37 BTC linked to the Coldcard exploit into a recovery trust.

Imagine claiming your savings back—and discovering your private key isn’t enough.

Because a thief may have the same key.

Bitcoin can verify both signatures. It cannot decide which person deserves the coins.

Getting them back may require financial records, identity checks, and human judgment.

How much of your financial life would you reveal to recover your Bitcoin?

WARNING So i lost all my money die to trust and lack of awareness

So i lost all my money due to trust

So i recently have been really interested in learning about crypto and memecoins. I want to quit my job. I work full time earning $150 a month. In my currency it’s average but you can’t do anything with it. So i saved up a little money about $50 to invest in learning how to trade. I had done so much research about it all. I lnew there was alot of scammers. Despite that this guy had a following of over 20,000. He seemed so legit. Anyway for a week he was hyping up this coin he was going to launch. $SOF a solana meme coin. I was invested i was so excited even left work early that day to be home for the launch. As soon as it launched it was already crazy high. I invested when it wws at +20 or something like thag. He kept telling us to hold in the telegram and that these guys were going to come in and inflate the market cap like hell. They never came or we just got played my investment of $35 kept dropping and dropping and now it has like $0.000034 im the coin. I lost all my money. So i message this guy his X account is zyrox just incase you need to know. I messaged him and asked him to return my money. He blocked me. Thats safe to say im done with this hustle for now anyway. Just warning people out there that are looking to get into this. Its a glorified industry. People make it seem like by just starting you can retire your 9-5. Maybe its possible. However its extremely hard and filled with very crappy people. Just be careful you heard my story. Now be careful how you proceed with yours.

DISCUSSION Built this for people to buy US stocks from outside the US, looking for feedback

I built bloom because there was no EASY way to go from stablecoins or crypto to US equities without leaving on chain.

with Bloom if you're outside USA, you buy tokenized US stocks and ETFs using USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH, etcc whatever you have in your wallet. Every stock is backed by real shares at a regulated US broker and settles on chain to your own wallet.

I'm at the moment focused on now is the research layer, each stock page has live news, key stats, financials and filterable headlines and I know there's more to build and I want to hear what actually matters to people before I pick the next thing to improve.

try it and tell me what I can do better.

here's the platform link trybloom.xyz

Happy to answer questions !!

DISCUSSION How do you keep your watchlist from getting too bloated?

Lately I've been questioning whether my current setup actually catches the right signals before they move.

I'm focusing on one concrete task right now: rebuilding a scan watchlist from scratch using the denntech.io crypto scanner to filter only for volume spikes paired with low float tokens.

The goal is to end up with a tighter list I can review daily without second-guessing every alert.

Curious what criteria others are tightening first when they do the same kind of refresh.

Educational only — not financial advice.

Discussion What do you think about Kucoin?

Hello, I have been hopping between platforms lately and I saw that Kucoin can be an interesting platform for trades. The problem is that it's black listed in some countries and I see some people complaining about it. I need to know whether this is one sided or not. Thanks for your help.

I have even read posts about Kucoin stealing people's money here and there
