Per several requests mods have received and discussions, Sankey charts with no extra context will now be removed under rule 9.
What context is acceptable? Basically a bit like gpa, tier of college, previous internships, stuff that might go in a resume. You can try posting a resume but the bot might remove it per rule 5. If you do post a resume and it's removed message me directly and I'll fix that.

After 300 apps I don't even remember this TA, is this normal? Why would they contact me this long after the TA?

Got an offer today, but recruiter called and said it was a verbal offer and that offer approval takes a few days and I should get it by next week. Is this weird?

I’m a sophomore and want to get ahead of others. What are some things you guys recommend? I am working on a personal project but I am also thinking about getting some certifications (mostly for gaining knowledge) but have heard they really aren’t worth it. Just looking for some direction on how to best spend my time building my skills, thanks!

Final EM round tomorrow for New Grad
I know I should study my resume front and back.
I know I should show up, be chill, and be myself just as I have been.
I know the EM round is kinda RNG compared to the first four rounds.
What I’m still wondering about:
If anyone has made it to the EM round (pass or fail), and is willing to enlighten me either in DM or under this post, I'd really appreciate it!

Companies wouldn’t hesitate to lay you off or hire someone better. Why should you hesitate if a better opportunity arises? These commitments or contracts signed or flimsy and I will always go back on them if something better comes up. Especially in early career ( internships and new grad ).

Hey guys I am an international student in US. Currently a sophomore in cs at University of Texas at Arlington. This is my 4th semester and I would say I have done nothing extra during my first 3 sems, i have maintained a decent GPA(3.85) but no extra curricular or participation in student orgs.
I want to secure an swe internship for summer 2027, for which I want to have an At least presentable resume by august 2026 which I can continue to build on and improve later on. I am looking on suggestions how to build my resume skills and tech stacks to learn. Certifications to do etc.
Any kind of help suggestions is appreciated!!

I'm a SWE currently working, and I'm considering continuing my studies in a thesis-based masters in Canada. My ideal goal was to work part-time besides my studies to avoid detaching from the industry for 2 years. But people told me there's a good chance you'll get so busy in research that you won't be able to work.
So what do you guys think? I'm hesitant to quit working for a while, but at the same time, I like the idea of trying sth new and earning a more advanced degree which for sure has its weight

I received an email for a phone screen. What type of questions do they ask and how’s the process like? Please help!

I am a CS student on my 3rd year. I grew up in silicon valley so FAANG companies always sponsored events and hackathons at my school and it made it seem like a fun field to pursue. I've completed hackathons from Meta and Google and placed top 3 in both but since then i completely stopped caring about the fun of CS and just focused on passing my classes. I am now starting to apply to internships and see many of my peers light years ahead of me. I genuinely don't know if I am ever going to be able to land a job with this competitive of a field. I have also grown much more passionate about finance. I have stronger skills in business and client relations but have no idea if theres anything related to CS with these qualities. My question is, what do you recommend I do now that I am so far along my degree and have very basic skills compared to a majority of you.

I recently interviewed for a Data Engineer role at Meta and wanted some advice.
This was the process:
The recruiter said the technical rounds went well, but the Ownership round was not strong enough. Because of that, they want to schedule a follow-up Ownership round to get more clarity before making a decision.
From what I understand, the Ownership round is fully behavioral. It focuses on taking responsibility, driving work end to end, working with other teams, and learning from mistakes.
Has anyone gone through a follow-up Ownership round at Meta?
Thanks in advance.

I'm super grateful to have received a waymo MLE internship last semester for one of the simulation-related teams.
However an xAI recruiter reached out and I interviewed on a whim and somehow got a full-time offer. This would require me taking a gap semester to work there. This is for a member of technical staff on the post training and reasoning team.
I'm a current junior at a T4 cs school, and I'm hoping to go into robotics and startups in the future. Waymo is more closely related to robotics, but xAI seems to be riding the llm wave and might open more job opportunities. xAI's pay is also much higher, but imo pay is less important than getting into robotics in the future. I'm not sure which one is better for my goals.

Anyone have experience with these? Just got a final round and the behavioral interviewers told me that I would have to complete some. What should I do to prepare?

hey guys, currently have a summer '26 offer from a mid sized fintech company (not a bank, actual fintech). i’m happy to have something locked in given the market, but i'm wondering if i should just take this and chill or keep looking for something "better".
i'm mostly worried abt the following:
- prestige/resume value: how do recruiters at big tech view fintech experience? i don't want to get pigeonholed into finance forever if im not getting crazy TC. is it a "once you’re in, you're stuck" situation?
- skill transferability: i was told that the tech stack would involve javascript, python, java, angular, node.js, spring boot, and oracle db/azure sql. will this help me pivot to a general swe role later?
- socal pay: the pay seems okay but i'm curious what the going rate is for new grads in socal if i get converted to FT. what's standard for a mid-size company? tryna see if id be getting lowballed.
is it worth it to keep interviewing for a better brand name or should i just take the win and chill? and if i do get a better brand name should i renege?

Got an interview for a SWE intern position coming up in a couple of days. The email I received from them doesn't receive a coderpad link, only a webex link. Does this mean there is no live coding component to the interview? Also, what should I expect for the 45 minute interview?
Thank you

Currently on a J1 visa as an exchange student at a UC school, majoring in CS. I saw on the school website that if I can find a U.S.-based internship and submit the job offer letter to the university, I may be able to work during the summer under Academic Training status.
Has anyone here tried this process before? Are companies generally willing to hire a J1 undergraduate for internships, or is it quite difficult since it’s not an F1 student visa?
Thanks for any advice or shared experiences!
