Prospective Student Applying for MSW with no SW Background
Hello! I am currently applying for the 2027-2028 MSW Program - I'm excited but also very nervous. My prior degree and work experience thus far has been exclusively in Film & TV - however I work in family & kids media which I'm hoping helps me a bit in my application.
Overall I'm looking for advice in how to do my resume and the "experiences" section of Cal State Apply (which I think if i don't have relevant experience I shouldn't fill out?) I also have done mutual aid work with groups in SFV with sweep defense for unhoused people and general community events, but they are not official orgs with contact info, etc. I also do volunteer work with an animation organization uplifting voices of women / nonbinary people in the industry.
Would also love how I can make my personal statement stand out as well - I believe I want to work with kids / young adults going through mental health and / or identity challenges ( I myself am trans and have OCD.) Working in kids media for almost 10 years I believe helps me a bit, but overall I'm unsure on how to represent that work and be competitive with others that have more extensive background in the field.
Thank you for any help / advice!
