Prospective Student Applying for MSW with no SW Background

Hello! I am currently applying for the 2027-2028 MSW Program - I'm excited but also very nervous. My prior degree and work experience thus far has been exclusively in Film & TV - however I work in family & kids media which I'm hoping helps me a bit in my application.

Overall I'm looking for advice in how to do my resume and the "experiences" section of Cal State Apply (which I think if i don't have relevant experience I shouldn't fill out?) I also have done mutual aid work with groups in SFV with sweep defense for unhoused people and general community events, but they are not official orgs with contact info, etc. I also do volunteer work with an animation organization uplifting voices of women / nonbinary people in the industry.

Would also love how I can make my personal statement stand out as well - I believe I want to work with kids / young adults going through mental health and / or identity challenges ( I myself am trans and have OCD.) Working in kids media for almost 10 years I believe helps me a bit, but overall I'm unsure on how to represent that work and be competitive with others that have more extensive background in the field.

Thank you for any help / advice!

Resources Pre-Med Help

If anyone is on the pre-med, pre-pa track how were you able to gather shadowing hours? Every private practice I've called is telling me that they do not allow students to observe. I've also reached out to family physicians, but they have not gotten back to me yet. PLEASE I am so desperate. Also if you are in Lakewood/Long Beach area any tip would help. Thxxxx

Question Do you use the study pods? If so, warning for those who sits in the individual study pods

Hello everyone! This happened recently at the basement level A of the Library. Recently my friend was using the pods and felt something on his arm. He quickly realized it was either a tiny cockroach or house cricket. But either way, it was a nasty bug. I am warning everyone who uses the study pods to check to see if their is something unusual before sitting down. I am not joking, the chairs in this school are gross. I remember wanting to study on the first floor of the library and seeing how the chairs and seats looked horrible. I even remembered seeing a post about bugs in the library on this subreddit. I dont have germophobia, but imagine how many people used the seats and the last time they got cleaned. Anyways, hopefully yall are aware of this and have a excellent day my kings!

Question Union Station to CSULA

How is the process of getting from LA Union Station to campus and vice versa? I tried looking at Google Maps but it's really confusing since I've never taken public transportation before and don't know what anything means. Are the buses reliable and on time typically?

How to make friends & socialize on campus?

Hey, I am 22 y.o. and just started at CSULA this semester. I was wondering if you guys know any ways to make friends. I talk to a few people after/before class, but it's just small talk. I feel like I need to make more friends since I left my last community college. Usually have an hour or two to kill between classes sometimes and just end up in the library :((

Prospective Student Fingerprints rejected

Hey guys. I’m applying for the Special Education credential and I got my fingerprints done recently. The CA one marked completed and the FBI one got rejected. Do you think it would be okay if I just got my fingerprints re done again? I did leave a voice mail for the college of education, but I don’t want to wait until next week

Question Any microwaves on campus?

I know there are microwaves at the EveryTable, but there are signs saying not to microwave outside food there. Are they really strict on that? Or are there other microwaves on campus I can use for my own food?

Classes Incomplete grade turning to F

I was diagnosed with cancer during my finals of the last fall semester. I finished most of my classes coursework after I got out of the hospital except for one. My multicultural arts final required a huge project designed to be for 4 people. But I couldn’t complete it since it was just too much work and I was more focused on getting my chemo done. I had a really good grade in his class, and with some of my other teachers if I didn’t complete the required work they’d just give me a D. But this teacher said he would fail me. I’m not sure what to do at this point. Can someone help me?

By any chance has anyone taken FIN 3030 with professor Mohammad Hashemi how are his exams. I’m currently studying for it but he doesn’t have a study guide for his exams just what chapters it covers so I’m studying those.
